Today we will be taking a look at some players from Wellington that were able to step up and dominate in the Championship game against Elizabeth. His burst through the second level and acceleration in open space showcased elite playmaking ability and forced the defense to account for him on every snap. Throughout the game, Meglen consistently made the first defender miss, turning routine carries into chunk gains that kept the offense ahead of the sticks and the pressure on the opposing defense. His second quarter touchdown run displayed the other side of his skillset, lowering his pads, driving through contact, and powering his way into the end zone. Despite taking a significant hit that left him visibly shaken, Meglen battled through it and continued to provide a spark each time he stepped on the field. His toughness, vision and big play capability made him one of the most impactful players in the title game. Meglen delivered in the first half and solidifying himself as one of Wellington's cornerstone playmakers.

Few players in the championship game delivered on both sides of the ball the way Gray did. His versatility and relentlessness made him one of the true difference makers of the night. Offensively, Gray was able to score with a dramatic 57-yard touchdown run on 4th and 1, displaying exceptional vision, balance and acceleration. He consistently picked up tough yardage between the tackles, kept drives alive and provided the physical running presence Wellington needed to control the tempo. His production forced the defense to stay honest and created opportunities for the offense to stay unpredictable. Defensively, Gray was even more impactful. His burst off the edge gave Wellington a disruptive force that his opponent struggled to handle. His most impressive play came in the second quarter, when he exploded into the backfield on an end-around and snatched the ball directly out of the runner's hands at the mesh point, an eye catching play few athletes can execute. Gray finished with 9 tackles and 4 tackles for loss, dominating with strength, instincts and superb timing. He embodied championship effort from start to finish.

Gabbert provided Wellington with dynamic presence on offense and a steady, disruptive hand on defense. His offensive highlight came on a redzone end-around, where he stayed low behind his blockers, showed great patience and slipped into the endzone for a touchdown. His ability to create explosive plays from multiple alignments makes him a playmaker on this team. Gabbert's versatility forces defenses to adjust anytime he is in motion or involved in misdirection, giving his team an advantage when he is on the field. Defensively, he was just as effective. Operating from the safety position, Gabbert showcased his instincts and range, finishing the night with five tackles and a forced fumble. He closed space quickly, attacked the ball with confidence and set the tone on the back end. Although not the tallest player, he compensates with incredible play recognition, toughness, and competitiveness. His ability to contribute in different phases elevates his value tremendously. Gabbert is a true playmaker who consistently found ways to influence the game and his performance on both sides of the ball made him a name to know.

Kisner proved once again that he is one of Wellington's most versatile and reliable offensive chess pieces. His ability to contribute as both a runner and receiver opened up the playbook and gave the offense an adaptable weapon who could take pressure off his teammates. Kisner was effective on the ground, showing smooth footwork, patience behind his blockers and a natural feel for finding daylight. His ability to pick up chunk yardage kept the offense in rhythm and kept the defense off balance. His receiving touchdown in the second quarter showcased his route running ability, as he separated cleanly and found space in the endzone for a nice score. When lined up wide, Kisner consistently created separation and secured grabs, displaying strong hands and awareness. His ability to transition seamlessly between positions makes him a mismatchup and extremely valuable to the offense. As he continues to develop, Kisner is set to become an even bigger focal point moving forward and his performance in the championship solidified him as a rising name to track closely.

Standing at 6'5” and over 215 pounds, [player_tooltip player_id='1694610' first='Tanner' last='McLean'] gave Wellington a mismatch option throughout the championship game. His combination of size, body control and sure hands made him a reliable target in key moments. McLean's ability to line up as tight end or flex out wide created matchup problems for defenders who struggled to account for his physical presence and catch radius. He came down with several impressive receptions, using his length to high point the football and extend drives. What makes McLean especially valuable is his speed at his size. He attacks and accelerates well for a big target and understands leverage, giving him the ability to win both vertically and across the middle. His potential as a redzone threat and intermediate playmaker elevated Wellington's offensive and his performance in the title game demonstrated why college coaches should be paying close attention.

Special teams is a critical phase of the game and Gearheard showed exactly why. His impact in the kicking game was extraordinary, delivering two blocked punts, something you don't see everyday, let alone in a state final. His timing and acceleration stood out immediately. Gearheard attacked the kick point with precision, using his speed to blow past blockers and disrupt everything before it developed. Each blocked punt injected momentum into Wellington's sideline and shifted field position dramatically, giving his team an edge early. Gearheard also contributed by recovering a fumble, further proving his knack for being around the football. His ability to make big plays on special teams demonstrates discipline, situational awareness and competitive fire. He plays with urgency and understands how to leverage his strengths to affect the game. Gearheard will be one of Wellington's most intriguing returning players, as his performance reflects someone ready to earn a larger role across multiple phases. His championship effort signals the beginning of what could be a breakout campaign next season.

Greiman played a crucial role in controlling the edge for Wellington's defense, displaying discipline, quickness and a strong understanding of run fit responsibilities. Opponents found little success trying to stretch plays to his side, as he consistently closed space and prevented cutback lanes with impressive lateral mobility. Greiman's technique stood out as he kept his pads low, used his hands effectively and maintained leverage, allowing him to shed blocks and redirect ball carriers. Throughout the game, Greiman showed a strong sense of timing, attacking when the opportunity opened while still keeping containment. He finished with nine tackles and a tackle for loss, showcasing his ability to diagnose plays, pursue with effort and finish with secure tackling. Greiman plays fast, decisive football and brings a physical presence that elevates the entire front. Entering his senior season, he is poised to gain significant attention as an edge defender capable of disrupting offenses with both technique and motor. His championship performance displayed the traits that make him a rising name in the 2A landscape.

Thurnes anchored Wellington's defense with a sideline to sideline presence that consistently shut down plays. His speed, instincts and ability to read his keys allowed him to flow downhill with confidence and meet the ball carrier with force. Thurnes had eight tackles, including two tackles for loss and a sack, proving himself as a dynamic second-level defender who can disrupt plays in multiple ways. His ability to shed blocks quickly stood out. He stays square, keeps his eyes disciplined and strikes with great pad level. In coverage, Thurnes showed strong awareness, dropping into passing lanes and taking away quick routes across the middle. His anticipation helped him be able to contest throws and disrupt rhythm.
Thurnes is a complete linebacker that brings physicality, discipline and versatility. He is entering a pivotal offseason with momentum and will look to compete on the camp circuit to elevate his recruiting stock. Based on his championship performance, he has all the tools to stand out as a name to know.

Today we will be taking a look at some players from Wellington that were able to step up and dominate in the Championship game against Elizabeth. These are the players that were able to make plays and be impactful for Wellington on their way to a dominant win in the Championship game.
