I recently took a look at ranking the 2027 athletes by position with the help of some of the other NY scouts. I was particularly impressed with a few different 2027 quarterbacks I've watched that I wanted to spotlight here. They've got an impressive mix of velocity and athleticism that is rare at this age. I've seen some special groups of quarterbacks, and this one stands out, especially in an area of the country not typically known for quarterbacking. They're gonna surprise.

Mercorelli is my favorite NY quarterback I've watched. His velocity is off the charts. Up there with the top prospects in the country-he has the best arm in New York. And he's not a slouch of an athlete either. He can really move around. He takes calculated risks-ones that usually pay off because he can fit the ball in such small spots. He's smart, strong, big frame, athletic. The perfect package for a P4 college looking for a 4 year starter. And he's still got a year to speed up his decision making. When he falls in love with taking layups and mixing in the three pointers-he'll be unstoppable.

Pooty is a freak athlete. Freak. He moves different than normal human beings in the pocket and is creative behind the LOS. He can do whatever he wants back there. He can push the ball downfield, he's a threat with his legs, but he keeps his head up and his first instinct is throw. He throws well on the move and in the pocket, he has calm feet and is sure to get set consistently when not under pressure. My only knock watching his tape is that the ball can tend to float on him downfield. Would love to see him put on a little more muscle and get a little more zip on the ball.

Dedvukaj is a point guard at the helm of the offense. He's a distributor. He's a master at getting his guys the ball in space and letting them work. He's purely the most accurate quarterback I've watched in this class. He's got some creativity and athleticism to him as well. He can put some zip on the ball, he gets the ball out quick, and he knows when to make a play and when to get the ball out. I'd love to see him use his legs in the running game and see him in space a bit more. Love his size as well, he stands super solid in the pocket.

Torres' biggest strength is his ability to throw from different arm angles and different platforms. He's able to get the ball out under pressure thanks to his ability to move his arm angle and avoid the defense. When he moves out of the pocket he's able to make any throw on the field even while avoiding defensive lineman. He's best behind the line of scrimmage. He identifies matchups and attacks downfield consistently. Able to operate the RPO game which is impressive at his age. His size is elite, and the best of any qb on this list. I want to see him attack over the middle of the field well, he attacks outside the numbers so easily which is fantastic, but at his size he's able to see so clearly over the middle I'd love to see him take advantage.

Philbrick's got the best release of all the guys on this list. It's quick, it generates easy velocity, it allows him to throw off platform. He's got easy arm strength. His best trait besides his release is his vision. He's got a knack for keeping his eyes downfield, keeping plays alive, and being able to make things happen when there looks like there's nothing. Even when he's not extending the play, he's able to spot tough, still open, windows downfield at an advanced level for his age. He's got some twitch in open space. Able to work in the RPO game which shows advanced processing ability.
