These “Power 5” edge rushers have separated themselves from the rest of the state with their rare blend of size, speed, and strength. Each one brings versatility in every sense—able to rush the passer, set the edge against the run, and even drop into coverage when needed. They're explosive off the snap, physically dominant, and possess the kind of athleticism that makes offensive coordinators lose sleep. Simply put, these are the elite game-wreckers you build a defense around.

[player_tooltip player_id='1159997' first='Jace' last='McCallum'] has one of the fastest get-offs you'll see on film. The 6'4”, 225-pound Vanderbilt commit from Hickory Ridge is a nightmare for offensive lines, consistently crashing the pocket with power and speed. Despite his team playing from behind for much of last season, McCallum still racked up 12 sacks, including a dominant 3-sack performance in the season opener. This year, expect him to come out just as hot, with a real chance to be near the top of the state in sack totals. He's a true SEC-caliber athlete and one of the most disruptive defenders in North Carolina.

[player_tooltip player_id='648670' first='Keysaun' last='Eleazer'] from Southeast Raleigh is a physical freak of nature. The Stanford commit stands nearly 6'6” and just over 200 pounds, and the moment you see him, the word “athlete” comes to mind. His quickness off the edge is unmatched at the high school level, consistently beating tackles with speed, length, and burst. The scary part? His game projects to translate seamlessly to the next level. Think James Pearce Jr. when you watch him play—tremendous upside, elite tools, and the potential to be a dominant force for years to come.

[player_tooltip player_id='1601648' first='Kalum' last='Stewart'] is a brute, versatile, all-out football player. Lining up primarily at edge, he not only excels as a pass rusher but also has the ability to drop into coverage and lock down the flats. At 6'0”, 225 pounds, Stewart plays with a powerful, physical style and the motor to impact every snap. His skill set projects well to the strong-side outside linebacker role at the next level, but his pass-rushing ability makes him a major asset for any college program. A true weight room warrior and difference-maker, Stewart is the kind of player who changes games.

[player_tooltip player_id='1408773' first='Tyler' last='Powell'] is one of the most versatile and intriguing athletes in the state. For the past two seasons, he's pulled double duty as both the starting edge rusher and quarterback for the defending (formerly 1A) state champion Tarboro Vikings. While his future at the next level is primarily at edge, where his explosiveness and natural pass-rushing ability can truly shine, his high school role has showcased just how valuable and adaptable he is. Powell's potential is sky-high, and because he's asked to do so much for Tarboro, it's hard to even put a true ceiling on his game. Once he focuses solely on defense, expect his full talent to be unleashed.
