We're still almost a month from the playoffs in Louisiana and two months from state championships and all-state teams.

Trying to gather a complete picture and comprehensive, up-to-date statistics from 300-some-odd teams in the thick of district play presents its timing and availability challenges to potentially compiling a true midseason all-state team without overlooking anyone.

But I've had a chance to see about two dozen teams already through the first six weeks of the regular season — with several standout performances along the way — and thought we could compile those into sort of a midseason progress report in an all-state style of format.

A Small Schools Team representing Class 1A, Class 2A and Class 3A levels and a Large Schools Team representing the Class 4A and Class 5A levels will each feature 40 players: 20 on offense (13 first-team and seven honorable mentions) and 23 on defense and special teams (13 first-team defense, three special teams and seven honorable mentions).

Note: These are strictly eye-catchers from my personal in-person stops during the first half of this football season.

Check out the Large Schools Offense below, and click here for the Large Schools Defense.

Also, note: some players are two-way athletes who were placed on one side of the ball or the other with prioritization of where they stood out more during the in-person visits and to incorporate more players where possible — not necessarily where they will fit best in college.
