Between established stars and names you yet know, the late afternoon session of the Carolinas Coaches Combines at Spartanburg on April 26 isn't going to be a waste of anyone's time.

In fact, it's quite the opposite.

The rising sophomores in attendance will begin taking their place among the very best athletes in the state, freshmen no longer as the sands of time usher them into their second run. Many of the players who were invited to participate are seasoned despite their lack of age.

Indeed, one portion of Spartanburg will have an eye toward a very bright future.

[player_tooltip player_id='1595010' first='Taddrick' last='Gibson'] DB, Dutch Fork

We've looked and looked and looked. Simply, there isn't a glaring weakness in Gibson's game. Nothing that leaves opponents thinking the youngest member of the defensive starters could be attacked. Nothing that allows players to take advantage of his mistakes. Nada. Gibson is an elite talent doing elite things. And he'll be a leader in the clubhouse to do it in Spartanburg, too.

[player_tooltip player_id='2106784' first='Xavier' last='Sammet'] QB, Greer

Sammet is only one-half of the Greer quarterback duo expected to lead this offense for the next couple seasons. But he's earned every bit of his playing time and is showing increased promise after notching double digit touchdown figures passing and rushing as a rookie. He clearly needs to put on some size, but that should come.

[player_tooltip player_id='1301740' first='Ra'Sean' last='Brown'] RB, South Pointe

The Stallions' freshman's got next. After backing up his big brother last fall during South Pointe's title run, Brown is now the featured back not only in a system that is losing an all-everything quarterback, but also one that returns a dynamic offensive line. Brown has a gear most tailbacks don't, and he's about to start showing everyone who missed it the first time around.

[player_tooltip player_id='1522453' first='Kaylin' last='Culp'] DB, Fairfield Central (pictured)

Even with some missing games, Culp was one of the most productive freshmen in the state last fall, putting up 53 tackles and four interceptions. Tack on a long kickoff return for a touchdown and the potential to chime in on the offensive side and the ball, and it certainly appears as if we've only seen the start of a brilliant career.

[player_tooltip player_id='1818034' first='Gavin' last='Pyles'] DL, Fountain Inn

The Fury defensive end didn't just stagger his way onto the field and take up space. He crafted a freshman season worthy of all-region honors and an explosive capability that will only get better and better. His best trait is knowing when to use speed versus when to counter with pure power. Lining him up in a non-padded event feels like a person cheat code.

[player_tooltip player_id='1606964' first='Greg' last='Rushing'] RB/LB, Chesterfield

Rushing is a fun football watch. Last fall, he ran for 720 yards and eight touchdowns, added another 18 receptions for 164 yards and two scores, put up 17 tackles in essential four games on defense and even took over kickoff return duties for one contest. He's got a frame that could add on quickly, and his first combine appearance should be a doozy.

[player_tooltip player_id='1818345' first='Jordan' last='Lewis'] OL, Dorman

Not only is Lewis among the biggest players in all of the Class of 2029, he's also one of the most effective. Lewis didn't need long to crack the varsity lineup, and not long after that he was named a starter. Doing that in the trenches at the Class 5A level is no joke. Lewis has a ways to go, but his base line is a thing of beauty for anyone who likes physical young blockers.

[player_tooltip player_id='1301735' first='Dash' last='Holley'] LB/DL, Northwestern

Holley wasn't quite thrown into the fire quite like Gibson was at Dutch Fork, but the Northwestern youngster clearly gained some early favor in terms of playing time. Holley made the transition from middle school to high school at the same time he was adjusting from an edge lineman to linebacker. He did both quite well, and he's in prime position to do well for some time.
