The Edmond Memorial Bulldogs entered the 2024 football season looking to take a massive step forward but nobody (outside of Edmond) could have predicted the year they were about to have. The Bulldogs went 3-7 and missed the playoffs in 2023. But we knew that if the Bulldogs were healthy at the key positions, they could make plenty of noise in 2024 and they certainly did that. Former head coach Justin Merideth was named head coach again in the offseason and he hit the ground running in his second stint with the Bulldogs. They started the year 2-1 in the non-district slate, with the only loss coming to Deer Creek. They were 5-1 heading into week seven, when they lost to top-ranked Owasso at home. But the Bulldogs wouldn't lose again the rest of the way. That included going on the road to Tulsa in week ten and taking down Union 32-29. With the win, they locked up a first round bye and home game in the quarterfinals. In that quarterfinal match-up, they faced off with the other westside darling of 2024 in Norman and beat the Tigers 49-20. They would see defending champion Bixby in the semifinals and lost 29-8 and the season came to an end at 9-3. But there was no doubt that Edmond Memorial was one of, if not the most improved team in the state last season. They went from 3-7 and missing the playoffs to 9-3 and making their first ever semifinal appearance since Edmond added two other high schools.

2025 OUTLOOK

The Bulldogs come into the 2025 football season with high expectations again but there will also be a lot of unproven players that take the field this fall. Only two starters are back on the offensive side of the ball. They'll have to find a replacement for a four-year starter at quarterback, who is now a freshman at Kansas. But they also have to replace basically the entire offensive line and will also have several other new starters at the skill positions. It's not going to be an easy task and the Bulldogs are confident that they'll be able to piece together a lineup that can get close to the production that they had a year ago. But the good news is that they bring back everyone on the defensive side of the ball. And this Bulldog defense was nasty in 2024. They gave up 18 points per game and they'll need to have all that experience and talent back to contend with some of the offenses they are going to face in Class 6A-1. The defense also features multiple players that will end up playing D1 football. In our opinion, it's going to be one of the best defenses in 6A-1 and should get more credit as we head towards the start of the 2025 season. Fortunately for the Bulldogs, the schedule shapes up for them to bring those new starters along to prepare them for the toughest stretch at the end of the year. They won't play arguably their three toughest opponents until the last four weeks of the season. The Bulldogs surprised a lot of people in 2024 and they expect to make more noise in 2025.

Senior [player_tooltip player_id='392138' first='Bradyn' last='McGowen'] is the first of several linebackers on this breakdown that you need to know about. We told you, the Edmond Memorial defense is going to be nasty. McGowen exploded last season, becoming one of the team's leading tacklers on defense. He finished the year with just over 100 tackles on the season and he's looking to bring that same energy and overall production to his senior season. McGowen and the rest of the Bulldog linebackers will benefit from playing behind a strong defensive line but there is no doubt that McGowen has a nose for the football and when you throw on the tape or watch him in person, you see a player all over the field.

Senior defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1699009' first='Bruce' last='Roberts'] is another defensive player to keep an eye on this season. The Bulldogs have a front seven that has to be considered one of the best in Class 6A-1 and it starts with the experience and production they bring back up front. Roberts is a big defensive tackle that can really cause havoc on the line of scrimmage. And it's been a really strong offseason for Roberts. He's torn it up on the camp scene and he's been offered by Army and Air Force. Last season, Roberts finished with nearly 50 tackles and a handful of sacks. But Roberts is that prototypical defensive tackle, who's impact isn't as obvious when just looking at numbers.

We've been saying this for a while now but junior linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='216547' first='Colton' last='McComb'] is one of the best linebackers in the state and he started proving that in 2024. McComb has always impressed us at various camps and 7v7 tournaments and then he hit another gear in 2024. He became one of the top linebackers in Class 6A-1 and college coaches started taking notice. In the last two months, McComb has absolutely blown up, becoming one of the top linebacker prospects in the state with offers from all over the country. He was one of 6A-1's leading tacklers and should be at the top of the list again this fall. And don't overlook the impact McComb can have on offense this season.

Junior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1637567' first='Isaac' last='Woodard'] enjoyed a breakout season in 2024 and we cannot wait to see what he does for an encore this season. Woodard was somewhat of an unknown going into the 2024 season but it didn't take long for him to become one of the better impact wide receivers in the state's 2027 class. Woodard has size, speed and overall playmaking ability that will make him a name to know this season. Whoever ends up winning the QB1 job with the Bulldogs will utilize Woodard quite a bit this season. Coming into this season, Woodard is the unquestioned top target in the Edmond Memorial passing game. We expect his production to reflect that this fall.

