One of the most anticipated matchups of the week in Class 5A as a hot-running Black Raiders team came on the road to try to spoil Ankeny's homecoming and snap a 4-game losing streak to them. However, Ankeny put them in their place as they emerged with a 26-6 lead by the end of the 3rd quarter. The Black Raiders refused to go out quietly, rallying with 2 touchdowns in the last 4 minutes of the game to cut the deficit to just 6, but by then, it was too late, and their hopes for a stunning comeback were dashed with their final onside kick attempt going out of bounds. Ankeny was outmatched in terms of yardage (355-262), but the Hawks showed more precision and made far less mistakes than Ankeny, which allowed them to stay a step ahead of the Black Raiders as they reaffirm their standing in this conference.

Top Performer: [player_tooltip player_id='401669' first='Daniel' last='Larmie'] (SR) - The Hawks relied on Larmie's steady progress moving the chains with short, gritty runs. Larmie pushed his way for 154 yards on 31 carries (5 YPC) and a rushing TD that ultimately ate up much of the clock in the second half that gave the Black Raiders almost none to complete their comeback.

The Mustangs were expecting an easy blowout over a struggling 1-3 Waukee unit on homecoming night. However, the Warriors came to play, and they gave the Mustangs all they could handle. With the game tied at 14 heading into the 4th, it became a back-and-forth showdown with both teams connecting on multiple scoring drives. Trailing by 7 with just 3 and a half minutes remaining, the Mustangs drove down and scored with 56 seconds remaining before gambling on a two-point attempt, which went successfully thanks to a perfectly-executed bootleg pass. Waukee's last-ditch effort ended with an interception off of a deep heave, giving the Mustangs a big win on homecoming night as they continue to build traction as one of the most unexpected rising units in this conference this season.

With two 1-3 teams battling out against each other, the Stars took a 14-12 lead heading into the 4th quarter, but no one would've expected the absolute fireworks that were set off over the last 12 minutes. The two teams combined for a whopping 46 points in the 4th quarter with both teams hitting home-run plays for short touchdown drives as neither defense was able to contain the other. However, it was the Railsplitters, who ripped open the Stars' defense with 433 rushing yards and 5 TDs that ultimately built a 32-21 with just 3 and a half minutes to go. Lincoln responded with a touchdown, but the Railsplitters recovered the onside kick and scored on the following drive to essentially put the game away, winning in an unexpected shootout.

Even with the Roughriders tough performance this season, they had a favorable matchup taking on a winless Ames team at home on homecoming with an opportunity to avenge their previous two losses to the Little Cyclones. Ames dominated offensively, finishing well ahead of the Roughriders in total yardage (303-126). However, they weren't able to capitalize off of this yardage as they committed 3 turnovers. After a tied 14-14 result at halftime, the Roughriders scored in the third quarter and were able to shut out the Little Cyclones in the second half to earn a solid win on homecoming, in which now, the Roughriders have surpassed their win total from last year with 2 in 2025.

Flipping the script with a homecoming night gone wrong, the Trojans had a huge matchup hosting the Lightning on this special night. The game started off close, with the game tied 24-24 at halftime. In the second half, the Lightning pulled away quickly as they built a 44-24 lead early in the 4th quarter with the game practically sealed. The Lightning ran all over the Trojans' defense as they racked up 334 rushing yards and 5 TDs as the Trojans had no counter for it. The rivalry between these two teams should certainly heat up going forward, as the two are 2-2 over their last 4 matchups, and it wouldn't be surprising if we see these two compete again in the playoffs.

On the ground, Rettig ran for 160 yards on 23 carries (7 YPC) and 3 rushing TDs.
