Scouting 2027 Safety Class: Stars, Sleepers, and Secrets

The junior season is perhaps the most important year for recruits to put a strong resume on tape for college coaches to see and evaluate their games and the level of prospect they project them to turn into at the next level. In this edition of the series, we take a look at some of the intriguing names to monitor in the state of Tennessee for the 2027 recruiting cycle at the safety position.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">SCOUTING THE STARS</h2>    [player_tooltip player_id='903033' first='Omarii' last='Sanders'] is an athletic jumbo safety with elite length and closing speed, traits that have some projecting as an outside linebacker for the next level, but he has the skills to start out at safety as he prefers.   He has continued to grow into his long 6-foot-4 frame with long arms which makes his downhill tackling ability in the box even more evident as he delivers some big hits on runners or even to a receiver getting a quick pass.   He plays center field safety for his high school and has a lot of success in that role with his ability to cover ground quickly and his newfound ball skills.   Regardless of position, this is an athlete with elite length and movement skills that every college program will want on their team.    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">SCOUTING THE SLEEPERS</h2>    [player_tooltip player_id='1294979' first='Jarrell' last='Chandler'] is a versatile safety with elite size that holds a strong all-around skillset that makes him very valuable on the back end of a defense.   He great size and is a very willing and effective tackler, especially now that he has grown into his frame. He has good athleticism and ball skills which allow for him to stay in coverage against receiving threats and this allows for him to be used all over the secondary.   This is a prospect that has great size and athleticism and can impact the secondary positively in a variety of ways.     [player_tooltip player_id='1162582' first='Jaden' last='Butler'] is an athletic downhill safety with very good size and athleticism, making him an effective tackler from the beginning of the play until the end.   When he puts his foot in the ground and attacks the ball carrier, he can not be stopped, and delivers violent tackles consistently, especially as he has filled out his frame over the offseason.   I first noticed him last season as a receiver and recognized his natural movement skills and that has translated to both sides of the ball this season, as he has become a primary scoring option and tackling option for his team.   This is a prospect with size, tackling, and athleticism and has taken the next step forward to being a Power Four level prospect.    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">SCOUTING THE SECRETS</h2>    [player_tooltip player_id='1664092' first='Amari' last='Mitchell'] is an athletic strong safety with elite length and good natural movement skills, breaking ability, and improving ball skills.   The junior looked noticeably improved as an athlete this season, which strengthens my confidence in his development under a good coaching staff as the baseline traits of a quality strong safety are there.   He is an assertive and effective tackler that will get even better as he keeps filling out his long frame. He is still improving in coverage and has grown enough to at least have chances to make some splash plays.   Mitchell likely will be strictly a strong safety and will need some time to develop but a good coaching staff can unlock the potential with his skillset with a good plan and vision.
