Film Friday: Checking out the North Coast Section sack leaders

Hall is one of the top small school players across the region and has been off to a strong start to kick off his senior season campaign. He is a high motor kid that wins with power at the POA and is stout against the run while able to quickly get off the ball and knife into the backfield with a quick use of hands from either the interior or the edge. He shows backside pursuit, is a good tackler in space and has some good closing speed and overall fluidity/athleticism especially for his size. He checks in as the sack leader across the north coast section heading into week 6 with 8.5 sacks in only 5 games played.     Bailey is another Humboldt County product that is off to a strong start and can play anywhere along the defensive line and is a no-brainer college caliber prospect that has been flying under the radar. He is a twitchy rusher for his size, shows he can get underneath blockers and redirect to the ball and is heavy handed and is stout against the run when taking on double teams/pullers. Overall he is a very technically sound prospect that could find his home on the inside or the edge at the next level, and is going to be a nice late steal down the road. He checks in having 8 total sacks at the mid-way point of the year.     Botello is coming off a nice Junior season in 2024, and is one of the top players in the north bay that has been flying a bit under the radar. He is a heavy handed striker that is very technically sound and wins with power at the POA. Botello shows a variety of power rush moves at his disposal, gets a good jump off the ball and can bend the corner and counter back inside if needed. He creates immediate knock-back and controls blockers with his hands while able to collapse the pocket quickly. Overall, he is a very balanced player that will excel at the D3+ level. He currently has 5 sacks in five games played.     Gray checks into the NCS sack rankings at number three and has been off to a terrific start so far for a pretty impressive Dublin team. He is a twitchy and explosive edge rusher that has an excellent get off, heavy hands and natural bend around the edge. He has a diverse skillset and pass rush tools in his toolbox while able to play stout against the run, set the edge and take on double teams/pullers without losing ground. Also a high motor kid with closing speed and good COD abilities as well, he should find his home on the edge in college and is going to be a D3+ level steal. He currently has five sacks in five games played.     Lawson is a multi-sport athlete that excels as a true edge rusher and does a nice job using his initial twitch and length at the POA to win. He is quick off the ball to gain ground on tackles fast, shows he can bend underneath punches and shows body control and redirect abilities when countering back inside. Lawson also shows he can set the edge without losing ground and uses his leverage well against bigger blockers. Overall a plus athlete for the position and has been excellent this year, he is sitting at at five sacks through the midway point of the season and should end near the top of the sack rankings as well.
