Athletes Fresh On Our Radar This Season

Here at Prep Redzone WI we are always on the hunt for more student athletes that should be on our radars and the radar of college coaches. There are a few times throughout the year where we see a large surge of new names. Our Showcases and summer camps bring us a ton of new athletes, but the regular season is where the list really grows. Many of these new athletes on our radar have been talked about in other articles, but there are several who caught my eyes that I haven't been able to dive into the film of, yet. So it is feels like a great time to change that and dive into athletes who made a name for themselves this season, so far, and ended up on our radar. Coaches, make sure they are also on yours! We have at least one senior through freshman included in this article. Here we go!    Just a couple weeks ago the massive DL out of Rufus King put himself on my radar. The 6'5" 280 lbs senior has piled up 15 tackles, 4 TFLs, and 8 QB Hurries through the midway point of the regular season. That elite frame is the first major upside of Jacob's game. Well filled out and supplemented with plenty of length, Jacob looks the part of a college IDL. He plays like one too, owning the line of scrimmage with his length and power. Jacob's midseason highlights show rep after rep of him either holding the line, setting the edge, or driving his man into the backfield. The senior also does really well locating the ball while engaged, and then battling to get to the gap they are trying to attack to make the stop. Take a look at Jacob's highlights below.      Justin hit my radar when he published his midseason highlights that featured his 80 yard KOR TD, 11 receptions, and 122 yards. The 2027 WR has a great build for the WR position. His 6'3" 190 lbs frame towers over DBs, giving his QB a massive catch radius to target. The big man is also turning into a heck of an athlete, highlighted by his 80 yard TD return. Justin can be a slippery runner after the catch too. He has made DBs miss one on one and also used that size to beat DBs with physicality. You have to love his willingness to block downfield in the run game too.      I love the versatility that Jonas offers as a safety. The 2027 lines up deep, in the slot, or near the edge. He is asked to be a triple threat safety. One who can roam the back half and ballhawk over the top, cover a receiver on his own, and also one that you can trust to come down in the box or off the edge and attack the run game. Jonas is a hunter at safety. As soon as he reads where the ball is going he attacks and closes quickly, making strong tackles in space. The junior also flashes RB traits, breaking tackles, running hard downhill, and relying on instincts to pick up yards as the play unfolds.      Cooper hit my radar back at the beginning of the season. The junior safety has been a weekly high impact performer with his play in the WDP secondary. Cooper dominates either dropping into a single high role or cover 2 look. He does a great job of reading the QB, baiting them when needed, and his closing speed and ball skills have helped put the offense back on the field and steal possesses all season long. Cooper has such a long frame too, yet he easily backpedals, runs, and changes direction out of his backpedal. The '27 also delivers when asked to cover slots man to man. His versatility, ball skills, size, and athleticism are strong pillars to his game. I'm excited to see where he stacks up among DBs in this Class.     Sophomore TE [player_tooltip player_id='1792046' first='Griffin' last='Boda'] is a name to ensure is on your recruiting boards. The '28 has an intriguing frame at 6'5" 185 lbs. Even at that size, the underclassman already has impressive body control that allows him to run smoothly in space. He has the speed to stretch the field up the seam. His ball skills are excellent, highlighted by an awesome one handed TD grab in the redzone. That big frame helps him thrive in those jump ball scenarios. Griffin does so well tracking and adjusting to the ball and making sure he is coming back to it when needed. Big things area ahead for Griffin. Give these highlights a look.      Just a couple weeks ago Anthony worked his way into a starting OG role for Racine Case as a freshman. The 6' 230 lbs '29 was up to the challenge and really impressed me with his highlights from the week. The building blocks that Anthony has to build on are special. He has a powerful base, quick feet that can quick set and instantly set a strong anchor in pass pro. The freshman is also very athletic for his size and age, easily getting his body in the right leverage or position to win the rep. Anthony also showed off the range to lead and kick out edge defenders. Get on this kid early.
