The Hominy Bucks came into the 2024 football season as a top five team but they were coming off back to back 13-1 seasons that came up short in the semifinals. And more importantly, they lost a terrific quarterback so the Bucks were going to look completely different when the 2024 season kicked off. But the combination of talented returners plus the split in Class A made the Bucks still one of the top teams to watch in 2024. They opened the season with a 2-1 record after a tough loss to rival Pawhuska but took care of business in the other two non-district games. All eyes were on their week six showdown with Woodland on the road. They played an instant classic in 2023 but the Cougars would take care of business, beating Hominy 34-14. Of course, they went on to win the district championship and ultimately the Class A-2 state championship. The Bucks wouldn't lose the rest of the way in the regular season. They closed out the year with an 8-2 record. They beat Central (Sallisaw) in the first round with ease but dropped a close game in the quarterfinals, falling to Thomas 20-14. We weren't sure what to think of the Bucks in 2024 but they showed that they are becoming a program that just reloads and it's never a situation where they have to rebuild. So now, as we start looking ahead to the 2025 football season, there's no reason to think that the Bucks can't reload again for another run.

2025 OUTLOOK

Hominy comes into this season as a top five team in Class A-2 and there should be a lot of reason for optimism as they kick off the season. Seven starters are back on the offensive side of the ball and that was a unit that averaged a little over 30 points per game. We think that number will go up in 2025 because of the talent and firepower they bring back on offense. First off, the quarterback returns and he is going to be one of the more dynamic playmakers in Class A-2. That's a good starting point. As we saw last season, a strong and athletic quarterback can help carry a team to a state championship in Class A-2. Hominy has that guy returning this season. But he's not alone. The Bucks are going to be able to attack opponents with multiple players on the ground. Defensively, Hominy also brings back seven starters from last year's team. And like the offense, we think that this unit will be improved as well. They gave up a little over 15 points per game but they will need some new faces to step up on the line of scrimmage. But when you look everywhere else, the Bucks are going to have some very talented players. The schedule will be the same as we saw in 2024. The Bucks will be challenged right out of the gate in non-district play. The annual rivalry clash with Pawhuska will be the early marquee game. But all eyes will be on that week six showdown with Woodland. Hominy and Woodland are without a doubt the favorites to win this district. And whoever wins the district is going to have a really strong shot at making a run to Edmond.

Senior [player_tooltip player_id='858870' first='Blaine' last='Hipp'] returns for his second season as QB1 in the Hominy offense. Last season, Hipp moved over to quarterback from wide receiver and became one of the better dual-threat quarterbacks in Class A-2. He would throw for more than 2,100 yards and he also ran for 14 touchdowns. This season, it wouldn't be surprising to see him throw for 20 touchdowns and add 20 touchdowns on the ground. He's a big and athletic quarterback that has the abilities to lead Hominy to a state championship. And he wasn't just a playmaker on offense. He also started as a linebacker and recorded nearly 100 tackles.

Junior [player_tooltip player_id='1709320' first='Jase' last='Parks'] returns on the defensive side of the ball and it's safe to say that he had a breakout season in 2024. Looking back at some of our notes from this time last year, Parks wasn't on our radar but he quickly became one of Hominy's top defenders last season. Parks finished the year with five interceptions and was among the team's leaders. We mentioned earlier how Hominy's defense has the potential to really take a step in the right direction and having a player like Parks, who should be playing with more confidence this season, will be a big key to that happening.

Sophomore all purpose standout [player_tooltip player_id='1709321' first='Malakhy' last='Harris'] is another player that enjoyed a breakout season last fall. Harris did it as a freshman and so it's easy to say he was under the radar because he hadn't played varsity ball yet. But all Harris did was total over 800 all purpose yards as a freshman to get everyone's attention. Harris will line up at running back, wide receiver and he'll play safety on the defensive side of the ball. No matter where Harris is lined up, he's a threat to make something happen on offense. Last season, he was just scratching the surface on what he can be.

