Eastmark beat Walden Grove in a tight one; every possession felt like it mattered. The Firebirds' defense tightened the screws after halftime and kept Walden Grove off the board the rest of the way, and a late interception with a three‑point lead let them salt it away. Even with a couple of busted plays in the second half, Eastmark controlled the tempo by leaning on the run game, mixing in a few well‑timed deep shots, and flipping the field when they needed to. Walden Grove didn't go quietly — their front seven created real problems — but Eastmark did just enough of the little things to walk off with the win.

Here's who stood out to me in the 4A clash:

Eastmark

You can feel his speed before you even see the ball in his hands. On one jet sweep he made three defenders miss inside the first five yards, really showing just how twitchy he is. What stood out most wasn't just the splash plays — it was how his vertical threat changed the way Walden Grove aligned. Safeties shaded deeper, corners opened their hips earlier, and that stress created room for Eastmark's run game and the intermediate crossers. He's comfortable working short and then accelerating through the catch, but he also stacks corners down the seam and makes you pay if you're late over the top. Even on snaps he didn't touch it, his presence tilted coverages and set up the rest of the offense.

The leg is real. He had a long try before halftime and another bomb late in the third that sailed wide, but the takeaway wasn't the miss — it was the juice. When a staff knows it can credibly send the kicker out from distance, it changes fourth‑down math and how you manage the two‑minute drill. His operation looked calm: clean steps, head still, and the ball jumps off his foot. In a one‑score game, that kind of field‑position and decision‑making leverage matters as much as any stat line.

Wimter was the tone‑setter. He kept churning out yards after first contact, running behind his pads with enough lateral pop to make the first defender miss and then finish forward. The value went beyond the stat line — his consistency on early downs kept Eastmark on schedule and opened up play‑action, which is when the shot plays to Cano became available. He pressed doubles patiently, cut decisively off the hip of his guard, and almost always fell north‑south. When they needed to settle the drive, he gave them steady runs that wear on a defense and shorten the game.

He was the answer to the bubble/swing game. From the outside, he tackled in space as well as anyone on the field — square, low, and through the thighs — which erased what are usually free yards. That reliability let Eastmark keep two high safeties for longer stretches without worrying about perimeter leaks. He leveraged blocks, set the edge when he had to, and didn't whiff in one‑on‑one situations. Those routine, no‑drama stops on first down are why Walden Grove kept seeing second‑and‑long.

The arm jumps off the screen. He can drive the deep dig and hit the seam, and he throws on the move with real zip — especially rolling to his right. The growth area is exactly what you expect from a young QB: situational management and ball placement on the run. There were a couple of throws he'd want back, but what impressed was how he settled in, commanded the huddle, and used his legs to steal cheap first downs when the picture wasn't clean. Big frame, competitive demeanor, and the offense clearly trusts him to take calculated shots; the ceiling here is obvious.

Walden Grove

Kinght is a real problem at the catch point. Time after time he finished through contact — strong hands, good body control, and the kind of late hands that keep DBs from timing their punches. He worked the boundary comebacks and in‑breakers, kept the chains moving, and forced Eastmark to shade help his way. Even when the ball placement wasn't perfect, he adjusted without losing stride. It wasn't a gaudy night statistically, but his physical style and reliability on contested balls were the heartbeat of Walden Grove's passing game.

Relentless. He lived in the backfield with a combination of first‑step quickness and strong hands, winning both outside and on inside counters. He collapsed edges, forced the quarterback off his spot, and spilled runs back to help. The numbers won't show how many plays he ruined by simply squeezing gaps and making the ball cut where the help was. On a night where Eastmark still found answers, Valdez's disruption was the reason nothing came easy.
