On Saturday, May 10th, 2025 I was welcomed back for the third year in a row to cover Coach Nick Pennisi‘s PSR Big Camp Series hosted at Monroe High School in Monroe, New Jersey. As I have come to expect, this event was packed with participation, loaded with talent, and ran extremely well.

Different than other events, Pennisi opted to have three different check-in times, based on position groupings. This afforded me the opportunity to get a closer look at many of the prospects in attendance. Below are just some of my notes on the position group mentioned in this article's title.

Kicking off today's coverage are two defensive backs out of Depaul's secondary - both from the class of 2026. [player_tooltip player_id='1695319' first='Patrick' last='Maignan'] is a name that I have not yet come across. I had noted that he is more of a linebacker/rolled down safety type at the event; after conferring with the roster post-event, this belief likely manifested from his 5'9" 195lb frame. All things considered, Maignan ran well and was able to stay in his backpedal for an extended period of time, meaning that he keeps things in front of him well. Maignan's eyes were active, alternating keying between the receiver and the quarterback. The result of active eyes and a prolonged backpedal? Great breaks on the ball... Fluency in breaks is something that teammate [player_tooltip player_id='1277091' first='Christopher' last='Newman Jr']. also possessed. Although I have covered and seen Newman live at other events, I wish I got more of a look at his at this one.

Two New Yorkers are up next. First, [player_tooltip player_id='820046' first='Ian' last='Williams'] from Holy Trinity showed some promising attributes. Williams did an outstanding job of being physical with his matchup through all phases of their route. Furthermore, as the ball arrived Williams forced the issue with contact and played at the ball until it was jarred loose... For [player_tooltip player_id='1365209' first='Aiden' last='Barnes'], an Elmont Memorial product, he was quite the opportunist. Barnes made an outstanding reactionary play on a total duck that was throw. This ball was dead as soon as it left the quarterback's hand and Barnes took advantage of the receiver having his back to the ball because he was still getting out of his route for an easy pick.

Closing out is a South Jersey guy out a program who always produces dudes. [player_tooltip player_id='1695320' first='Lenhart' last='Taylor'] from Cedar Creek might be the next Pirate we will be writing incessantly about for the next few seasons. Still just a 2027 graduate, Taylor proved extremely difficult to cross-face as receivers ran their routes due to how well he drove on the ball/those routes. This ability effectively eliminated any in-breaking routes. His reactions on out-breaking routes were solid, albeit not as elite as when he was faced with in-breaking routes; however, he did a nice job of extending himself to break those passes up.
