Deck’s Top 5 Big Games: Week Two

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>There were some giant offensive numbers posted during the first week of the prep season, so expectations are high for Week Two games.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Here is a look at five key matchups in Northeast Kansas for games scheduled on September 12.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Piper (1-0) @ Basehor-Linwood (1-0) – </strong>The Bobcats and Pirates will meet with their undefeated United Kansas League records on the line. Both teams came away with road victories in week one. Basehor-Linwood defeated Leavenworth 42-21, and the Pirates knocked off Seaman 33-22 to open their season. The Bobcats defeated the Pirates 48-14 last season. The winner of this game will be the front-runner to win the United Kansas League title.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1113370' first='Carson' last='Dixon'],</strong> QB, 6'3”, 180, Basehor-Linwood, ‘26</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Dixon will look to post back-to-back big weeks in the passing game. In the Bobcats' opening win, he threw for 181 yards and three touchdowns. He was an impressive 13-for-18 in pass attempts against the Pioneers. I scouted Piper last week, and the defense is fast and tough for the Pirates.  Dixon is ranked No. 65 overall by Prep Redzone Kansas.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Clay Center (1-0) @ Southeast Saline (1-0) – </strong>The Trojans opened defense of their Class 2A State Championship with a 60-21 win over Minneapolis. Clay Center will be looking for back-to-back road wins after roping the Abilene Cowboys 14-7 in the Tigers' season opener.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1403641' first='Gannon' last='Jacobson']</strong>, QB, 6'2”, 165, Southeast Saline, ‘26</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Jacobson is ranked No. 77 overall in the Kansas Class of 2026. He had a huge passing night for the Trojans last week against Minneapolis. He torched the Lions' defense for 267 yards and five touchdowns through the air.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Manhattan (1-0) @ Free State (1-0) –</strong> Manhattan and Free State are both coming off big victories. The Indians defended their home turf with a 43-13 win over Garden City. Free State knocked off Gardner-Edgerton 35-34. This game could end up playing a big role in the final postseason seeding in Class 6A.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Mclain Aslin,</strong> QB, 6'1”, 170, Manhattan, ‘28</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Aslin had a solid first start for the Indians behind center. He completed 4-of-5 pass attempts for 42 yards. He carried the ball 15 times for 100 yards and one touchdown. The young quarterback will be out to prove himself all season long.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Wamego (1-0) @ Rock Creek (1-0) – </strong>Wamego's home opener ended up being a 40-6 victory over the Concordia Panthers. The Mustangs opened their season with a lop-sided 51-0 shutout against Bishop Ward. I watched Wamego's volleyball team defeat Abilene last night, so the pressure is on for the gridiron eleven to step up.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Dominic Falco,</strong> WR, 6'2”, 225, Wamego, ‘26</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Wamego's passing attack was on point in its win over Concordia. Falco was the team's leading receiver, gaining 213 yards and finding the endzone four times. The Red Raiders finished with 332 total yards in the air. Falco is currently unranked by Prep Redzone Kansas, but a couple of more performances like his Week One effort will surely change that.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Riley County (0-1) @ Holton (0-1) – </strong>Riley County dropped a one-point game to Jefferson West in Week One. Holton also lost a road game 28-16 at Sabetha. Both teams will be searching for bounce-back games in Week Two. This is the game I plan on scouting.  I have never seen Riley County play and always expect a disciplined game from the Wildcats. Holton had four players carry the ball at least 10 times in their opening game of the season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1115789' first='Cael' last='Frazier'],</strong> LB, 6'2”, 215, Holton, ‘26</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Frazier posted solid numbers in the loss for the Wildcats. The senior linebacker is ranked No. 190 overall by Prep Redzone Kansas. He recorded six tackles, including one for lost yardage. He carried the ball 13 times for 60 yards.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
