Each week of the 2025 season, PRZ WV will be recognizing five standout offensive linemen around the state, signifying the Great Wall of West Virginia. These five athletes demonstrated the ability to protect their quarterback and open holes for their team's running game. We'll spotlight at least one lineman from each classification with game film to spread the love for all levels of football in West Virginia at an often-forgotten but crucial position.

There was an epic battle in the trenches between Huntington and Martinsburg on Friday night in tough weather conditions that forced both teams to duke it out primarily in the running game. Both sides of the trenches saw success throughout the game, and 2026 Huntington OL [player_tooltip player_id='866258' first='Aryn' last='McPherson'] was tailor-made for this type of game. He excels in run blocking and played some bully ball in the 22-20 slugfest. McPherson's size and power set the tone up front for the Highlanders in a huge grind-it-out victory.

2027 George Washington OL [player_tooltip player_id='1616167' first='James' last='Payne'] wasn't needed in the second half of the Patriots' 45-12 thumping of Hurricane, but he put in a full day of work in the first half. Payne showcased why we consider him a Top 3 OL prospect in his class against a young and rebuilding Redskins' team, and dominated up front for a convincing halftime score. He and his fellow offensive linemen have done a great job in the first two games of the season, allowing a freshman running back to see a lot of success early on.

The Princeton Tigers dominated rival Bluefield in week two in large part due to the success along the line of scrimmage. 2027 OL [player_tooltip player_id='864598' first='Landyn' last='Moore'] proved why we consider him the top prospect in his class throughout the game, but the Tigers got great performances from every member of their line group. Moore was physical and finished blocks in the running game against an overmatched Beavers' squad, and continues to show his improvement in agility and footwork in pass pro for a complete and dominant week two performance.

Liberty may have fallen in week two in a highly contested matchup with PikeView, but 2027 OL [player_tooltip player_id='1883039' first='Jacob' last='Akers'] and his fellow linemen did a great job up front for the Raiders. Both teams saw success in the ground game, and Akers set the tone from his left guard spot. He did a great job pulling and firing out of his stance with quality quickness and was physical at the point of attack. Akers has good size in the 6'2 290 range and should be a name in the 2027 class to monitor moving forward.

Clay-Battelle has had two good performances through the first two weeks of the season and got its first win against Frontier (OH) this past week. 2027 OL [player_tooltip player_id='1615272' first='Zach' last='Gump'] and his linemen teammates set the tone up front for the Cee-Bees as they found success in both the running and passing game. Obviously, his size is what jumps out first when seeing him, and he is a rare big man athlete at the Class A level. When Gump plays with good technique and pad level, there isn't a defensive lineman at the small school level who can compete 1-on-1 with him.
