Decorated Edna Karr defensive tackle [player_tooltip player_id='710991' first='Richard' last='Anderson'] headlined the annual Warrick Dunn Award banquet Saturday in Baton Rouge.

The 6-foot-3, 360-pound LSU signee, one of the elite prospects in Louisiana's and the nation's 2026 class, became the third Baton Rouge-bound standout in as many years to earn the honor since the longstanding award moved to a statewide candidate pool in 2024 selected by the LHSAA Network — after previously being stewarded by WAFB and focusing on the Baton Rouge area.

Anderson joins Zachary pass-catcher Trey'Dez Green and Alexandria running back J.T. Lindsey the past two years.

He finished his senior year with 53 tackles, including 10 sacks, and 22 hurries, two fumble recoveries and an interception and was a dominant focal point in the middle of the Cougars' second straight undefeated state-championship run.

In addition to his own plays, Anderson commanded double- and triple-teams throughout the season to free up several of his talented teammates for big seasons as Edna Karr continued its dominant run to 27 straight wins over the past two years with only one in-state opponent even coming within three scores this fall.

In addition to Anderson, the banquet recognized Benjy Lewis (Ouachita Parish) as the second LHSAA Network Coach of the Year, the late John Talley Jr. (St. Charles Catholic) as the second Maelen Brooks Award winner for an unsung hero and a slew of Warrick Dunn Award finalists and LHSAA Network Regional MVPs.
