Williamsville East @ McKinley

An extremely sloppy and rainy game saw a battle of the unbeatens within the A2 division. Both teams had trouble taking the snaps all game but it was McKinley's run game, as it has all year, that dominated. The Macks, led by dual threat QB [player_tooltip player_id='1742268' first='Kalaugn' last='Ford'] and newly acquired RB [player_tooltip player_id='1733083' first='Anthony' last='Moore'], ran for 230 yards and scored 4 TDs in a 28-0 route.

While his running mates are more elusive and quick on their feet, Hill is a hard nosed player in between the tackles that is tough to bring down. He only registered 5 carries but turned that in to 29 yards and 2 scores. It was on defense that he made the most noise where he was in the Flames backfield all game with several tackles for loss, a QB sack and recovered a fumble in the 4th quarter that sealed the game.

This game was Marcus Daniels coming out party and he made his presence felt immediately. He was barely on the Macks stat sheet heading into this week but when Williamsville East fumbled early in the first quarter, it was Marcus that recovered it. Later on, he had a key INT that slipped through a Flames player's hands.

You cannot watch a McKinley football game without noticing [player_tooltip player_id='1238563' first='Cardel' last='Staples']. He is one of the top athletes in Western New York and he proves it week in/week out. Being a WR/DB in a rain soaked game, it is unlikely to have much of an impact statistically but what he did was keep the momentum going with two key plays. McKinley only threw for 45 yards but 39 of those were on one play to Staples in the first quarter that led to a Macks TD. Then with under 2 minutes left to go in the game, pinned inside their own 5, Cardel came in as the team's punter a blasted a 55 yard kick that put Will East in their own territory thus making it improbable for them to score in those conditions.

I would be amiss to not mention that Staples also had 2 punt returns of 80+ yards that were called back due to holding penalties. Cardel is one of the most explosive playmakers in Section VI.

This game was not a good indication but Martis is a player that WNY should be aware of. The heavy rainfall prevented Anthony and the Flames from getting anything going but his 68 yards on just 3 completions showed he has tremendous arm strength. He is also a first year quarterback that came into week 4 off back-to-back 4 TD performances. Martis has the intangibles to to be a premiere passer in Section VI.

St. Joe's @ Canisius (JV & Varsity)

Saturday was a double header day in one of the biggest rivalries in Western New York. Canisius would have a clean sweep on this day as their JV won 21-7 and their varsity defeated the Marauders 45-28.

Players of the Game

Canisius' varsity team lives and dies by one person and that is the #1 RB in NYS [player_tooltip player_id='778700' first='Elijah' last='Kimble']. Kimble and his RB teammate [player_tooltip player_id='1345135' first='Amir' last='Hernandez'] would go on to run for roughly 500 yards combined and score 7 TDs - 6 of which were from 50+.

Noteworthy Players

St. Joe's went into halftime down 25-7 when they switched QBs. St. Joe's actually outscored Canisius in the second half 21-20 when QB [player_tooltip player_id='1811553' first='Brayden' last='Manns'] came in. Manns led the Marauders on two scoring drives where he threw two TDs to sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1514776' first='Camrhyn' last='Chinn']. A third quarter forced fumble by All State LB [player_tooltip player_id='1293300' first='David' last='Amuka'] was returned 83 yards for a score by [player_tooltip player_id='1344757' first='Davion' last='Becker']. Although St. Joe's lost, there are several players on this team that can play at a high level.

Welch separated himself from the rest on the field this day. When the Crusaders were unable to get their passing game going, they leaned on Nakhi who ran of over 100 yards and scored two of their 3 TDs in this game. He is a big physical runner that is tough to bring down.
