The first five weeks of Louisiana's high school football season — the month of September spilling into the first couple days of October — didn't feature much quantity of new college commitments.

But the quality is impossible to ignore.

Here's a look at a handful of commitments from the first month (and change) of the season.

[player_tooltip player_id='261907' first='Peyton' last='Houston'] — 6-0, 195 QB — Evangel Christian (2027) —> LSU

The highly touted junior quarterback became the first member of Louisiana's 2027 class to announce a football commitment — and one that came much to the delight of home-state fans as he opted in favor of LSU over Oklahoma, USC, Texas, Texas A&M and a long list of other options from coast to coast.

[player_tooltip player_id='401111' first='JaMichael' last='Garrett'] — 5-11, 195 LB — Central (2026) —> Ole Miss

Louisiana's highest remaining uncommitted senior entering the season came (back) off the board in mid-September as the one-time Auburn pledge, who moved this offseason from Alabama, announced his new plans to attend Ole Miss for college. Garrett is a long athlete who can run and cover, but is a more than willing and capable tackler.

[player_tooltip player_id='1237769' first='Zion' last='Lee'] — 5-11, 225 LB/RB — Bunkie (2026) —> Navy

The big, physical two-way star for the Panthers had appeared Navy-bound during this offseason, but made his announcement in mid-September that he would indeed be committing to the Midshipmen, a program where his character and style of play should prove a great fit.

[player_tooltip player_id='1757515' first='Kervin' last='Johnson Jr.'] — 6-3, 190 WR — Tioga (2026) —> Louisiana Tech

The tall, athletic pass-catcher quietly committed to nearby Louisiana Tech early in the season and should add another nice in-state steal to the Bulldogs' class. Johnson is one of Louisiana's better jump-ball catchers with his frame, timing and hands and has shown the speed to be dangerous after the catch.

[player_tooltip player_id='924621' first='Brayden' last='Allen'] — 6-1, 175 WR — Lafayette Christian (2026) —> Oklahoma

The reason this list spills into October, the prolific Lafayette Christian wide receiver reopened his recruiting process in late September — backing off a summer pledge to Tulane — and announced Oct. 1 a commitment to Oklahoma over Colorado and other Power-Four options that arose during the past couple months.
