After a hectic week in Class 3A Iowa, the playoff picture in this conference continues to shake up. Although the 3 teams at the top managed to come out clean as they stay undefeated through week 6, the race for spots is starting to wind down with several teams beginning to pull ahead, including some surprising names that have emerged in this conference this season. We recap what went down over the weekend in Class 3A Iowa in week 6!

Top Games:

Humboldt vs. Algona: 28-23

It has been an up-and-down season for Humboldt following a spectacular run last season, and Algona seemed poised to win this rivalry matchup to damper on the Wildcats' uneasy momentum. Algona started off strong, taking a 17-7 lead at halftime. However, Humboldt was able to completely dominate for nearly the entire second half. While Algona was able to completely outgain the Wildcats (426-275), they were shutout of the endzone for much of the second half, combined with 2 turnovers, Humboldt surged with 21 unanswered points in the second half to take a 2-possession lead with just 2 minutes to go. Algona scored on their following drive, but it was too late, and their last-ditch onside kick was recovered by Humboldt. The loss is a huge blow for the Bulldogs, who may be on the fringe of missing the playoffs despite a highly anticipated season.

Top Performer: [player_tooltip player_id='1649206' first='Chase' last='Flaherty'] (SR) - Flaherty was responsible for accumulating nearly all of Humboldt's passing production, finishing with 104 of the team's 114 receiving yards on 6 receptions and catching both TD passes from Jackson Flahery, while adding 4 tackles on defense.

Nevada vs. Williamsburg: 26-18

Homecoming night was a special one for the Raiders, as despite their 2-3 record, they were prepared to take down the 4-1 Cubs, and that's exactly what they did. Despite the Cubs totally outgaining the Raiders (391-240), the Cubs were also fraught with 2 costly turnovers, including a game-changing pick-six at the end of the first half which gave the Raiders a 12-7 advantage heading into the half. The Raiders never gave up their lead, building their lead to the eventual final score heading into the 4th quarter, and holding off the Raiders for a stunning upset. Having won their last two in a row, the Raiders have built some steady momentum back in the postseason hunt.

Top Performer: [player_tooltip player_id='1241518' first='Dylan' last='Weisskopf'] (SR) - It was Weisskopf's big play in the first half that changed the momentum and sparked the upset win on homecoming night, jumping a 4th and 3 pass and taking it 82 yards to the house. He finished the night with a team-high 13.5 tackles (11 solo), 1 TFL, and 1 sack, while adding a team-high 5 receptions for 39 yards. He also proved reliable in setting up the defense with his punts, averaging an impressive 46.9 yards per kick on 7 punts.

Independence vs. West Delaware: 42-27

Sitting as one of the three remaining undefeated teams, West Delaware had another prove it matchup this week against Independence, who was coming off a shutout loss to Clear Lake. Capitalizing off the Mustangs' downswing, the Hawks rumbled on the ground for 318 rushing yards and 6 TDs as the Mustangs simply couldn't stop the run. While the Mustangs were able to keep up with the Hawks' offense for most of the game, they steadily wore down, and by the 4th quarter, the Hawks pulled away and secured a 2-possession victory. Already having surpassed their win total from last season, the Hawks continue to play like legitimate contenders in this conference, though their biggest test will lie ahead in two weeks when they go to take on Clear Lake.

Top Performer: [player_tooltip player_id='1242282' first='Macoy' last='Roling'] (SR) - Having the biggest role in the Hawks' heavy run-attack, Roling ran for 134 yards on 20 carries (6.7 YPC) and 2 rushing TDs while adding 1 reception for 11 yards and 4.5 tackles on defense.

Central DeWitt vs. Wahlert Catholic: 17-12

Coming off their first loss of the year to Assumption, the Sabers had another difficult matchup taking on the reigning 3A champions. The game proved to be a defensive battle, though the Sabers earned the lead at the end of the first quarter, the Golden Eagles responded with two touchdowns to lead 14-6 at halftime. The defense never let up for the Golden Eagles, holding the Sabers out of the endzone again until within the final minute of the game, in which at that point, the game was out of reach. The defense, which has allowed 11.7 PPG has been the primary catalyst for the Golden Eagles this season, and they will have to continue relying on that strong defensive play if they want to push for a second straight 3A title.

