Preseason Preview- Why Williamson (5A) Will Dominate In 2025

Folks, it is July 9th.   We are just a few weeks away from kicking off the 2025 season! With that being the case, it's time for us here on the site to start looking at different rosters around the state.   One school that has seriously caught my attention this offseason has been Williamson (5A). After a 10-2 season last fall where they ultimately suffered an unfortunate loss to Central Clay County in the postseason, Williamson is set up to rebound and have a huge year this upcoming fall.   Let's get started with their offense:   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">OFFENSE</h2>   Offensively, Williamson has a high-flying passing attack that can air the ball out downfield at will. Senior QB [player_tooltip player_id='1624913' first='Alvin' last='Dinkins'] and WRs [player_tooltip player_id='1621639' first='John' last='Austin'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1624918' first='Keith' last='Donald'] seriously stood out to me earlier this spring:    “Dinkins plays with a ton of confidence- he's excellent navigating the pocket, is great under pressure, and has impressive arm talent he uses to put the ball anywhere on the field. Dinkins has a strong arm and great accuracy; he can push the ball downfield, is great at leading and hitting his WRs in stride, and has excellent ball placement on some really tough-to-throw passes.   I'm most impressed with Dinkin's ability to extend plays- he is excellent at evading defenders and seeing the field while on the move. He frequently finds his way out of sacks and can deliver clutch throws when plays look dead.”   Dinkins ended his junior year completing 139/219 passing attempts for 1936 yards and 11 TDs to only 5 INTs, with 43 carries for 161 yards and 4 TDs on the ground.    With how well he's played, Dinkins has received offers from Alabama A&M, Jackson State, and others.   Check out some of Dinkins' tape below:      "At 6'0 180, Austin has great size and athleticism at the position- he moves really well out wide, is a talented route runner, and can easily gain separation from defenders at multiple levels of the field. Austin might have some of the best body control in the state- he consistently puts himself in great position to haul in some ridiculous catches.   Austin is also a problem in the open field. He has a lot of twitch and speed he uses to make defenders miss and rack up additional yards after the catch, constantly finding ways to create with the ball in his hands."   Last month, Austin committed to Alabama A&M! He'll thrive there- he's bringing a ton of talent and will be a playmaker in their WR room over the next few years.   Check out some of Austin's tape below:      "Donald is incredibly versatile and can hurt secondaries in a ton of different ways. He's excellent with the ball in his hands and makes explosive plays off screens, quick passes, and as a deep threat. Donald is great at finding separation; he's a talented route runner who consistently beats defenders everywhere on the field with his speed and quickness.   Donald also has a set of really consistent and reliable hands that help him secure some really tough-to-catch passes- he fights off defenders for the ball, making catches through coverage/contact, down the sideline, and deep downfield for huge gains/scoring plays."   A few weeks back, Donald committed to North Alabama! I'm excited to watch him over the next few years- he's got a ton of potential at the next level.   Check out some of his tape below:     <h2 class="wp-block-heading">DEFENSE</h2>   While Williamson has a very talented and explosive offense, teams around the state should be terrified of their defense this upcoming fall. They have a dominant set of pass rushers, lockdown DBs, and a LB corp I'd put up against any team in the state.    Scott is a hybrid safety who flies around the field to dominate opposing rushing and passing attacks. He plays with a ton of speed and instincts out in coverage- he isn't easily baited, doesn't let anyone get behind him, and has the ball skills to easily create INTs and PBUs   Scott is also dominant against the run. He flies downhill from the secondary to wrap up and take down RBs near the line of scrimmage and in the open field to prevent huge plays. It's super impressive seeing how well-rounded Scott already is as a sophomore- he has an incredibly bright future ahead.   Last season, Scott recorded 107 total tackles (41 solo, 2 for loss), 4 INTs, 12 PBUs, and one FF.   A few weeks ago, Scott flipped from Florida State to Auburn! It's going to be exciting watching him in his junior season; he's set up for a huge year.   Check out his film below:      “Bush is highly athletic and plays with a ton of speed, power, and pursuit- he has a great first step/burst off the line of scrimmage, a ton of different pass rush moves he uses to beat OTs, and a motor he uses to make plays against the run and pass all game long.   Bush is a force off the edge- he constantly gets into the backfield to generate tons of pressure, force bad decisions, and rack up sacks. Bush is also great at stopping the run- he has great pursuit and closing speed, can fight off blockers, and is a reliable tackler that prevents big gains.“   Bush was dominant up front for Williamson's defense last fall, ending his junior year with 72 total tackles (39 solo, 33 assisted, and 27 for loss), 13 sacks, 12 hurries, and 3 PBUs.   A little while back, Bush committed to Troy, giving them a dominant instate DL in their 2026 class.   Check out some of Bush's tape below:      "Brown is a star in the making. He has great size and plays with tons of speed, leverage, and strength to work around offensive linemen and create huge stops in the backfield. Brown is an every-down threat who dominates the run and can rush the passer really well.   Brown is extremely disruptive. He explodes off the snap, can fight off multiple blockers, and has the motor to make some incredible hustle plays. His pursuit and closing speed are super impressive to watch- it's super difficult for offensive lines to contain him."   Brown ended his freshman season with 90 total tackles (46 solo, 29 for loss), 10 sacks, 20 hurries, 3 fumble recoveries, and one INT.   Only heading into his sophomore year, Brown has picked up offers from Texas A&M, Baylor, and several other top-tier P4 programs.   Check out some of Brown's film below:      "McCree makes some terrific plays on the ball. He routinely baits opposing quarterbacks into bad passes and capitalizes by either breaking them up or picking them off.   In addition to his play against the pass, McCree does a lot in run support as well- he's a physical player who doesn't shy away from contact and can wrap up and deliver huge hits to the ball carrier.“   A few weeks ago, McCree committed to Appalachian State! He's a big addition to their 2026 class – I'm really excited to see what he'll do this fall and at the next level.   Check out some of McCree's film below:      "[player_tooltip player_id='1127636' first='Ellis' last='McGaskin']<a href="https://prepredzone.com/player/ellis-mcgaskin/"></a> is a highly athletic linebacker out of Williamson that has been outstanding through his first two seasons. McGaskin plays with tons of speed, strength, and relentless pursuit that make him a massive threat to opposing offenses.   McGaskin can track down and tackle skill players with great ease, no matter where he initially lines up- he has the speed to make sideline-to-sideline plays and does so at a constant rate."   Last season, McGaskin recorded 130 total tackles (21 for loss), 4 sacks, and multiple PBUs and FFs.   A few weeks ago, McGaskin committed to Notre Dame! He's only heading into his junior season, but I won't be surprised if national recruiting services start looking at McGaskin as one of the best LBs in the country- he's that good.   Check out some of McGaskin's film below:     <h2 class="wp-block-heading">SUMMARY</h2>   Williamson is going to be a FUN watch this fall. They have so much talent, experience, and depth on both sides of the ball- it's hard to see any holes in their current roster. When you really look at this team, it's hard to say there's a single team in the 5A let alone the entire state that could match up with them.   Everyone- watch out for this group this fall. We have an exciting season in store from this group.