Senior [player_tooltip player_id='1709318' first='Randee' last='Goodeagle'] returns to join Hipp in the Hominy backfield. Last season, Goodeagle would emerge as a solid threat in the Hominy running game. He'll take the field this season after running for well over 600 yards last season. And at 6'1 and over 200 pounds, Goodeagle is a problem for undersized defenders in a one on one situation. Between Goodeagle and Hipp, the Bucks have a lot of size and athleticism in their backfield. And don't overlook the impact that Goodeagle can have on the defensive side of the ball. He'll play linebacker for the Bucks this season.

2025 SCHEDULE

Sept. 4th - AT Cleveland
- Once again, Hominy opens the season against nearby Cleveland. The Bucks will open the 2025 season on the road and they'll look to continue their winning streak over the Tigers. They won 21-6 last season and it was their fourth straight win. Prior to that, they were 4-13 since 2004.
Sept. 12th - Pawhuska
- The annual rivalry clash with Pawhuska takes place in week two and the Bucks will host the Huskies. This match-up features two top five teams in Class A-1 and Class A-2 so it should be one of the top games of the week. Hominy fell 46-24 last year and it snapped a two-game win streak in the series.
Sept. 19th - AT Pawnee
- Hominy will wrap up their non-district schedule with another tough contest against Pawnee on the road. Last season, the Bucks won 43-32 and that was their third consecutive win over the Black Bears. And this has been a series of streaks. Prior to Hominy's three-game win streak, Pawnee had one of their own.
Sept. 26th - Summit Christian
- The district slate will open up in week four with a home game against Summit Christian. This is another series in which the Bucks have had plenty of success historically. They beat Summit Christian 41-14 last season and it was their eighth win in the last nine meetings. Last year was the first meeting since 2017.
Oct. 3rd - AT Ketchum
- Hominy goes back on the road in week five to square off with Ketchum. Hominy's new district was full of new opponents last season and Ketchum was another one. The Bucks beat Ketchum 48-20. Prior to last season, their last meeting on the field was in the 2014 playoffs.
Oct. 10th - Woodland
- The biggest game of the year kicks off the second half of the regular season when Hominy hosts Woodland in week six. The Bucks fell to the Cougars 34-14 last season and Woodland went on to win the state title. The winner of this game will more than likely capture the district championship.
Oct. 16th - AT Fairland
- Fairland was another new district opponent for Hominy in 2024. Prior to last season, the only other times these two teams met in the last two decades was in the playoffs. Hominy won both meetings. The Bucks will go to Fairland on a Fall Break Thursday night to face off with the Owls.
Oct. 24th - Porter
- In week eight, Hominy will host Porter and this will be the last home game during the regular season for the Bucks. Last year, Hominy was slated to go to Porter but the game was forfeited by the Pirates. Porter was a new district opponent for Hominy. These two teams hadn't met since 2017.
Oct. 31st - AT Barnsdall
- On a Halloween night in week nine, the Bucks will go on the road to face Barnsdall. Last season was their first meeting since 2019. They met for almost all of the last decade but hadn't met since 2019. The Bucks rolled to a 41-6 victory last year and they've won nine of the last ten meetings.
Nov. 7th - AT Afton
- The Bucks will wrap up their regular season with another road game, this time in northeastern Oklahoma against Afton. Hominy rolled to a 42-8 victory over Afton last season. It was the first time these two teams met since the 2016 semifinals. Hominy won and captured the state title the following week.

NOTABLE

There is no debate that Hominy has been one of the more consistent small school programs in Oklahoma and that consistency has lasted decades. In 2024, the Bucks would punch their ticket to the playoffs for the 27th consecutive season. There are only a handful of schools that have longer active playoff streaks in the state right now. And with the split in Class A, Hominy immediately became one of the handful of teams in the new Class A-2 that looked like they could be a contender, year after year. But it is interesting to see what will happen with the Bucks moving forward. They have 27 consecutive playoff appearances but during this streak, they've won two state championships. There is no doubt that Hominy is a community that loves their football program. Playoffs are the expectation and contending for the state title as well. But the split in Class A has opened the door for the Bucks to start making more championship game appearances and they are hungry to start taking advantage of that.
