The Heritage Hall Chargers came into the 2024 season looking to contend once again for the state championship after making two straight appearances in the title game. They won it all in 2022 and had to settle for silver in 2023. The 2024 campaign opened with a rematch of that 2023 state championship game against Lincoln Christian. The Chargers fell 28-20. From there, they didn't lose again in the regular season. There was a close game against Millwood to finish off non-district play but then they would shift their focus to keeping their lengthy district winning streak intact, on their way to another district championship. They took care of business in dominant fashion, with the exception of back to back close games against Plainview (went to overtime) and then Pauls Valley (won 41-36) but they would capture yet another district championship. The Chargers opened the postseason with a 43-20 victory over Seminole. They hosted Holland Hall in the quarterfinals and beat the Dutch 43-21, setting up a semifinal rematch with rival Lincoln Christian. For the second time in 2024, the Chargers came up short to the Bulldogs. The season came to an end with a 32-21 loss as Lincoln Christian would go on to win a second straight state championship. The season came to an end at 11-2 but it was another 10+ win season and another district championship. But there's no doubt that Heritage Hall is ready to make another run at competing for the state championship in 2025.

2025 OUTLOOK

The expectations remain the same for Heritage Hall as they prepare to kick off the 2025 football season. They are once again a top five team in the Class 3A preseason rankings and they're also the favorites to capture another district championship this season. Five starters return for an offense that averaged 36 points per game in 2024. All eyes will be on the backfield as they have to find a new quarterback and replace a 2,000+ yard running back, which will obviously not be an easy task. But whoever wins the quarterback job is going to have multiple weapons in the passing game. The Chargers will have one of the best wide receiver units in Class 3A and that extends into the tight end position. Defensively, that's where Heritage Hall has the majority of their experience returning from last season. Seven starters return on that side of the ball and we could see this unit improve greatly from last season to what they become this year. The non-district schedule will once again be a challenging one, highlighted by coming to Tulsa in week one to face defending champion Lincoln Christian. But those challenges in the non-district slate should prepare the Chargers for district play. And let's face it, at this point, the target on Heritage Hall's back when it comes to district play is as big as it's ever been before. The Chargers haven't lost a district game since October of 2013. They don't expect to start now. But the ultimate goal isn't another district title. It's to contend for and win their ninth state championship in program history.

Junior tight end [player_tooltip player_id='473993' first='Canon' last='Bronson'] is a Heritage Hall prospect that we wrote about a handful of times this offseason as a player to watch in 2025 with his new position. At the start of the 2024 season, Bronson was splitting time at the quarterback position. Bronson continued to grow and has completely transformed how he looks physically and now he gives the Chargers a major threat in the passing game, just on the other end of it now. Bronson really impressed us in multiple 7v7 tournaments this offseason and then again when the pads came on in the spring. He's incredibly reliable and we think that he's primed to have a breakout moment or two in 2025.

Senior [player_tooltip player_id='1101130' first='Graham' last='Murphy'] is definitely one of the top returning players that we're fired up to see this season. Last year, Murphy led the Chargers in tackles by a wide margin with nearly 150 on the year. Nobody else hit triple digits. He also led the team in tackles for loss. Now, going into his senior season, we're looking forward to seeing how that production continues to expand on Heritage Hall defense that could be really improved in 2025. He's also listed as a running back on the offensive side of the ball and that's certainly an area where the Chargers will need a new name to step up. We could end up seeing Murphy have a breakout season on offense this fall.

When he's healthy, senior standout and Tulsa commit [player_tooltip player_id='587270' first='Jerrod' last='Williams'] is one of the best overall playmakers in the state. He was hit with some adversity in 2024 and had to overcome it to get back on the field. But whether it's as a wide receiver, defensive back or kick return, Williams can have a true impact in all three phases of the game. Offensively, Williams gives the Chargers a true playmaker that is incredibly tough to slow down. Defensively, Williams can play cornerback or play more of a “centerfield” role as a safety. And then he's incredibly dynamic as a kick returner. No matter where Williams is on the field, you have to know where he is at all times.

Last season, Travis was Heritage Hall's breakout star that turned into an All State 1st Team selection. This season, senior [player_tooltip player_id='1683273' first='Rhett' last='Davis'] could be that guy. Davis has the potential to be the ultimate swiss army knife for the Chargers on both sides of the ball. Offensively, he gives the Chargers a skill player with size and power in running situations or when he's lined up at tight end. Defensively, Davis looks like he's just as comfortable on the line of scrimmage or further back at the linebacker position. When we watched Heritage Hall in the spring, Davis was one of the best players on the field. He's another name that we're going to be keeping an eye on this fall.

