[player_tooltip player_id='1988407' first='Elliot' last='Blankespoor'] has earned himself a spot on this list with his size and dominance of 2A defensive linemen in the western part of the state. Already standing at 6-foot-4 and 280 pounds, Blankespoor is a monstrous second-year OT that deserves interest for his size alone.

Blankespoor has a long way to go technically speaking, but his length allows him to create separation between he and the defender, he can use his overwhelming size to take DEs out in the run game, and his pass-blocking is coming along.

One of the top playmakers in the state in all three phases of the game, Lewis Central's [player_tooltip player_id='1583687' first='Braydan' last='Doss'] put together 2,013 all-purpose yards during his sophomore campaign, ranking 15th in all classes and first among 2028s. He did that despite playing in just ten games in 2025.

With elite foot speed, vision, balance and agility to make plays between the tackles and in space, Doss is an every down back that is capable of making a game-breaking play every time he touches the rock.

Taking 172 carries for 1,518 yards and 18 scores, and returning 15 kicks for 489 yards and three touchdowns, Doss is playmaking personified for one of the most successful programs in the state in recent memory, Lewis Central.

A specimen of an athlete, [player_tooltip player_id='1605331' first='Gabriel' last='Hegelheimer'] didn't get much shine this fall for Regina Catholic in Iowa City. Sitting behind a Power 4 prospect in [player_tooltip player_id='1197445' first='Savion' last='Miller'], Hegelheimer played second fiddle in the run game, but still put up some damn good numbers in the process. Taking 25 carries for 294 yards (11.8 yards per carry) and six scores, Hegelheimer wasn't fully unleashed, and he still put up excellent numbers in a small sample size.

A body type that could play running back or linebacker at the next level, Hegelheimer possesses the burst, physical running style and quickness in between the tackles to be an impactful every down back or a hard hitting linebacker, whichever path he chooses to take.

Either way, he's set for a breakout junior campaign, and he will greatly benefit from the camp circuit this summer.

The second of two sensational sophomore starting offensive linemen for the 5A state champions, [player_tooltip player_id='1286887' first='Evan' last='Mitchell'] looks to be another Power 4 caliber offensive lineman for the Maroons. A player we recently got eyes on at Strength U, Mitchell has the makings of being a mean guard or tackle at the next level as he continues to grow.

A foot-driving OL that plays with a mean streak and isn't afraid to take his assigned down man to the ground or to the sideline and completely out of the play. Mitchell possesses a high motor and is an OL any team in Iowa would be more than lucky to have -- he just happens to play for one of the most storied programs in the state's history.

The top quarterback in the 2028 rankings to this point, [player_tooltip player_id='1671366' first='Mack' last='Murdock'] is easily the main quarterback prospect to watch going forward in his class, doubling as a stud defensive back, too.

With a frame that stands out on the football field -- especially against 2A competition -- Murdock is more than just a physical specimen. As one can see in the first clip on his highlight tape from this fall, Murdock can launch the rock. He shows the ability to navigate the pocket, step up and put a ball 45 yards down field on the money multiple times in his film. He can layer the ball around and through multiple defenders to his receivers, he can throw a fade ball to the back shoulder, he can take off and run, and he has two more years of high school ball to grow and develop. As a sophomore, he completed 131-of-198 passes (66.2%) for 2,250 yards, 27 touchdowns and just five picks. He also took 64 carries for 200 yards and four scores.

At the moment, Murdock appears to be a Group of 5 or FCS quarterback, but either way, somebody in the Midwest will be thrilled they took a shot on the smalltown QB that has his team as a way-too-early 2A title contender for 2026.

Five prospects on the offensive side of the ball in the class of 2028 that are worthy of more Division I attention -- and potentially an offer, sooner rather than later.
