Spring practice is right around the corner, and a lot of prospects around the state of Tennessee have emerged and etched their names as stars in their respective classifications. With a lot of the transfer portal calmed down, for now, I'm scouting the top players at each position in each class.

To start this series, I'll discuss Division II-A, beginning with quarterbacks. Here's a scouting report of my top five signal callers in DII-A.

2029 [player_tooltip player_id='1633788' first='Kohbe' last='Ward'] – Concord Christian School

[player_tooltip player_id='1633788' first='Kohbe' last='Ward'] had a big freshman season for Concord Christian, racking up 2,401 total yards with 24 touchdowns. He's a talented dual-threat quarterback who showed a lot of promise in his first season of high school football, when most players his age struggle to be consistent.

In this new age of football, having a mobile quarterback or at least one with some wiggle is vital. Ward fits that mold perfectly, being extremely agile, elusive and possessing great natural speed. He ran for an average of 6.4 yards per carry, but don't sleep on his arm.

The 2029 recruit has excellent arm talent and mechanics for his age, making him an intriguing prospect. He has that do-it-all ability, but my favorite part of Ward's game is his patience level. You rarely see him rush or force a play; he typically always waits for the right decision to open up. I love his potential and think he's one of the next superstar players in Tennessee.

2027 [player_tooltip player_id='446208' first='Cayden' last='Creech'] – University School of Jackson

[player_tooltip player_id='446208' first='Cayden' last='Creech'] is, without a doubt, one of the best and most efficient quarterbacks in Tennessee. The 2027 recruit did nothing but produce at a high level in his first season as the starter at USJ.

In 15 games this past season, he threw for 2,563 yards and 33 scores on a 67% completion rate with a 141.1 QB Rating. He's not a runner, but Creech has the mobility to keep plays alive with his legs or even take off. The signal caller totaled just five carries in 2025, but averaged 7.4 yards per carry.

He has excellent arm talent and the pocket presence that makes him likely the best returning Division II-A quarterback. Creech has shown clear progression over the past two seasons, so I cannot wait to see how he looks in his final year of high school football.

2028 [player_tooltip player_id='1196806' first='Tate' last='Mathis'] – Nashville Christian School

[player_tooltip player_id='1196806' first='Tate' last='Mathis'] is taking over for five-star quarterback and Tennessee high school football legend, [player_tooltip player_id='402548' first='Jared' last='Curtis']. While there's a lot of pressure on the rising junior, he's a tremendous talent who has everything it takes to pick up where the Vanderbilt signee left off. I'm not saying that Mathis will be the same caliber of player, but he has similar tools and FBS potential.

The 2028 prospect offers good size, standing 6-foot and weighing 195 pounds, with a thicker frame that allows him to move around and take some contact. He has a strong arm, good accuracy and can make every throw. Mathis showed excellent pocket presence and awareness in limited time last season, both things that not many inexperienced quarterbacks possess.

Something else to note is he's a very mobile guy who can juke out defenders or straight-up outrun people. Some people think Nashville Christian will take a huge step back after losing Curtis and a few others. I don't think so. This 2028 signal caller is the truth.

2027 [player_tooltip player_id='1104293' first='Blake' last='Waldorf'] – Friendship Christian School

2027 [player_tooltip player_id='1104293' first='Blake' last='Waldorf'] is an intriguing quarterback coming off his first varsity season at Friendship Christian, where he was highly impressive. The dual-threat player racked up 2,310 total yards and 26 touchdowns. For a first-year starter, he showed a lot of positive things and should have an even better season in 2026.

To start, I like his arm talent a lot. He has a strong arm, puts velocity on his throws, can complete passes in tight windows and has the perfect amount of touch. He's also mobile, totaling over 500 rushing yards in 2025.

Waldorf was a productive and efficient player this past season, but is due for an even bigger season as a senior.

2027 [player_tooltip player_id='1592519' first='Blake' last='Holton'] – Donelson Christian Academy

[player_tooltip player_id='1592519' first='Blake' last='Holton'] is one of the more underrated quarterbacks in Tennessee, but he can flat-out play ball. He did not have many opportunities to throw the football, as Donelson Christian was a run-first team, but he still threw for 1,088 yards and 13 touchdowns on just 146 attempts.

The rising senior quarterback had an interception problem, throwing nine of them. However, I like his arm talent and overall skill set. He possesses a strong arm with nice touch on his passes and solid accuracy, allowing him to make nearly every throw on the field.

Holton has solid pocket presence and awareness, which helps him keep plays alive and his eyes downfield.
