As we head into the month of March, the 2026 high school football offseason is in full swing. With that being said, we have begun a new round of rankings updates in the state of Kentucky. The class of 2027 is our latest update to be released with an updated Top 225. Now that those have been released, I will be taking the next week to break them down by position. After already covering the quarterbacks, here are our top running backs in the class of 2027 in the state of Kentucky.

[player_tooltip player_id='1284247' first='Dakari' last='Talbert'] has continued to prove that he is worthy of being ranked as our top running back in the state in his class over the past couple seasons. As a junior, he led the Broncos in rushing with 205 carries for 1,423 yards and 19 touchdowns in 13 games. Talbert has explosive speed which he uses to burst through the running lane with a sense of urgency then run away from the defense on long runs. When defenders are able to catch up to him, he has shown the strength and contact balance to break tackles with ease. Talbert also finished his junior year with 14 receptions for 153 yards and two touchdowns. Dakari currently holds several Division I offers and I expect them to continue to pile up for him moving forward.

[player_tooltip player_id='500831' first='Darrian' last='Tomlin'] is coming off a very impressive junior year in which he led his team in rushing with 199 carries for 1,550 yards and 19 touchdowns in 14 games. Tomlin does a great job of letting his blocks set up then using his vision to find the open running lane effectively. Once the running lane opens, he hits it without any hesitation and then uses his speed to run away from the defense once he hits the second level. Darrian also caught 19 passes for 238 yards and two touchdowns as a junior, and recorded 19 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss on defense. Tomlin currently holds multiple Division I offers, including a recent offer from Louisville, and I expect more to come his way going in to his senior year.

[player_tooltip player_id='1610670' first='Josiah' last='England'] has been one of the most impressive running backs in the state in his class over the past couple years. This past season, England carried the ball 54 times for 416 yards and six touchdowns in seven games. Josiah is a shifty ball carrier, showing the ability to make quick cuts to make defenders miss with ease. He also has shown the speed to run away from the defense and contact balance to break tackles in the open field. England also finished this past season with five receptions for 27 yards and returned a kickoff for a touchdown. Josiah currently holds an offer from Eastern Kentucky and I wouldn't be surprised to see more come his way soon as a lot of eyes will be on him heading into his senior season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1200561' first='Jermiah' last='Turner'] saw an increased role in the Frederick Douglass offense as a junior and impressed when his number was called. He finished the year with 85 carries for 468 yards and six touchdowns in 13 games. Jermiah is a physical downhill runner, showing the ability to lower his should and keep his legs churning through contact to break tackles with ease without losing stride. Once he hits the open field, Turner has shown the elusiveness to make defenders miss. Turner currently holds offers from UT-Martin, Eastern Kentucky, and Southern Mississippi, and I can see more coming his way this offseason.

To wrap up our top five running backs in the class of 2027 in the state of Kentucky, I have [player_tooltip player_id='262300' first='Kasen' last='Brock']. Brock had an outstanding junior season, leading Pulaski County in rushing with 242 carries for 1,659 yards and 21 touchdowns in 14 games. He is a very difficult ball carrier to bring down for a single defender as he explodes out of his stance and bursts downhill with a full head of steam and then has shown the ability to lower his shoulder and run straight through defenders without breaking stride. Brock has also shown the second gear of speed to run away from the defense once he hits the open field. He also caught 26 passes for 431 yards and four touchdowns, and returned a kickoff for a touchdown as a junior. Kasen also made an impact on defense this past season, recording 26 tackles, one interception, and returning a fumble recovery for a touchdown. Brock surprisingly doesn't hold any offers yet but he has received a good amount of college interest and I expect a lot of eyes to be on him as he prepares for his senior season.
