Each week we will break down the state's Top 15 and give point spreads and predictions for each contest. Look for 5A to be added in the following weeks.

Sheldon @ #1 Lake Oswego (-40)

LO dropped the hammer on South Medford 40-3 in week 0 with [player_tooltip player_id='402416' first='Lamarcus' last='Bell'] back this week from injury. The Irish are traditionally one of the state's top programs but graduate a host of talent from last year with other top athletes transferring. It will be an interesting season at Sheldon.

#2 West Linn BYE

(-9.5) #3 Central Catholic OR @ Central Catholic CA

The Rams beat Central Catholic out of Modesto, California 45-29 last year. This year they travel to Cali to play a good program that currently sits at 0-2. It will be interesting to see how this CC group compares to some of Steve Pyne's state title teams.

(-1.5) #4 Tualatin @ #6 Jesuit

Maybe the game of the night. Tualatin looked great in week 0 with preseason POY candidate [player_tooltip player_id='937241' first='Cole' last='Hachmeister'] going for 130 and a couple scores in the 49-14 win over Clackamas. QB [player_tooltip player_id='402419' first='Owen' last='Hagerman'] also stepped up hitting on 9/9 passes for 252 yards and 3 TDs.

The Crusaders return one of the top LB groups in the NW and Metro League POY favorite [player_tooltip player_id='770006' first='Joe' last='Stimpson']. They have multiple D1 guys on the line as this won't be the team that lost 58-35 to Mountainside last year. I would expect this game to be decided in the final minutes.

#8 Mountainside @ #5 Lakeridge (-11)

Another potential game of the week. With all due respect to a good Nelson squad, it's hard to put into words how surprising last week's 26-21 loss was for the Pacers. I would expect the intensity to be at an all-time high for them. As referenced, it's now or never for the program.

The Mavericks have their own internal battles winning last year's Metro title in convincing fashion 58-35 over Jesuit. That said as they had numerous top athletes transfer over the off season leaving multiple question marks. Fair or unfair, much of the team's success will rest on the shoulders of D1 QB [player_tooltip player_id='1232699' first='Cade' last='Mitchell'].

(-4.5) #7 Nelson @ Timberline Boise, ID

Give Nelson all the credit in the world after beating an incredibly talented Lakeridge team last week. [player_tooltip player_id='1110921' first='Chaz' last='Katoanga'] backed up all the hype with TE [player_tooltip player_id='1660150' first='Ian' last='Nix'] catching 2 long TD passes. Also noteworthy was top 2027 recruit [player_tooltip player_id='937176' first='Malachi' last='Garlington'] who caught an 81 TD pass of his own and showed why he could be one of the top prospects in the West.

Timberline out of Boise won 61-7 in week 0 and is a solid program overall. Look for this to be a competitive ball game.

(-14.5) #9 Willamette @ South Medford

I wouldn't read too much into South's 40-3 loss against #1 Lake O last week. This will be a telling ball game for both programs with Willamette featuring a litany of D1 talent. They will need to make a statement right away if they are going to be listed as a Top 10 6A team.

Sunset @ #10 Tigard (-15.5)

The Tigers have a bunch of talented young guys led by 6-4 Jr. QB [player_tooltip player_id='937183' first='Aris' last='Dimick']. They might be a year away but should compete in the brutally tough TRL. Sunset has traditionally been one of the better programs in the Metro but continue to see kids transfer, losing by 24 to Sandy in week 0.

(-16.5) #11 Oregon City @ Grant

Look for Grant to compete in the PIL featuring the likes of [player_tooltip player_id='709506' first='Deckard' last='Hale'] and [player_tooltip player_id='914282' first='James' last='Wade'] who transferred back from Central Catholic. OC and [player_tooltip player_id='1242623' first='Cavan' last='Rogers'] beat the Generals 36-13 last year but went 1-9 on the season. That said as the record was incredibly deceptive with the Pioneer's playing maybe the toughest schedule in the state.

North Medford @ #12 Grants Pass (-4)

GP has one of the fastest rising teams in Oregon led by top QB recruit [player_tooltip player_id='796694' first='Jordan' last='Rossetta'] and an elite 2027 class. If they are going to make a run at a conference title they will need take care of business against an always solid North program and other traditional powers like Sheldon. Expect this game to be decided in the 4th quarter.

(-9) #13 Newberg @ 5A Canby

Canby got beat up 28-0 by a good 5A West Albany program last week. Expect Jimmy Joyce and his guys to bounce back and compete with a Newberg team who I have favored to win the Pacific Conference title.

(-9.5) #14 Sherwood @ Roosevelt

Most years I would say blowout before the game even started, but not this season. Ryan McCants has done an outstanding job at Roosevelt and has dudes everywhere including D1 LB/ATH [player_tooltip player_id='1112394' first='Geovoney' last='Burks']. The Bowmen are one of the most consistent programs in Oregon, but I could see this being a tough year.

#15 Sandy @ 5A Wilsonville (-3.5)

Maybe the upset of the night with 2x 5A state champ Wilsonville hosting an upstart Sandy group. The Pioneers are one of the fastest rising programs in the state and left no doubt last week in the 56-32 win over Sunset. Expect it to be close.
