Preseason Review - Waco (University) Trojans

University (Waco) is led by head coach Charles Foster, who guided the Trojans to a 7-4 overall record and a 3-2 finish in district play last season. Heading into 2025, the Trojans are looking to take it up a notch and build on the momentum they created. With a strong returning core and added experience on both sides of the ball, expectations are higher this year. Defensively, the Trojans aim to tighten things up, especially in late game situations, while offensively, their playmakers will look to be more explosive and consistent in key drives. Keandre is an underrated wide receiver who deserves more recognition. He's a reliable target with the ability to create separation and make plays after the catch. His work ethic, consistency, and ability to come through in key moments make him a serious threat.      London, a Baylor commit at wide receiver, is a polished and explosive pass catcher who brings size, speed, and physicality to the position. He runs crisp, deliberate routes and knows how to set up defenders with subtle head fakes and footwork. What sets him apart is his ability to track the deep ball in stride and go up strong in contested catch situations he plays above the rim like a true go-to target.   London has strong hands, rarely body-catching, and shows the ability to make tough grabs in traffic. After the catch, he turns into a physical runner, using his strength and vision to pick up extra yards. He's not just a vertical threat he can work all three levels of the field and consistently moves the chains in key moments.      Jimare is a wide receiver who's poised to take off this year. He's shown flashes of big-play potential and looks ready to turn the corner into a consistent, go-to threat for his offense. With smooth route running, quick acceleration off the line, and reliable hands, Jimare has all the tools to become a breakout player.      Justin is a tight end with a high ceiling and an offer from Arkansas State a clear sign that his talent is being recognized at the next level. He brings a strong blend of size, athleticism, and toughness to the position, making him a reliable target in the passing game and a valuable asset in the run game.   What stands out in Justin's game is his versatility. He can line up with his hand in the dirt, split out wide, or motion across the formation and still be effective. He runs clean routes for a player his size and shows natural hands when securing catches, especially in traffic. As a blocker, he's physical at the point of attack and plays with effort setting the edge and finishing blocks downfield.      Joaquin is a linebacker who plays with heart, speed, and instinct. He had 77 solo tackles, 43 assist , and 120 total tackles along with 111.0 TFL. He's a downhill defender who's quick to diagnose plays and doesn't hesitate to fill gaps or chase down ball carriers from sideline to sideline. What makes Joaquin stand out is his ability to stay locked in on assignments while still flying around and making impact plays.   Whether it's slipping through blocks, delivering clean tackles, or dropping back in coverage when needed, he brings versatility and toughness to the linebacker spot.      Davontrae is a defensive back with a natural feel for the game and a knack for making plays in space. He shows great awareness in coverage, reading quarterbacks well and reacting quickly to routes developing in front of him. Whether he's playing man or zone, Davontrae stays disciplined with his technique and rarely gets caught out of position.   What really stands out is his ability to close quickly on the ball he breaks on passes with confidence and isn't afraid to challenge receivers at the catch point.      Laquan Hughes is a linebacker who made a big impact with 83 total tackles, showing his ability to consistently get involved and make plays all over the field. He's a relentless defender who attacks the line of scrimmage with energy and discipline, wrapping up ball carriers effectively and finishing plays strong.   Laquan's instincts and pursuit angles help him diagnose plays quickly, whether it's against the run or dropping into coverage. Ronald's ability to shed blocks and make tackles for loss consistently puts pressure on opposing quarterbacks and running backs. DeMitri, a dominant defensive lineman, already holds offers from Texas State, Houston, and Texas Tech and he's just getting started. Armando is a young offensive lineman in the Class of 2028 who's focused on taking his game to the next level. With a strong foundation already in place, he's using every rep and opportunity to sharpen his technique, improve his strength. Armando has potential to become a soild OL.     Leroy is a defensive lineman with raw power and a relentless motor. He thrives in the trenches, using his quick get off and physicality to disrupt plays in the backfield. Whether it's collapsing the pocket or shutting down the run, Leroy is determined to make an impact every snap. As he continues to develop, he's positioning himself as a force to watch on the defensive front.      University High School heads into the 2025 season with high expectations. After a strong 2024 campaign, the Trojans are focused on building off that success and making a deeper push in district play.
