Independence Day Musings (Free Report)

In this article:
I have always wanted to use the word "musing."
Happy Independence Day, Prep Redzone Nation.
Sports and history have always been my passion.
I have taught US History at three different levels, coached three different sports, and yes, I contribute to three Prep Network Kansas websites.
As I continue to heal up from my second round of fighting against COVID, I thought I would add a little history with my scouting report today in honor of Independence Day.
Here is a look at five ranked Kansas football athletes. You will pick up on the theme.
The Battle of Trenton took place after George Washington crossed the Delaware River. The modern-day battle of Trenton is over which college will get Kern's services. The Great Bend linebacker is ranked No. 6 overall in the recently updated Class of 2026 rankings. He is a hard-nosed central Kansas kid with a great work ethic. He has never met a ballcarrier he didn't want to chop down like a Cherry Tree, wink, wink!

Scott is a gunslinging quarterback who has a larger arsenal of weapons than the legendary General Winfield Scott. The elder Scott is one of the more underrated generals in American History, as he was too young to make headlines in the War of 1812, and too old to take the field during the Civil War. Thundering Scott does not care what field he takes to show off his accurate and big right gun. Scott is ranked No. 17 overall by Prep Redzone Kansas and is the second-highest ranked quarterback in the Class of 2026.

Carson is an offensive lineman out of Burlington to watch! This Wildcat big man plows the path for Burlington backs like Mule Teams once plowed the Kansas Plains. He has solid leverage and is as strong as Paul Bunyan's Ox, Babe. He's hauled more freight than the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway did back in its heyday! Seriously, I can keep going. Bottom line: college coaches, go check out this big dude!

This young man from Lawrence might have the coolest name in Kansas. I don't know the origins of his name, but how more American can it get than having your name connected to Samuel Colt and actor Tim Curry? Okay, Curry is from England, so maybe Colt Murray, after Bill Murray, would be a hair better. The Lawrence QB is no day-actor; he is the real deal with an explosive arm and high pocket IQ. He is ranked No. 31 overall in the Kansas Class of 2027.

Here is another Kansas quarterback that shares a name with an American Icon. No, it's not former U. S. President Gerald Ford, but the automobile magnate Henry Ford. The Rose Hill prospect is a well-oiled machine that, like all Ford products, only gets better with age. He is ranked No. 44 overall by Prep Redzone Kansas.
