Throughout the month of July and even into August, we are publishing well over 100 of the most in-depth team previews that you'll find anywhere to get you completely ready for the 2025 football season. This is something that began for us at PRZ-Oklahoma in 2021 and it continues to get bigger and better every single year. We're looking forward to diving deep into the top teams across the state in every class. From defending champions, to the top contenders and plenty of dark horses and other teams to know, we'll have complete coverage every single day. There will be multiple previews dropping every single day! In this post, we take a look at the Community Christian Royals!

Community Christian Royals

Preseason Prep Redzone Ranking: #9 In Class 2A-2

Head Coach: Mat McIntosh - 11th Season - 52-59 Record At Community Christian

2024 RESULTS (5-6 Record - Lost In Class 2A-2 1st Round)

Aug. 29th - Lost To Washington 46-3
Sept. 6th - Lost To Mount St. Mary 29-21
Sept. 13th - Beat Casady 33-12
Sept. 27th - Lost To Beggs 31-21
Oct. 4th - Beat Dibble 14-12
Oct. 11th - Beat Coalgate 53-20
Oct. 17th - Beat Tishomingo 43-14
Oct. 25th - Lost To Holdenville 22-3
Nov. 1st - Beat Comanche 39-21
Nov. 8th - Lost To Davis 45-21
1st Round - Lost To Stroud 45-12

2024 Offensive Scoring Average: 23.9 Points Per Game
2024 Defensive Scoring Average: 27 Points Per Game

The Community Christian Royals came into the 2024 football season looking to take steps in a positive direction after finishing 3-7 and missing out on the playoffs in 2023. The Royals had a strong run from 2020-2022 but then had the setback in 2023. Ultimately, the Royals did take a step in the right direction, making it back to the postseason. But it was a bumpy road to get there. They started 1-3 after the first month and it looked like they would struggle again in 2024. But they responded by winning three straight games before losing to Holdenville in week eight. The Wolverines went on to win the district championship. They bounced back with a win over Comanche before losing to Davis in the final game of the year and of course, Davis would go on to win the 2A-2 state championship. Community Christian finished 5-5 and more importantly 4-3 in district play so they punched their ticket to the playoffs. They met an undefeated district champion in Stroud in the first round and the Tigers prevailed 45-12. The Community Christian season officially came to an end with a 5-6 record but the Royals made it back to the postseason. Now, they will look to take another step in a positive direction this season. Some of the goals would be a winning record, playoffs, contend for the district and they'll do all of this by taking it one game at a time.

2025 OUTLOOK

Community Christian comes into this season as the #9 team in our Class 2A-2 rankings and a lot of it has to do with the experience they have back and the fact that 2A-2 feels incredibly wide open after the top two or three teams. Offensively, the Royals bring back five starters from last year's team. Going into August, they still have a quarterback battle going but whoever ends up winning that job is going to be put into a position to have success this fall. The Royals bring back the majority of their offensive linemen from last year's team. They also have an incredibly deep group at the wide receiver position. The depth they have at receiver is not something that you see very often with a 2A-2 program. Defensively, the Royals bring back six starters from last year's team and the strength of this unit starts with the front seven. They have some absolute monsters coming back that have a ton of experience and they have talented players that missed some or most of last season and are hungry to get back on the field. We think both units will be improved this season. The schedule is a tough one. They kick off the season against the defending 2A-1 champs and they also play the defending 2A-2 champs in district play. But if they can stay in the fight and steal a game here or there, that could really put them in a strong position for playoff seeding. The Royals feel like a playoff team and the ceiling could be higher than we think.

KEY LOSSES TO GRADUATION

AJ Shadid - Offensive Lineman - Signed With Murray State
Grayson McGuire - Running Back/Linebacker
Kendall Davis - Wide Receiver/Defensive Back

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Sophomore standout [player_tooltip player_id='1727336' first='Carson' last='Rehkop'] is a 2028 prospect that Community Christian's coaches are very excited about. Last season, Rehkop broke into the starting lineup and turned into one of the more versatile defensive players on the roster as just a freshman. Rehkop would finish the year with nearly 50 tackles, including seven tackles for loss and four sacks. This season, Community Christian expects him to bring that same intensity to this year's defense but they'll also move him around on offense. It's clear that he's one of Community Christian's best players heading into this season. In addition to defense, he'll play multiple positions on offense this fall.

Senior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1727332' first='Jaden' last='Bowers'] leads a wide receiver group that has the potential to be one of the best and deepest groups in Class 2A-2. Last season, Bowers finished the year with 21 receptions for nearly 300 yards and four touchdowns. But the Royals were a run-first and run-heavy football team last season. They expect to be more balanced and because of the talent at wide receiver, they will certainly be throwing the ball more. Bowers is a player that Community Christian expects to get involved early and often. It wouldn't be surprising to see his production get a major spike this fall but the Royals also have several other targets in the passing game.

Community Christian is very excited about the potential on the offensive and defensive line and that conversation starts right here. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='1727331' first='James' last='Peterson'] returns as one of the best linemen in Class 2A-2. Peterson is a three-year starter and seems to be incredibly impactful on both sides of the line of scrimmage. He's currently being recruited by multiple D1 programs and he also holds an offer from Air Force. Peterson has size and overall athleticism that makes him a solid two-way prospect for the Royals. But when it comes down to it, his value is probably greater on the defensive side of the ball and that's another reason why this front seven could end up being really strong.

