Hendersonville needed every minute in regulation and the overtime period to defeat Station Camp in what became a classic finish that resulted in a one point region win for the home team.

This game didn't start the way Hendersonville wanted to but it definitely ended in their favor as the Commandos fought back to defeat region foe Station Camp in overtime, 37-36. These two teams played a classic, a back and forth affair that saw the momentum swing on multiple occasions until the home team pulled it out in the end.

The entire first half was all Station Camp. The Bison moved the ball well on offense while their defense held the Commandos run game in-check. Junior kicker/punter Gavin Hastings got the scoring going with a well booted field goal to put the Bison up 3-0. They would expand on that score with multiple touchdown passes from quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1535793' first='Colton' last='Overbey'].

The junior signal caller was sharp in the first half along with nice command. He found two open receivers in Luke Gilbert and Cayden Moore to push the Bison score out to 17-0 but it was still early and Hendersonville had a chance to come back.

Right before halftime, the Commandos put together a nice drive to get three points on the board and go into the break down, 17-3. That score helped but all the momentum was on the side of Station Camp. Well that all changed as the second half began and from that point forward, we were in for a barn burner.

Hendersonville had the ball to start the second period and immediately put together their best drive of the night. Multiple big runs from [player_tooltip player_id='1960150' first='Tate' last='Rumney'], who had an outstanding game with 305 yards rushing, put the Commandos in prime scoring position. Junior quarterback Christopher Jordan tossed a screen pass from the five yard line to [player_tooltip player_id='1960485' first='Ayden' last='Meadows'] and the junior worked his way into the end zone.

Down 17-10, the Commandos kept the mojo going as Luke Carr forced a fumble to give the offense the ball back where Rumney scored on the 1st play of the drive. All of a sudden, we had a tied game at 17-17 with both teams in the mix to come out on top.

The Commandos and Bison traded blows the rest of the way, either going score for score or getting defensive stops. It was hard to see Station Camp in this position after leading most of the game but the Commandos kept fighting. The biggest factor behind Hendersonville getting back in this game was strong adjustments in the line of scrimmage along with better defensive play.

Station Camp regained the lead in the fourth quarter after a 62 yard rushing touchdown from Overbey and pushed their way closer to victory but they needed their defense to get a stop. That didn't happen as the Commandos kept their heads and put together an excellent drive to push themselves in position to tie or take the lead.

The Commandos would score after a short yard run by Carr to tie the game at 30-30 and all Hendersonville needed was an extra point to win but the Bison blocked it and kept their hopes alive. It was an exciting finish in regulation but we were blessed with more time and the outcome in the air as both teams were right there for victory.

Hendersonville took the ball first in overtime and scored after a short yard touchdown run to pull ahead, 37-30. Station Camp received their shot to tie it up and they did as Overbey looked right then left to find an open [player_tooltip player_id='906617' first='Eric' last='Ginther'] in the end zone to pull the Bison to within one point.

Instead of going for the extra point, the Bison coaching staff went for two and the win. Hendersonville was ready and prepared as they bursted through the line and stuffed the Station Camp ball carrier in the backfield to solidify the win. The play looked strange from the jump as everybody moved quicker than needed but the Commandos did their part and pulled off the comeback victory.

This turned out to be one of the best games I have covered all season and a game the home Commandos should use for confidence moving forward. This was also a big region win for Hendersonville that put them closer to the top of the region and a shot at finishing in second place.

Rumney proved to be a difference maker in this contest as he ran for 305 yards on 39 carries and one touchdown. While he only produced one score, the Commandos junior back generated several big runs that kept drives alive. He was the one player that the Station Camp defense didn't have an answer for and could not bottle up. This was a coming out party for Rumney as it placed him on the map as a back to watch for our junior class and someone I think has more levels to his game with further development.

If Rumney didn't rush for over 300 yards, Carr would have been our player of the game. On several occasions in this matchup, the Commandos senior linebacker made game changing plays. He forced several fumbles, generated multiple tackles versus the run and made a key interception in the 1st half to stall the Bisons drive. Carr also helped on offense with a rushing touchdown. This was a breakout game for Carr and one he can build on the rest of the season.

It wasn't a perfect night for Overbey but he still produced at a high level and put his team in position to win. The Station Camp quarterback displayed his skill set in several ways by throwing for multiple touchdowns and generating a few long runs, including a 62 yard score. Overbey is a crafty signal caller that has a great feel for the game along with nice command of the huddle. He does need to get much stronger but he's the school's all time leading passer for a reason.

The stat sheet may not show the importance Jordan had on this game as his steady play behind center was a key factor behind the Commandos victory. This guy is more of a runner than a passer and his wheels worked in this matchup as he produced several big gains that kept drives alive while occasionally completing passes. Jordan was also a calm, poised competitor that didn't make many mistakes nor wavered on the Commandos shot to come back.

Other Top Performers

‘27 (WR) Cayden Moore - Station Camp: This junior was the Bison top pass catcher in this game where he came up with several big catches on the night along with a key interception in the second half. Moore isn't the flashiest guy but he is crafty and tough with understanding on how to get open.

‘27 (G/C) [player_tooltip player_id='1602208' first='Colt' last='Patterson'] - Hendersonville: The Commandos needed their O-line to step up in the 2nd half and they did with Patterson leading the way. His work in the middle was critical in Rumney's 300 plus yard game as well as his getting things fixed up front to help push his team to victory.

‘27 (Ath) [player_tooltip player_id='1960485' first='Ayden' last='Meadows'] - Hendersonville: Meadows played a key role in the Commandos win as a two-way player that made big plays on both sides of the ball. This is an athletic young man that displayed upside for either receiver or defensive back in this game. This junior might turn out to be the team's top college prospect.

‘27 (Edge/LB) [player_tooltip player_id='1960489' first='Jameer' last='Alexander'] - Station Camp: Out of all the prospects I scouted in this game, Alexander may be the guy that has the biggest college upside. This junior defender flashed on several occasions throughout this game, generating a sack and several tackles on defense along with a short yard touchdown run on offense.
