With the 2025 high school football season right around the corner in the Volunteer State, it's time to focus our attention on class 6A as there are a ton of outstanding programs looking to make their mark this season. Programs like Maryville, Oak Ridge, Oakland, Ravenwood, Collierville, Germantown, and Southwind are looking like top contenders for the title while sleepers like Science Hill, Riverdale, Green Hill, Bartlett, Houston, and Whitehaven also have a chance at winning it all. Without a doubt, class 6A in Tennessee is going to be packed with talent and make for some top tier football matchups this season.

Contenders

Maryville

The Red Rebels are looking like a top contender for the class 6A title this year as Maryville had an outstanding 2024-25 campaign, posting a 12-3 overall record and a flawless 5-0 mark in district competition. The Red Rebels should be just as dangerous this season as they've retained a ton of intriguing prospects that could help lead them on the field this year. Some prospects on Maryville's roster to watch are [player_tooltip player_id='284141' first='Brody' last='Smith'], [player_tooltip player_id='800786' first='Tory' last='Beaufort'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1723184' first='Will' last='Jones'].

Oak Ridge

The Wildcats also have a strong shot at the title game this year as Oak Ridge made their presence known on the field last season, recording a 9-5 overall record and a 4-0 mark in district play. Oak Ridge is also bringing back an assortment of talent to their roster this season, including [player_tooltip player_id='483481' first='Malik' last='Howard'], [player_tooltip player_id='205650' first='Blaine' last='Stansberry'], [player_tooltip player_id='331829' first='Will' last='Pressley'], and [player_tooltip player_id='866783' first='Jared' last='Bafford'].

Oakland

The Patriots are an obvious contender for the class 6A title as Oakland took down Houston last year in Chattanooga to win the championship game. The Patriots closed out the 2024-25 season with a 14-1 overall record and a 5-0 mark in district play. Oakland will be bringing back a ton of talent this year, including [player_tooltip player_id='856867' first='Craig' last='Tutt'], [player_tooltip player_id='904730' first='Velon' last='Henderson'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1281472' first='Joel' last='Wyatt'].

Ravenwood

The Raptors will definitely be shooting for the stars this season as the Raptors were one of the top programs in class 6A last season, recording a 13-1 overall record and a 5-0 record in district games. Ravenwood will definitely be a top team to watch this year due to how much talent they're bringing back into the fold this year. Some big names on the Raptors' roster to watch are [player_tooltip player_id='402540' first='Femi' last='Babalola'], [player_tooltip player_id='402559' first='Maverick' last='Chance'], [player_tooltip player_id='1610490' first='Jaylen' last='Pollard'], and [player_tooltip player_id='824735' first='Danny' last='Brown'].

Collierville

The Dragons are another team within class 6A to watch out for this season as Collierville could definitely make a run for the title. Last season, the Dragons recorded an 11-2 overall record and a 6-1 mark in district play. Collierville will have a decent shot this season due to some of the talented prospects on their roster, including [player_tooltip player_id='1285495' first='Tae' last='Walden, Jr']., [player_tooltip player_id='964631' first='Marshall' last='Smith, Jr']., [player_tooltip player_id='1246806' first='Jayden' last='Majors'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1104292' first='Cooper' last='Sherrod'].

Germantown

The Red Devils are another program to watch closely this season as Germantown could be one of the top teams to beat within class 6A. Last season, Germantown posted a 7-5 overall record and a 4-3 record in district competition. The Red Devils should be even more of a threat this season due to the prospects they have returning for another season. Some players on Germantown's roster to watch are [player_tooltip player_id='425182' first='Andre' last='Amos, Jr']., [player_tooltip player_id='1113841' first='Tre'von' last='McGory'], [player_tooltip player_id='1285551' first='Djidjou' last='Bah'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1285554' first='Carter' last='Boothe'].

Southwind

The Jaguars could also upset the natural order this season as Southwind is looking to build on last season's success. Southwind recorded a 10-2 overall record and a 4-1 mark in district play last year. Southwind could be just as strong this season as multiple players are returning. It's worth watching out for [player_tooltip player_id='480742' first='Kelvin' last='Perkins'], [player_tooltip player_id='854363' first='Charles' last='Sullins'], [player_tooltip player_id='1159814' first='Antonio' last='Keefer'], and [player_tooltip player_id='378854' first='Chris' last='Campbell'].

Sleepers

Science Hill

The Hilltoppers are one of several sleepers within class 6A that I believe has a chance at making a run for the title as Science Hill made great strides last season, recording an 8-3-1 overall record and a 4-1 mark in district games last season. Science Hill will also be bringing back a ton of talent this year, including [player_tooltip player_id='1577633' first='Lane' last='Clement'], [player_tooltip player_id='491463' first='Aiden' last='Perry'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1690176' first='Brayden' last='Austin'].

Riverdale

The Warriors are another team in class 6A that should not be slept on this season as Riverdale made their presence known last year, posting a 10-3 overall record and a 4-1 record in district play. Riverdale has a strong chance of upsetting some of the top teams as the Warriors are bringing back a ton of talent to their roster. It's worth watching out for [player_tooltip player_id='378857' first='Hudson' last='Fuqua'], [player_tooltip player_id='1151463' first='Ayden' last='Emmons'], [player_tooltip player_id='1103005' first='Corben' last='Reynolds'], and [player_tooltip player_id='904747' first='Dre' last='Otey'].

Green Hill

The Hawks are another sleeper to keep an eye on this season as Green Hill was no stranger to success last year, recording a 10-1 overall record and a flawless 6-0 mark in district games. Green Hill has also retaining a number of key players that could make a huge difference for the Hawks this year. Some player on the roster to watch are [player_tooltip player_id='964976' first='Kannon' last='Burroughs'], [player_tooltip player_id='981349' first='Ethan' last='Harris'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1610497' first='Omeiza' last='Daniyan'].

Bartlett

The Panthers are looking to continue to build off last year's progression as Bartlett closed out the 2024-25 season with a 7-4 overall record and a 5-2 mark in district competition. The Panthers should be able to be even more explosive on the field this year and are bringing back some of their top prospects, including [player_tooltip player_id='1368048' first='Dylan' last='Shannon'], [player_tooltip player_id='1370886' first='Jaibriel' last='Bowers'], and [player_tooltip player_id='906615' first='Shelvy' last='Clark'].

Houston

The Mustangs have a solid chance at upsetting the natural order this season as Houston has been the team to beat in the playoffs. Last season, Houston recorded a 12-3 overall record and a 6-1 mark in district games. Houston also punched their ticket to the championship game last year, falling short to Oakland in Chattanooga. The Mustangs could have a chance this year as they are bringing back important prospects like [player_tooltip player_id='829107' first='Marcelles' last='Davis'], [player_tooltip player_id='1093180' first='Jiles' last='Bryant'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1620473' first='Jonas' last='Jimerson'].

Whitehaven

The Tigers are another sleeper team in class 6A to watch out for this season as Whitehaven will be looking to improve from last year. In the 2024-25 campaign, Whitehaven recorded a 6-4 overall record and a 4-3 mark in district play. I believe the Tigers will be a more efficient ball club this season as they bring back an assortment of talent that can help them on the field. Some players on Whitehaven's roster to watch are [player_tooltip player_id='402564' first='Terrance' last='Whitley'], [player_tooltip player_id='1162375' first='Cory' last='House'], [player_tooltip player_id='1431775' first='Christopher' last='Talley'], and [player_tooltip player_id='866727' first='Corey' last='Jenkins Jr.']
