The Dewar Dragons are back to back state champions in Class B-1 after beating Laverne 14-6 on Thursday night in Edmond. That was the score at halftime and both defenses completely took over in the second half as the game turned into a slugfest. The Dragons overcame a devastating injury to their starting quarterback, relying on a freshman quarterback, one of the better running backs in 8-man football and a defense that came up big time after time. In this breakdown, we put the spotlight on six players that stood out in Thursday afternoon's title game. Below, we also have links to our game highlights, as well as our instant reaction recap video, immediately following the title game.

CLASS B-1 TOP PERFORMERS

[player_tooltip player_id='1573807' first='Braelin' last='Lewis'] - Senior Running Back - Dewar

For the second straight year, Dewar running back [player_tooltip player_id='1573807' first='Braelin' last='Lewis'] was dominant in a state championship game. Last season, Lewis ran for well over 200 yards as the Dragons captured the state championship. This season, he finished with 23 carries for 152 yards and a touchdown. And with Dewar losing their starting quarterback, they turned to Lewis to put the offense on his shoulders. He responded, specifically late in the fourth quarter when the Dragons were looking to clinch the game. He also had ten tackles on defense but it was his performance on offense that stole the show once again.

[player_tooltip player_id='1832914' first='Joseph' last='Moore'] - Junior Wide Receiver/Defensive Back - Dewar

Dewar junior wide receiver and defensive back [player_tooltip player_id='1832914' first='Joseph' last='Moore'] was one of the best looking prospects on the field Thursday night. Late in the second quarter, Moore had good reaction speed, catching a touchdown after it went in and out of the hands of a Laverne defender. Defensively, he ended up being Dewar's leading tackler on the night, finishing with 12 tackles, which was the most in the game. He also had two tackles for loss and an interception on the defensive side of the ball. We didn't know much about Moore coming into Thursday's game but he's a good-looking athlete with a high ceiling.

[player_tooltip player_id='1839102' first='Kade' last='Nichols'] - Sophomore Running Back - Laverne

Laverne sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1839102' first='Kade' last='Nichols'] might have had the best performance during the state championship game. Offensively, Nichols carried the ball 14 times for 73 yards. But he was also arguably their best player on the defensive side of the ball. He led the team in tackles with nine on the night, including two behind the line of scrimmage and he also came up with a fumble recovery. Things ultimately didn't go Laverne's way on Thursday night but the fact that the Tigers will be returning their starting quarterback and running back next season will make them a fun team to watch next fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1839106' first='Keaton' last='Cox'] - Sophomore Quarterback - Laverne

When you look at the stats and the overall breakdowns on Thursday's game, Laverne sophomore quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1839106' first='Keaton' last='Cox'] had a really solid performance. They just couldn't break that big play against the Dewar defense. Overall, Cox was carrying this Tiger offense, finishing 19-22 for 85 yards and a touchdown. He also had 18 carries for 63 yards. Going 19-22 in a state championship game is about as good as it gets. They just couldn't get any of those completions to go for more than five to ten yards. But Cox will be back next season, along with Nichols to make another run in 2026.

Traber Jones - Freshman Quarterback - Dewar

When Dewar lost their starting quarterback to a knee injury in the second quarter, they turned to freshman Traber Jones and he responded. On the same possession that the Dragons lost their starting QB, Jones finished that drive with his first completion of the game, which was a touchdown pass to put the Dragons up for good. Jones finished the game with a little over 100 yards and the touchdown on 6-7 passing. Being just a freshman and being thrust on the biggest stage of the year is not easy in any scenario. Jones didn't flinch and helped guide the Dragons to another state title.

[player_tooltip player_id='1831244' first='Trex' last='Carnagey'] - Senior Wide Receiver - Laverne

Laverne senior wide receiver and defensive standout [player_tooltip player_id='1831244' first='Trex' last='Carnagey'] is our final standout from the B-1 state title game. He ended up being on the other end of that Cox Touchdown pass for the only Laverne score of the night. Overall, he finished with six catches for 37 yards and a touchdown. But he was also one of the top defensive players for the Tigers on Thursday night. He finished with six tackles but two of them came behind the line of scrimmage and he also had the only sack for the Laverne defense. Carangey, a senior, was very fun to watch on both sides of the ball in his final high school game.
