The Toledo City League has always been about grit, speed, and playmakers who rise to the occasion under Friday night lights. This fall, several athletes are ready to keep that tradition alive while making names for themselves across Ohio. Here are four City League standouts to keep an eye on:

Janiaus Hall – QB – Lima Senior – Class of 2026
No quarterback in the City League was more dangerous than Hall last fall. He threw for a staggering 4,434 yards and 58 touchdowns while adding another 156 yards on the ground. At just 5'10”, 160 pounds, Hall makes up for his size with elite accuracy and command of the offense. If he replicates his 2024 numbers, he'll go down as one of the most prolific passers in league history.

[player_tooltip player_id='1178348' first='Jonah' last='Tall'] – RB/CB – Start – Class of 2026
Tall has been a two-way contributor since his sophomore year, and his junior season showed why he's one of the most versatile players in the City. He rushed for 898 yards and scored 15 touchdowns, while also locking down on defense as a cornerback. With speed and shiftiness, Tall gives Start a game-changer on both sides of the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id='1057121' first='Marvon' last='Thompson'] – WR/DB – Start – Class of 2026
Thompson might be the most explosive playmaker in the league. He caught 34 passes for 554 yards and nine touchdowns last fall while also earning first-team All-City honors as a defensive back. His ability to flip games with a single big play makes him one of the most exciting athletes in the area.

Josiah Barnett – DB – Scott – Class of 2026
Barnett was a ballhawk last season, picking off six passes — two of which he returned for touchdowns. At 5'11”, 167 pounds, he plays bigger than his frame and isn't afraid to get physical in coverage. Named to both All-City and All-District first teams, Barnett is the tone-setter for Scott's defense and a player opposing quarterbacks will try to avoid in 2025.
