Pre District Scouting Report: Waterford Mott

This was my first chance to see Waterford Mott and some of their top stars play in person. Though the result wasn't what they wanted, they still showed flashes, especially in the 2nd half. Below are a few of the major standouts!    This was my first time watching this guy in person in game action, and he lived up to all of my expectations. A great get off, great bend and tremendous speed and power allows him to be an effective pass rusher on all downs against all different kinds of tackles. He has a toolbox full of pass rush moves, and has the sheer strength to knock tackles off balance and get into the backfield quickly. He's a tackle machine that definitely made his presence felt all night even when things weren't going their way. Great performance by him, Charlotte is getting a good one!     Geno Seets is the definition of a gamer. A true Swiss Army knife for this team, Geno was effective at QB, WR and DB for this team. At QB, he was incredibly elusive. At his size, it's impressive to see the way he extends plays, improvises and scrambles. At wideout, he had a couple of really nice grabs that are far beyond what most full-time receivers can manage. Defensively, he was able to play up in the box and be physical, or cover a huge zone and really make life difficult on the offense trying to throw the ball downfield. Even Dow coaches on the sidelines had a couple of “Oh wow” moments as Seets pulled another rabbit out of the hat. Phenomenal performance for the Central Michigan commit.     This was not someone I was familiar with before Friday night, but I came away pretty impressed. He was a dominant force in the middle for Mott, and had quite a few good qualities. First off, he fired off low consistently. Great initial contact that allowed him to anchor down and control his gap. A few times he was able to hold off the offensive lineman and make the stop right in the hole before the play ever really got started. Taylen is also athletic enough to chase down a play going away from him and get in on the tackle. He's also a solid offensive lineman who shines in the run game, and also getting out and executing blocks in the open field on screens.     Ayden had a really nice performance on Friday night. A powerful downhill LB. I love his ability to shed blocks and get free to make tackles. He reacts quickly and trusts his instincts on every play. I honestly haven't evaluated a ton of standout LBs this year, but he has definitely stuck out. Great performance by Ayden against a really challenging and balanced offense.     Kareem was a consistent back with good vision, above average balance and blazing quickness. Multiple times, it looked like has wrapped up, but he continued to fight for extra yardage. He showed off some nice vision, cutting back and getting to the weak spot of the defense. It was hard to keep going back to him later in the game as the score started to slip away, but I still really like what Kareem was able to do with his opportunities.
