On Saturday, May 3 I was fortunate enough to be invited to cover You Are Athlete's New Jersey Regional Exposure Camp. This event had a double session that features middle schoolers first and high schoolers second. As is customary whenever I attend an event, the first thing I take note of are the prospects that have the clear, physical measurables to immediately compete at the next, immediate level of play – also known as the eye test.

Below are my scouting notes from the position group mentioned in this article's title.

Be sure to follow me on Twitter for the latest updates in New Jersey high school football.

A strong crop of wide receivers was led today by one who traveled the furthest - across international borders to be exact - with Nova Scotia's Payton Flint. Flint profiles as a more physical-type wide receiver. Given how large he is and how he uses his body to best position himself to get in between the ball and his defender, at one point I remarked that Flint might be best suited to play tight end. A play that Flint made which truly impressed me was how he fought through an egregious defensive hold committed against him to win the route and secure the catch through serious contact... Before we shift gears to the Jersey prospects, we close out coverage of the out-of-state prospects with Kierre Stewart. A Philly product, Stewart was shifty and dynamic - particularly from the slot. His agility and ability to change direction allowed him to create outstanding two-way releases on both in- and out-breaking routes. His ability to do so, plus his build, had me remark that he actually might made a pretty good tailback.

If there is one thing I commend about prospects, it is their tendency and commitment to never give up on plays. This is exactly how [player_tooltip player_id='1685608' first='Keshawn' last='Jackson'] approaches the game of football. Jackson found himself competing on every rep, throughout every part of the route, until the play was blown dead. This included things like fighting and clawing his way for leverage and positioning, as well as his right to the ball. I also thought Jackson moved well, particularly when running underneath routes that required a great deal of agility... If there was one receiver I could say was lovin' it, it would have to be [player_tooltip player_id='1685609' first='Brandon' last='McDonald']. In situations when he found himself outrunning the quarterback's arm, McDonald did an excellent job fighting back to the ball to secure the grab. McDonald also showed qualities indicative of being a solid possession receiver with strong hands. I noticed him extending his arms on passes in front of him, clutching the ball like pearls, as they stuck to his hands like glue. With his firm, vice grip and full extension, McDonald looks like he was having defenders play with a Happy Meal toy as he played keep away.

[player_tooltip player_id='910147' first='Eric' last='Berg III'] did something similar to that of McDonald too. Still just a sophomore, Berg also extends his arms and hands for the catch. For him, the 2027 graduate seemed to do so in more of a manner in line with the ideology that "the best place for the ball is in my hands, as soon as possible."... In a similar sense, [player_tooltip player_id='1685610' first='Stephen' last='Little'] did the same thing. With little margin for error on speed outs, Little extended his upper body in order to take away defender's attempts to undercut the pass attempts of his paired quarterback.

You Are Athlete New Jersey Regional Exposure Camp Coverage

Eye Test, Middle School
Defensive Backs, Middle School
Defensive Backs, Middle School, Part 2
Defensive Linemen, Middle School
Linebackers, Middle School
Offensive Linemen, Middle School
Quarterbacks, Middle School
Receivers, Middle School
Running Backs, Middle School
Running Backs, Middle School, Part 2
Eye Test, High School
Defensive Backs, High School
Defensive Line, High School
Linebackers, High School
Offensive Linemen, High School
Quarterbacks, High School
Quarterbacks, High School, Part 2
Receivers, High School
Receivers, High School, Part 2
Running Backs, High School