Senior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1683272' first='Terrance' last='Johnson'] is another Charger that we had the benefit of watching this spring and the opinion of him continued to rise. With Williams on one side and Johnson on the other, it puts a tremendous amount of pressure on the opposing secondary. Johnson has good size and when we watched him this spring, speed was the name of the game. It was very simple for him as he would just blow by a defensive back and by the time he caught the ball in the end zone, he had about five yards of separation. Like we mentioned with Williams, whoever comes out on top and wins the quarterback job is going to have a few weapons to play with at wide receiver.

2025 SCHEDULE

Aug. 29th - AT Clinton
- The annual non-district game with Clinton is back on the schedule after they did not play in 2024. This year, it kicks off the season for the Chargers. Heritage Hall beat Clinton 50-43 in their last meeting in 2023. Overall, they've won nine of the last ten meetings. This is another tough season opener.
Sept. 5th - AT Lincoln Christian
- Heritage Hall makes a rare trip to Tulsa to square off with rival Lincoln Christian. These two teams met twice last season, with the Bulldogs winning each meeting. They've become quite the thorn in Heritage Hall's side and come into this season as the preseason number one team.
Sept. 19th - Millwood
- The non-district slate wraps up with a home game against Millwood. These two teams started playing each other regularly in 2018 and it's been a solid OKC-rivalry. Millwood won that first meeting in 2018 while the Chargers have won the last six, including last year's 28-25 victory.
Sept. 26th - AT North Rock Creek
- The district slate kicks off with another road game for Heritage Hall in week four. They go on the road to face North Rock Creek. They beat the Cougars 35-20 last season and also bounced them out of the playoffs in the 2023 first round. This will be a new-look North Rock Creek squad.
Oct. 3rd - Anadarko
- After three out of four games being on the road to kick off the season, Heritage Hall returns home to face Anadarko in week five. Last season, the Chargers won 45-0. That would be the largest margin of victory for Heritage Hall in 2024. They've won four in a row dating back to 2020.
Oct. 9th - AT Kingfisher
- The second half of the regular season begins with a road game against Kingfisher. And when you look at the 3A preseason rankings, these are the top two teams in this district heading into 2025. Heritage Hall beat the Yellowjackets 46-23 last season and they've won seven straight.
Oct. 17th - Plainview
- The Chargers host Plainview in week seven and they'll be looking for their seventh straight win in the series. These two became district foes in 2022 and it's been a relatively one-sided series, in favor of Heritage Hall. However, last year's meeting was closer with the Chargers prevailing 28-21 in OT.
Oct. 24th - Pauls Valley
- The Chargers will host Pauls Valley in week eight and this is going to be a very different Pauls Valley squad coming to town. The Panthers lost a lot to graduation and have a first year head coach. Last season, this was a high-scoring and competitive game with the Chargers winning 41-36.
Oct. 31st - AT Purcell
- On a Halloween Friday night, Heritage Hall goes on the road to face Purcell in week nine. The Chargers beat the Dragons 56-41 in a very exciting and high-scoring game last season. The previous time these two teams met, Heritage Hall was winning a shutout in the 2019 playoffs.
Nov. 7th - Star Spencer
- The regular season will come to an end in week ten with a home game against Star Spencer. The Bobcats were a new opponent for Heritage Hall after they hadn't played in a little over a decade. The Chargers would roll to a 34-6 victory last season and expect to do the same in 2025.

NOTABLE

Lincoln Christian. The Bulldogs have become more than a thorn in the side of the Chargers over the last six seasons. In those last six seasons, Lincoln Christian has ended Heritage Hall's season in the postseason on five occasions. For head coach Brett Bogert, Lincoln Christian is responsible for the majority of his losses as Heritage Hall's head coach in the last decade. In the past ten seasons, Bogert is 2-6 against Lincoln Christian. Against all other teams in the state? He's an eye-popping 123-4. Think about that number for a moment. It's absolutely staggering. There is the Heritage Hall district winning streak that's still intact. And they simply do not lose games to anyone else in Class 3A, with the exception of Lincoln Christian. Under Bogert, they've lost to Cascia Hall in the 2016 4A quarterfinals, 2A's Millwood in the 2018 season opener, 4A's John Marshall in 2020 non-district play and 4A's Clinton in 2022 non-district play. That's the list. We're guaranteed to see these two clash again once (week one) this season but they're both favorites to win the district championship again and if that happens, we could very well see another meeting in the playoffs, which would be their sixth playoff meeting in the last seven years. And the Chargers are hungrier than ever to come out on top against Lincoln.