Top Performer: [player_tooltip player_id='1840820' first='Noah' last='Krapfl'] (SR) - Leading the way for the Golden Eagles' defense, Krapfl finished with a team-high 10 tackles (7 solo), 1 TFL, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery, while helping limit the Sabers' solid run-game to just 3.6 YPC.

MOC-Floyd Valley vs. Bishop Heelan: 21-0

After a huge win over Algona, the Dutchmen were fully prepared to take the conference by storm by upsetting Bishop Heelan on the road to spoil their homecoming night. Unfortunately, the Crusaders proved too much for them. The game started as a defensive battle, with both teams unable to score through the first half. The Dutchmen simply were not able to muster up anything offensively, with just 70 yards of total offense and 2 turnovers, the Crusaders started scoring in the second half, and the Dutchmen simply were unable to respond, allowing Bishop Heelan to cruise to a shutout victory as they continue to affirm their status as a powerhouse in Class 3A.

Top Performer: [player_tooltip player_id='1238514' first='Kasen' last='Thomas'] (SR) - Single-handedly leading the Crusaders to victory, Thomas ran for 155 yards on 26 carries (6 YPC) and 2 rushing TDs while recording 2.5 tackles, 1 TFL, and 1 sack on defense.

Other Notable Results from Week 6:

Mount Pleasant vs. Fort Madison: 61-0

Keokuk vs. Solon: 58-6

Knoxville vs. Winterset: 56-15

Creston vs. Harlan Community: 56-35

Des Moines Christian vs. Saydel: 55-0

Perry vs. Atlantic: 49-7

Assumption vs. Maquoketa: 42-7

Sioux Center vs. Webster City: 42-28

Fairfield vs. Washington: 42-30

Iowa Falls-Alden vs. Charles City: 37-21

Carroll vs. Greene County: 35-0

Benton vs. Clear Lake: 35-7

Center Point-Urbana vs. Mount Vernon: 34-14

Top 10 Standouts from Week 6:

QB [player_tooltip player_id='1581168' first='Kellen' last='Haverback'] (SR) - Mount Vernon: 31/49, 370 yards, 5 TDs, 1 INT, 6 rushing yards, 2 punts (37.5 yards per punt)

QB [player_tooltip player_id='1848693' first='Ezra' last='Hibma'] (JR) - Sioux Center: 10/15, 235 yards, 4 TDs, 6 rushing yards

QB Karsen Kalous (JR) - Iowa Falls-Alden: 12/20, 210 yards, 4 TDs, 1 INT, 65 rushing yards on 11 carries (5.9 YPC), 1 rushing TD

RB Ayden Redmon (SR) - 243 rushing yards on 17 carries (14.3 YPC), 3 rushing TDs

ATH [player_tooltip player_id='1631206' first='Kael' last='Williams'] (SR) - Washington: 5/8, 68 yards, 241 rushing yards on 19 carries (12.7 YPC), 3 rushing TDs

ATH [player_tooltip player_id='1246757' first='Cade' last='Olberding'] (JR) - Iowa Falls-Alden: 6 receptions, 140 yards, (23.3 YPC), 3 TDs, 24 rushing yards on 3 carries, 1/1, 9 passing yards, 3 tackles, 91 return yards, 2 punts (32 yards per punt)

ATH [player_tooltip player_id='1695286' first='Joseph' last='Molina'] (SR) - Sioux Center: 3 receptions, 125 yards (41.7 YPC), 2 receiving TDs, 70 rushing yards on 14 carries, 1 rushing TD, 2 tackles, 1 INT

DL [player_tooltip player_id='1421460' first='Ty' last='Muhlbauer'] (SR) - Carroll: 6 tackles (4 solo), 3 TFLs, 3 sacks, 1 forced fumble

LB/TE [player_tooltip player_id='1241518' first='Dylan' last='Weisskopf'] (SR) - Williamsburg: 13.5 tackles (11 solo), 1 TFL, 1 sack, 1 INT returned for TD, 5 receptions, 39 yards, 7 punts (46.9 yards per punt)

ATH [player_tooltip player_id='1197495' first='Davis' last='Tokheim'] (JR) - Des Moines Christian: 2 tackles, 1 forced fumble, 2 INTs, 2 defensive TDs, 96 rushing yards on 5 carries (19.2 YPC), 2 rushing TDs, 45-yard punt return TD
