Unknown Running Backs Out to Strong Starts

Many running backs in the state have had big starts to their season this year. Some of them are hidden gems who are showcasing their talent on the gridiron. Take a look at 8 tailbacks who are unknown are unknown studs this season.    Kolton has been making an impact on varsity since his freshman year. This year however, he is the go-to vocal point on offense. Kolton does a little bit of everything for Coleman; he can use his electric speed to find an opening in the secondary to burn past the defense or line up out wide and he can run past the secondary as a deep threat. Kolton can change directions when running the ball quickly and his cuts are low to the ground so he never will trip himself up. He is already up to 905 total yards this year to go along with 15 total touchdowns. I am a big fan of Kolton's game, and I think he might be one of the more underrated RBs in the state.     Wyatt is as tough as they come out of the backfield. He specializes in running between the tackles and he seems to invite contact every down of the game. Wyatt lowers his shoulder and delivers bruising hits on the defense. He runs like a locomotive once he passes the LOS. In space, Wyatt can use his athleticism and speed to outrun the defense outside the tackle box. He has so far run for 429 yards this season and 7 touchdowns and is the big, bell cow back for Ashland. College Coaches get this senior on your radar.     Ayden has really filled out his massive frame. He went from 165 pounds last year to 200 pounds this year and it really shows on tape. He not only got bigger but he also improved as a runner. His speed and power headline Ayden's style. For being such a big back, he has still kept his one cut speed where when he gets the ball, he has the ability to make a move and take it the distance. Ayden is not afraid to do the dirty work as a lead blocker. He has already surpassed his rushing total from last year (608 to 616 rushing yards) and Ayden is a huge reason why Amherst is off to a 5-0 start this year.     Miles is a stat sheet stuffer for Wausau West. He is a patient runner on offense who uses his vision and speed to create chunk plays. That vision also helps when he has to stop and juke out a defender. He lines up all throughout the backfield for the Warriors; from the split back position to being a wildcat QB. Miles is very versatile on offense and can be a weapon out of the backfield in the passing game. Miles is an emerging prospect for the Warriors, and I think he is one of the top running backs in the Wausau Area.     Cale is a high energy running back out of Wilmot Union. Even with his small stature (5 ‘6 165 pounds) you won't find a running back harder to tackle than Cale. He runs with some toughness to his game and has a powerful lower body. When you think the play is over, Cale's agility can spring him loose out of a dogpile of players. Since he runs lower to the ground than most players, his balance helps him stay upright when he is absorbing a hit. Cale is a versatile senior who plays with a unique rushing style that can ignite any offense.     Sawyer has exceptional vision out of the backfield. Once he receives the ball he is dialed into the field where he will find a hole opening up for him to burst through. His burst continues when he is past the line of scrimmage where he can stop on a dime, make the defender miss, and with one step, burst right past them. Sawyer will rarely go down on the first hit and he keeps his knees driving on every step. He has an electric running style and has run for 710 yards and 12 touchdowns this season. Sawyer is a workhorse for a good 4-1 Roncalli squad.     Mason is a speedster out of Kiel. As soon as he gets the ball, he has the ability to take it the distance for a touchdown. Speed might be his calling card, but Mason is some sneaky elusiveness and strength to his game. He can scamper around the defenders with his quick feet. Even with Mason being a smaller back (5 ‘8 165 pounds) he still uses his strength to power past the defense. He has 686 total yards on offense this year. I love Mason's running style, and I believe that he will keep producing on offense over the next two years.     Grayson looks like he glides when he runs. He runs with some spunk to his style and has raw speed that helps him explode down the field. When Grayson gets to the corner, he looks like a track athlete running a 100-meter sprint. Speed may be his calling card, but Grayson is also a durable runner. He bounces off tackle attempts like a pinball machine. His momentum carries him forward and he rarely falls backward when he gets tackled. Grayson's 486 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns are showcasing his touch running ability. He is an up and coming junior to watch out of Southern Wisconsin.
