Class 2A has been impressively tight-knit so far through 3 weeks, with only 6 undefeated teams remaining and nearly every team in the mix in the race for playoff spots which will only heat up as we reach the midpoint of the 2025 regular season. We recap what went down in Class 2A Iowa during week 3 over last weekend!

Taking on a Class 1A powerhouse at home, Underwood exploded out of the gate with a 21-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. However, Clarinda was undeterred, pulling off an improbable run over the next 3 quarters. Clarinda compiled 377 total yards of offense as they rallied with 35 unanswered points, leading with 8 and a half minutes to go. However, Underwood scored with less than 7 minutes left, got the ball back, and had an opportunity to tie the game, but a heavily erratic passing game which finished 15 of 45 over the air ultimately failed to connect as the Eagles turned the ball over on downs and never got it back. The win was an emotional one for Clarinda as they honored former 4-year starter Jase Wilmes who died in an accident back in February, and with this win, Clarinda is setting the path to be underdogs among this conference in 2025.

Two contending teams coming off rough losses in week 2 looked to rebound this week, and the battle proved to be a close one. After a 7-7 result at halftime, PCM emerging with two touchdowns in the third quarter, but the Raiders rallied in the fourth, scoring 14 points in a span of 2 minutes, taking a 21-20 lead with over 5 minutes to go. However, thanks in part to a well balanced offense and crucial penalties against the Raiders, the Mustangs engineered a time-consuming drive that concluded with a game-winning 36 yard field goal as time expired, giving PCM a critical win in their pursuit to make another deep postseason run.

Coming off a shocking upset win last week over Spirit Lake, Western Christian looked to continue their good fortune on the road against Spencer. The teams entered with the final score of the game heading into the fourth quarter. While Spencer was able to thrive on the ground with 286 total rushing yards, they were pitted with crucial mistakes, turning the ball over 4 times. Still, Spencer was able to deliver a late drive to set up a game-winning 51 yard field goal attempt. Unfortunately the kick barely missed as it hit the left upright, allowing Western Christian to hold on for another key win.

Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the week at home against a heavily favor OABCIG unit. The Nighthawks were able to completely frustrate the Falcons' offense, limiting them to just 152 yards of total offense while accumulating 4 turnovers. Despite the game being tied 6-6 at halftime, the mistakes piled up for OABCIG and the Nighthawks pulled away with 14 unanswered points in the second half. Considering that the Nighthawks had won 2 combined games over the last two seasons, they have already won 2 games within the first 3 games of this season, which is certainly signaling that it's a new era for this team.
