As we get deeper into the month of March, the 2026 high school football offseason is in full swing. With that being said, we have begun a new round of rankings updates in the state of Kentucky. The class of 2027 is our latest update to be released with an updated Top 225. Now that those have been released, I have been taking the past week to break them down by position. After already covering the offensive side of the ball, I will now turn my attention to the defensive side of the ball, starting with our top defensive linemen in the class of 2027 in the state of Kentucky.

[player_tooltip player_id='1272160' first='Malachi' last='Brown'] has established himself as one of the best overall prospects in the state of Kentucky. Brown lines up at defensive end where he is dominant against the run. He is a very difficult matchup for opposing offensive linemen as he is able to use his speed and strength to fight through blocks with ease. Once he sheds the block, he has shown the ability to get to the ball carrier in a hurry to make the tackle in the open field. Brown finished this past season with 66 tackles and 11 tackles for loss in 14 games. He is also very effective as a pass rusher, recording eight sacks as a junior. Malachi holds several Power 4 offers and I expect that list to continue to grow this offseason.

[player_tooltip player_id='1610654' first='Zai'Vion' last='Meads'] is a player who has made a name for himself over the past couple seasons. He lines up at defensive tackle where he is very disruptive against the run. Meads is explosive out of his stance and has shown the ability to use his speed to shoot the gaps before opposing offensive linemen have a chance to block him. When linemen are able to get their hands on him, he uses his strength to power straight through them. He is a very reliable tackler once he gets to the ball carrier, finishing his junior year with a team-high 72 tackles and 17 tackles for loss in 14 games. Meads has also shown the ability to get to the quarterback, recording nine sacks this past season. Zai'Vion holds multiple Power 4 offers and I fully expect more to come his way going into his senior year.

[player_tooltip player_id='1375202' first='Josiah' last='McKee'] is another defensive lineman who has continued to impress over the past two years. McKee lines up at defensive end where he is a very impressive pass rusher. He does a great job of using his explosive speed to his advantage to burst off the edge and blow by opposing offensive tackles with ease on his way to the quarterback then finishing once he gets to them. Josiah finished this past season with five sacks and several quarterback pressures in 13 games. He also showed the ability to use his speed to run sideline to sideline to make tackles against the run, finishing his junior year with 51 tackles and 21 tackles for loss. McKee currently holds offers from Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky, and I wouldn't be surprised to see more come his way soon.

[player_tooltip player_id='1665337' first='Juleone' last='Carney'] played a key role in the Trinity defense as a junior. He is a versatile defensive lineman who has proven that he can be effective at both defensive end and tackle. Carney is a skilled pass rusher, showing the speed to blow by opposing offensive linemen along with the strength to bull rush straight through them on his way to the quarterback. He finished his junior season with 11 sacks in 15 games. Against the run, Carney does a great job of shedding blocks quickly then using his high motor to run down the ball carrier to make the tackles against. He recorded 38 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss as a junior. Juleone currently holds offers from Miami (OH), Eastern Kentucky, and Southern Mississippi, and I expect offers to keep piling up for him moving forward.

To wrap up our top five defensive linemen in the class of 2027 in the state of Kentucky, I have [player_tooltip player_id='1278396' first='CJ' last='Hall']. Hall lines up at defensive end where he is very reliable against the run. He is a very difficult player for opposing offensive linemen to block as he has the strength to fight straight through them and bend to go right around them on his way to the ball carrier. Once he gets rid of the block, he uses his speed to get to the ball carrier in a hurry to make the tackle. CJ finished this past season with 47 tackles and 11 tackles for loss in 11 games. Hall also recorded 3.5 sacks as a junior. CJ currently holds offers from Miami (OH), Dartmouth, and Eastern Kentucky, and I can see more coming his way heading into his senior season.
