Georgetown football has been in flux at the coaching position the last several years and that has resulted in undesirable results on the field.

The Bulldogs had not won a game since 2020 until breaking through last season with a 3-8 mark and snapping a 30-game losing streak in the process. Jimmy Noonan was head coach in 2022, Bradley Adams was the coach in 2023, and Tommy Adams took over in 2024. Tommy Adams is back and hoping to build on the three wins from last season. One win was a forfeit with two on the field wins.

There were good things that happened in the offseason and it feels like there's players to start building around.

“We're the underdogs, without question,” first-year assistant coach Cameron Maguire said. “We have that mentality right now. We're looking to make some good plays and get games into the fourth quarter and pull off some wins. We've worked extremely hard in the weight room, and I can see the hunger there. We hope to be in the conversation to make the playoffs this year.”

The players have parlayed the new coaching staff into a new outlook for the 2025 season.

“We're all new in 2025,” senior running back D'ante Washington said at Media Day in mid-June. “We have new coaches and a new weight room. That's brought better mental toughness and more togetherness than we had last season.”

The Bulldogs will still see a vast majority of their players contributing on both sides of the ball, but senior defensive end/running back [player_tooltip player_id='1738860' first='Antonio' last='Deas'] believes that can be a good thing.

“We're conditioned to play the entire game,” Deas said. “We grew up playing both sides of the football and there's no reason for that to change just because we're on the varsity now.”

STARS SET TO SHINE

Tevies Burroughs OL, 2026 – Burroughs is 6-foot-2, 215 pounds with an 80.5-inch wingspan. He might not be the biggest offensive lineman, but he makes up for it with technique and effort. He plays hard and has been in the program for three years. This will be his final opportunity to impress and he seems poised for the challenge.

[player_tooltip player_id='1738860' first='Antonio' last='Deas'] DE/RB 2026 – Deas (pictured) is another senior that is going to log time on both sides of the ball. He played all over last season – lining up at defensive end, offensive line and running back. He's expected to be a huge contributor at the running back spot in 2025. He runs hard and behind his pads, which makes it difficult to get a clean shot on him.

Saivion McNeil LB 2026 – McNeil is a burst of energy that reads and reacts to plays quickly. He has a fast first step and gets to his desired spot usually before the ball-carrier arrives. He's also physical and delivers the big blow when he can. Because of his speed, he's able to make plays from sideline-to-sideline with ease. He will see time at slot receiver as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='1734397' first='Trenton' last='Parker'] ATH, 2026 – Parker is a threat to go the distance from any spot on the field. He mainly played running back in 2025 but could see time there or at wide receiver this season. Also, don't count him out of playing some defensive back as well. He's got a good frame at 5-foot-11, 172 pounds. His versatility is going to pay off in a revamped offense.

FILM REVIEW

D'ante Washington RB 2026 – Talk about a player that has played a variety of roles – Washington fits the bill. He spent a lot of 2024 on the offensive and defensive line, but the expectation is for him to play running back in 2025. His quickness and burst will be an asset in the backfield, but he still could fill a number of roles this season.

BIGGEST LOSSES

Zach Krause ATH – Krause played wide receiver as a junior and quarterback last season and was an unquestioned leader of the team. He was athletic and made plays with his arm and his feet.

Jamie Branton LB/OT – Branton was a two-way player and made an impact on both sides of the ball. He was a vocal guy and also led by example. Any time you lose one player for two starting positions, it makes an impact on the team.

UP-AND-COMING POTENTIAL

Mike Johnson QB/ATH 2028 – Johnson is going to make the move from junior varsity and likely be the starting quarterback in 2025. He's got a big arm and stands tall in the pocket against pressure. He's a good decision-maker and has a little bit of flair to his game and never believes a play is over.

Keon Blunt OL/DL, 2027 – Blunt is going to be a two-way player, and he has great measurables to boot. He's 6-foot-2, 170 pounds and ran a 4.84 40-yard dash and has a 79-inch wingspan. He is undersized but uses his length and hands well to create advantages on the line of scrimmage.

The interior defensive lineman is a menace coming off the line of scrimmage. He uses power and technique to bull-rush blockers and that gives him a huge advantage in winning one-on-one battles. He also is athletic enough to run down plays that go away from him. He's only going to get better with three years still to play.
