’28 Rankings Update | Stock Rising Running Back Names to Know

Our rankings list has grown to nearly 200 prospects and another 200+ in the watchlist to bring you the most comprehensive source for sophomore prospects. The next position group I'm looking at a growing group of running backs that looks ready to make some noise.   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />    <a href="https://x.com/GabeHegs" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">(@GabeHegs)</a>   Regina's Gabriel Hegelmeiner looks ready to take on the duties of being the feature back for the Regals next fall. Despite playing a backup role, Gabe still produced 294 yards and six touchdowns on 25 carries. Gabe is a well-rounded running back who has a great mix of speed and power, along with a nose for the big play. He has a very strong base and a sturdy frame at 5'11 and 190 pounds, which keeps him upright through tackle attempts and gives him the power to move piles for additional yards after contact. Strong runner in between the tackles, but can quickly bounce runs to the outside where he can reach his next gear. There were also some impressive blocking clips on Gabe's tape, where he lined up as a fullback and opened up lanes for his backfield mate. Hegelheimer also projects to be one of the top specialists in the state after converting 62 of 62 PATs, knocking in all four of his field goal attempts (long of 38), and averaging 33 yards per punt. Some schools have already begun to take notice of the Regina prospect, and it shouldn't be long before they start extending offers.      <a href="https://x.com/Doss22Braydan" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">(@Doss22Braydan)</a>   Massive leap in year two for Lewis Central running back, [player_tooltip player_id='1583687' first='Braydan' last='Doss']. Now the RB1 for the Titans, Braydan, showed out with 172 carries for 1,518 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns. Braydan is a tough runner who can slowly chip away at defenses between the tackles with a strong 5'10", 195-pound frame that he uses like a battering ram. Doss makes sure to go down fighting, as he dishes out stiff arms and high knees that make him very hard to take down on initial contact. He also runs with great vision and patience, allowing for his blocks to set up in front of him before finding an open crease and exploding through it. He can make sharp, subtle cuts to hit cutback lanes or shake defenders in the open field.      <a href="https://x.com/KameronAdams25" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">(@KameronAdams25)</a>   The South Hardin Tigers looked primed to make another deep November run with solid returning prospects like the team-leading rusher, sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='2050089' first='Kameron' last='Adams']. Kameron crossed a big milestone in joining the 1,000-yard club with 1,283 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns on 203 carries. Kameron is a bigger back with great size at 6'0" and 210 pounds who is a home run threat whenever he touches the ball. Watching his tape, my biggest takeaway is that Kameron is a physical, bouncy running back who isn't afraid to seek contact and also has the twitch to shake defenders in tight quarters. Great burst once he's cleared the second level with top-tier breakaway speed.      <a href="https://x.com/Norshawnpo98301" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">(@Norshawnpo98301)</a>   Despite the Trojans not having the season they were hoping for, there were still several bright spots to be optimistic about, including sophomore RB [player_tooltip player_id='1657949' first='Norshawn' last='Pompilus']. Pompilus flashed his upside even with a small sample size, totaling 215 yards on 52 carries. My takeaway from watching Norshawn's tape was that he has a good feel for running and a natural ability to find open lanes. He excels when he's able to use his speed to get to the edge, where he can then use his burst to explode around the corner for a solid gain. Norshawn also had some impressive pass-protection reps, where he easily picked up blitzing linebackers and put them in the dirt.      Mount Pleasant returns a solid group of players from their playoff squad last season, including rising RB [player_tooltip player_id='2092056' first='Griffen' last='Jones']. Griffen was their second leading rusher with 85 carries for 383 yards and eight touchdowns, setting himself up for a bigger role in 2026. Watching Griffen's clips, I was impressed by his overall playmaking ability, as he contributed 493 KO return yards, 2 return touchdowns, 21 tackles, a fumble recovery, and an interception as a key player on special teams and defense. He's not a super flashy RB who dances around, but he can hit his one cut and go. He has great vision to find his crease in the defense and then explode through it with a burst of speed.
