Top 2028 Linebackers Entering Our Updated Rankings

Kennett checks in as the top linebacker in the class and recently has made the transfer over to Santa Margarita from Servite. He is a very fluid and athletic in the box banger that can move around at the second level and be a pass rusher on the edge as well and makes tons of plays in space and behind the line. He has ideal closing speed and range to make tackles outside the box while able to go sideline to sideline and shows violent hands to get off blocks and dip/bend around blockers and is a high motor guy that can cover downfield as well. A no-brainer national recruit caliber player, he is a big time addition to the Eagles defense and should have a monster junior season.     Weller checks into our rankings as another one of the top linebackers in this class and is a true inside guy that bangs in between the tackles and packs a punch at the point of attack. He is a downhill player that can apply pressure up the middle, is a sure tackler and runs his feet through contact. He shows he is a very high IQ player with well timed pressures, can quickly scrape over the top and get off blocks and is seemingly always around the ball making plays. With still two years left in his prep career, he should draw plenty of Ivy League and FCS interest/offers as he is a very high academic kid that is going to be a nice steal down the line.     Sula is one of the most explosive and twitchy edge rushers across the state regardless of class and is a big time pass rusher in the 2028 class. He has an elite first step, quick hands and shoulder turn at the POA and can win with speed and finesse at the POA and gets underneath bigger tackles. He shows closing speed in the open field, change of direction in the pocket and can make plays with ease in the open field while showing a variety of moves in his toolbox and elite twitch and snap out of his stance. He stil has room to pack on weight but should fit nicely as a outside linebacker in college with some plus cover abiltiies as well.     The Bishop Diego product is one of the more athletic linebackers in this class that can really run and covers a ton of ground in the open field when closing in on ball carriers. He is always around the ball, has a very high football IQ when sniffing screens/draws and has a quick trigger that explodes through contact and packs a punch at the point of attack. He flashes he can knife into the backfield, apply pressure quickly up the middle and takes the short angles into the backfield while not afraid to blow up a second level blocker. He is a no-brainer FCS/FBS prospect and should have another stellar Junior season this Fall.     Jackson is a long and athletic linebacker that can play inside or outside and runs well in the open field with ton of range and abilities to make plays outside the tackles. He takes proper angles in the open field when getting into the backfield and can redirect quickly and sniff out plays post snap before triggering. Jackson shows he can cover downfield and run with backs out of the backfield while playing with disciplined eyes in zone coverage and checks a lot of boxes from a physical standout heading into his junior year. Look for him to be one of the top at his position across the region in the 2028 class and is another no-brainer FCS+ college caliber prospect that is just getting going.