Senior [player_tooltip player_id='1045568' first='Nick' last='Booker'] is listed on the roster as a running back and linebacker but we think his experience and overall impact on the game will be felt much more on the offensive side of the ball. Defensively, Booker finished his junior season with nearly 70 tackles but the Bulldogs have a few other linebackers that can get the job done. Booker was incredibly productive on offense last season and Edmond Memorial will need all the impact players they can get there as they work in new starters. Booker accounted for 11 touchdowns on offense last season and we're looking forward to see what kind of production he has this fall on offense and if he can build off a strong 2024 campaign.

2025 SCHEDULE

Aug. 29th - Del City
- For the second straight season, Edmond Memorial will square off with 5A powerhouse Del City in the season opener. Last year, the Bulldogs shut out the Eagles 35-0. That would be the first of three shutouts for this Bulldog defense. Prior to last year, these two hadn't met since 2009.
Sept. 5th - AT Deer Creek
- Edmond Memorial has their first road game not that far from home as they face off with Deer Creek in week one. Last season, they lost to the Antlers 38-24. But just like Edmond Memorial, Deer Creek is going to look very different on offense after having to replace a power 4 quarterback.
Sept. 12th - AT Edmond North
- Edmond Memorial wraps up non-district play with a road game against Edmond North in week two. Last season, they beat the Huskies 22-13 and that was their second win in the last five meetings. This has been an incredibly back and forth series and this will also be an improved Husky team.
Sept. 26th - Norman North
- After a week off, Edmond Memorial opens up district play at home with a match-up against Norman North. Last season, the Bulldogs went on the road and dominated the Timberwolves defensively, winning 21-6. That snapped a three-game losing streak against Norman North.
Oct. 3rd - AT Edmond Santa Fe
- In week five, Edmond Memorial will make the short trip across town to take on Edmond Santa Fe. Last season, they beat the Wolves 35-7 and that was their biggest win over Santa Fe in the last two decades. If they can sweep the other Edmond schools, it'll be their third city title in the last four seasons.
Oct. 10th - Yukon
- The second half of the regular season kicks off with a home game against Yukon. The Bulldogs beat the Millers 38-0 last season and this turned out to be the largest margin of victory for Edmond Memorial in 2024. It was also their third straight win in this series against Yukon.
Oct. 16th - AT Owasso
- On a Fall Break Thursday night, Edmond Memorial hits the road and comes east for the only time in the regular season. The Bulldogs face Owasso in week seven. They lost 46-14 last season and this series has been run by Owasso over the last five years. The Bulldogs try to change that in 2025.
Oct. 24th - AT Westmoore
- It's the final road game of the regular season as the Bulldogs face Westmoore in week eight. Edmond Memorial won 16-0 last season and have won the last two in this series. And it should be mentioned that this game is sandwiched in between the two toughest games on the Edmond Memorial schedule.
Oct. 31st - Broken Arrow
- Edmond Memorial hosts Broken Arrow in week nine and the Tigers could be this year's Edmond Memorial. Going from a losing season to a team contending in 6A-1. The Bulldogs won 61-28 last year but this will be a completely new BA team with a new coaching staff and new players everywhere.
Nov. 6th - Union
- The regular season finale comes against Union in week ten. Last year, the Bulldogs made a statement to the rest of Class 6A-1 when they went on the road and beat the Redhawks in week ten. Now, they look to repeat history against a Union team that will also look different with a new head coach.

Justin Meredith stepped down as head coach at Edmond Memorial following the 2017 season but he didn't stay away for long. Meredith would become an assistant coach under Logan Thomas when he was hired in 2020. And when Thomas stepped down following the 2023 season, Meredith was the obvious choice to replace him and he was named head coach heading into the 2024 football season. In his first stint as head coach, Meredith had a 44-51 record. But there is no doubt that he immediately turned Edmond Memorial around in 2024 and the numbers back it up. In the previous five seasons before 2024, Edmond Memorial was a combined 9-42. They won as many games in 2024 as they had in the previous five seasons combined. But it should be noted that the Bulldogs had plenty of talent last year so it will be interesting to see what they look like with just two starters back on offense. But the Bulldogs also won just their second ever playoff game since the school became Edmond Memorial. It was quite the turnaround and there's no doubt that Meredith came back with a vengeance.
