2027 Film Room Evaluations: Defense

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Film breakdown of some of the under the radar 2027 defensive prospects from around the state.</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">Moody is an attacking and versatile defender that is scheme flexible at 6'0” 200 lbs. Athletic frame with natural movement skills and room to add weight without losing his speed/athleticism. Extremely disruptive at the first level gaining immediate penetration on the snap using plus initial quickness and lateral agility. Aggressive fighting off blocks with good hand usage and placement to maintain separation and easily shed to free himself up. Great burst to close in pursuit, he's smooth changing directions and makes a ton of play at or behind the LOS as a pass rusher and run stopper. Finished the 2025 season with 39 total tackles, 15 tackles for loss, and 6 sacks. Played on the LOS majority of his junior year but could transition to a second level LB at the college level.</p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/aureitmoody/status/1993754562382188846 </div></figure>     <p class="text-gray-700">Gilbert is a pure defensive playmaker for Sahuaro finishing the 2025 season with 114 sacks, 9 tackles for loss, and an interception. 6'0” 180 lbs. he's physical enough to stop the run but skilled and athletic enough to drop into coverage. Always finds himself around the ball with good play diagnosis ability and instincts. Shows good spatial awareness and understanding of route concepts in coverage to step into throwing lanes and play the ball in the air. Knows his assignment and where his threats are to be in the correct position to make a play. Against the run, he can fill a tight gap aggressively but can also play in space and bring heavy contact in one on one open field scenarios. Well rounded skillset with a strong foundation to build on.</p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/JayG30__/status/2007230456350363693 </div></figure>     <p class="text-gray-700">Pavone is a fluid athlete with great game speed to be effective playing any position in the secondary. 5'8” 155 lbs. he would benefit from development in his frame but his savvy athleticism and speed make him a capable playmaker in all three phases. In coverage, he demonstrates natural coverage ability and plus ball skills. He's able to mirror lateral movement and smoothly transition to stay in phase against a wide route tree. Good ability to plant and drive while showing the short area acceleration/burst to close space with the ball in the air. Easily tracks and judges ball flight to be in position to compete at the catch point. Plays through the hands of the receiver to break up passes aggressively. Finished the 2025 season with 70 tackles, 12 PBU, and 3 interceptions.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Strong two-way linemen for ALA-Ironwood. 6'1” 270 lbs. he's a good frame and physical skillset built for the interior DL at the college level. Demonstrates good gap control with the ability to hold ground and eat up space on the inside. Natural strength allows him to overpower opponents at the POA and stack blockers. Plus block shedding ability, he's quick to disengage and locate the ball carrier. As a pass rusher, he's able to create knockback and collapse the pocket forcing QB's off their spot before the play can develop. Aggressive and forceful body tackler that wraps up and drives ball carriers hard into the ground. Wouldn't be surprised to see him recruited on either side of the ball.</p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/WheatonSlade/status/1999679587710828575 </div></figure>     <p class="text-gray-700">Ramos was extremely productive throughout his junior season finishing with 91 total tackles (42 solo), 9 tackles for loss, and 3 sacks. 6'1” 205 lbs. he's got a good frame for the position and has room to add mass. He's a quick hitting LB that is all about speed to the ball, decisiveness, and downhill aggression. High football IQ, he's processes his reads quickly and triggers to the ball without hesitation. Strong instincts and recognition skills to anticipate ball location and be in position to make a play. Easily able to navigate traffic and slip blockers with his movement but also strong enough to take on and shed at the POA. Relentless in pursuit, he's got plus short area acceleration to close space and takes efficient angles to the ball carrier to limit wasted motion. Violent at the contact point, he strikes with power and plays with good controlled aggression.