Earlier in the preview, we mentioned how Community Christian had some potential monsters returning this season that had to miss time in 2024. Junior [player_tooltip player_id='1727333' first='Quinn' last='Housley'] is one of those players to watch this fall. He suffered a season-ending injury in week two and is ready to come back stronger than ever this fall. He's listed as a wide receiver and linebacker but the Royals are as deep as you can be at wide receiver so the Royals will definitely need him to go to work on defense. It wouldn't be surprising if Housley is in the race to be the team's leading tackler this season. His ceiling as a defensive prospect is incredibly high and there is a lot of promise here.

MORE NAMES TO KNOW

Aaron Horstkoetter - 2028 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back
Austin Eshelman - 2029 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back
Austin McMullan - 2027 Athlete
Cameron Winkle - 2028 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back
Cooper Henley - 2027 Wide Receiver/Defensive Lineman
[player_tooltip player_id='1838364' first='Iain' last='Garmon'] - 2027 Offensive/Defensive Lineman
Jaiden Cox - 2027 Running Back/Linebacker
Kaiden Riley - 2027 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back
Lucas Merlo - 2028 Kicker
Peyton Ables - 2026 Offensive/Defensive Lineman
[player_tooltip player_id='1832125' first='Reef' last='Wilcox'] - 2027 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back

2025 SCHEDULE

Aug. 29th - AT Washington
- For the second straight year, Community Christian will open up their regular season against Washington. The Warriors come into this season with a 44-game winning streak. This is about as good as it gets for a “measuring stick” game. The Royals will know exactly where they are after week zero.
Sept. 5th - Mount St. Mary
- In week one, the Royals have their home opener and the only home game in the first month of the season. They host Mount St. Mary and will be looking to avenge last year's 29-21 loss to the Rockets. Both teams are in familiar territory entering this season as they try to take positive steps in their respective classes.
Sept. 12th - AT Casady
- The non-district slate will wrap up in week two with a short road trip up to face Casady. Last year, the Royals got their first win of the season when they beat the Cyclones 33-12. It snapped a two-game losing streak to Casady. These two have met each year in non-district play since 2022.
Sept. 26th - AT Beggs
- Community Christian opens up district play on the road with a trip to Beggs. There were a few new opponents on the schedule last year for the Royals and Beggs was the first. This was their first meeting and the Demons won 31-21. Beggs will look quite different this year with a first year head coach.
Oct. 3rd - Dibble
- Community Christian plays their first home game in nearly a month when they host Dibble in week five. The Royals won this match-up 14-12 last season. Dibble was a new opponent as these two last met when they were district opponents during the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
Oct. 10th - AT Coalgate
- It's back to the road for the Royals to kick off the second half of the regular season. They travel to face Coalgate in week six and they will be looking for their second straight win. Last year was the first meeting between these two teams and the 53-20 win was the largest margin of victory for the Royals.
Oct. 16th - Tishomingo
- On a Fall Break Thursday night, Community Christian hosts Tishomingo in week seven. The Royals met them for the first time ever last season and they prevailed with a 43-14 victory. This is the final game before the three-game stretch that could make or break their season.
Oct. 24th - AT Holdenville
- That three-game stretch starts with a road game in week eight to face the defending district champs. Holdenville beat Community Christian 22-3 last season, on their way to a district championship. If the Royals want to contend for the district title, this is going to be a must-win.
Oct. 30th - Comanche
- The Royals return home to face Comanche on a Thursday night in week nine. Comanche was a district opponent that the Royals were the most familiar with after playing them during the 2022-2023 rotation. The Royals won 39-21 last season and have won the last three meetings.
Nov. 7th - AT Davis
- The regular season wraps up with a road game against the defending 2A-2 state champions. Davis beat Community Christian 45-21 last season, on their way to capturing the gold ball. The Royals want to climb that mountain this season and a win here would give them as much momentum as you could hope for.

NOTABLE

Head coach Mat McIntosh finished up his tenth season as Community Christian's head coach last year. He became head coach of the Royals in 2015, one season after they officially became members of the OSSAA in 2014. And after the Royals struggled in the first few seasons, he turned them into a consistent playoff team, year after year. The Royals have made the playoffs in six of the last seven seasons. From 2020-2022, they went 26-11, hands down the best stretch of Community Christian football in their short history playing against OSSAA competition. But now, we do have a new landscape in Oklahoma high school football. With Class 2A splitting into two divisions in 2024, it opened the door for more teams to find consistent success and for those consistent playoff teams to go deeper than they ever have before. For Community Christian, it sets up a very interesting possibility. 2020 was their best year in school history. They went 10-3 and made it to the quarterfinal round. They certainly have the potential to be a quarterfinal team this year but they'll be hungry for more.

LAST FIVE SEASONS

2024 - 5-6 - Lost In Class 2A-2 1st Round
2023 - 3-7 - Missed Playoffs
2022 - 7-5 - Lost In Class 2A 2nd Round
2021 - 9-3 - Lost In Class 2A 2nd Round
2020 - 10-3 - Lost In Class 2A Quarterfinals

CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY

1 State Championship

2019 - Beat Weatherford 9-7
