After ending the 2023 season as Class D2 runner-up, the Wynot Blue Devils made sure that they weren't leaving Memorial Stadium without the gold. They more than accomplished that in a game for the ages, resulting in a 71-60 win over the St. Mary Cardinals. There were several standouts from this explosive, high-powered affair that broke the record for most points scored in a playoff game by both teams.

Kotner Koch, 2026 - WR - Class D2 Championship MVP

Senior Kotner Koch absolutely exploded in the state championship game as he made plays on both offense and defense. Kotner did most of his damage through the air, hauling in 13 receptions for 265 yards and four receiving touchdowns. Koch also had two rushing touchdowns and recorded seven tackles and two interceptions on the defensive side.

QB [player_tooltip player_id='1869970' first='Devin' last='Brummer'] balled out under the Memorial Stadium lights as he led the Blue Devils to their first state championship. Brummer ended the game with an efficient 88% completion rate (23/26) for 394 passing yards and seven passing touchdowns for a QBR of 296.9.

[player_tooltip player_id='1695214' first='Lane' last='Heimes'], 2027 - RB/LB -

Junior [player_tooltip player_id='1695214' first='Lane' last='Heimes'] may not have had the monstrous stat line that we've been accustomed to in recent weeks, but he still had a huge impact in Wynot, winning the game. Lane carried the ball 24 times for 78 yards and had three receptions for 35 yards, racking up two touchdowns along the way (one receiving; one rushing). Lane also contributed four tackles on the defensive side of the ball.

Jed Nelson, 2026 - LB -

Although 60 points from the opposing offense doesn't scream "great defensive efforts," several players on the Wynot defense were still flying around making plays. One player who stood out was senior Jed Nelson, who made a few big stops that set the St. Mary offense back, ending the night with four tackles, two TFLs, and two sacks.

Braylon Hans, 2026 - WR/ATH -

Braylon Hans is another player who stood out for his two-way playmaking abilities. Hans finished second in receiving with four catches for 71 yards and a receiving touchdown. He was also a key player on defense with eight tackles, a TFL, a sack, and a fumble recovery.
