On Saturday, May 10th, 2025 I was welcomed back for the third year in a row to cover Coach Nick Pennisi‘s PSR Big Camp Series hosted at Monroe High School in Monroe, New Jersey. As I have come to expect, this event was packed with participation, loaded with talent, and ran extremely well.

Different than other events, Pennisi opted to have three different check-in times, based on position groupings. This afforded me the opportunity to get a closer look at many of the prospects in attendance. Below are just some of my notes on the position group mentioned in this article's title.

As many who follow the high school football scene in New Jersey would, I expect quality, disciplined prospects when I see their high school listed as Rumson-Fair Haven. [player_tooltip player_id='1283780' first='Carmine' last='Florio'] is no exception to this standard. I thought that Florio maintained outstanding eye discipline when square dancing during cat & mouse drills, neither ever being fake out nor out of position... I had to look this one up, but EEAC stands for Executive Education Academy Charter - a high school out of Pennsylvania where rising senior Yaseen Mirza attends. Although l thought that he was flat-footed at times, this did little to prevent Mirza from tracking front-side, near-side hips extremely well. Mirza profiles as an outstanding run stopper.

As the old adage says, sometimes you would rather be lucky than good. Albeit was just one snap I caught of him, Donovan Catholic's [player_tooltip player_id='1691985' first='Henry' last='Byrnes'] came up with perhaps the luckiest play of the day for a linebacker. As the 2027 graduate was lined up opposite his running back, the 6'2" 185lb prospect was able to run with him well. It seems however, that Byrnes might have been too mentally occupied with running with that running back, as he never turned his head, matching that of the running back, to play the ball. Somehow, Byrnes managed to pick that one off... Hometown product Monroe High School's [player_tooltip player_id='1691986' first='Ryan' last='Stanislawczyk'] walked the walk and talked the talk. One of the more physical presences at linebacker, Stanislawczyk forced the issue with intermediate routes ran by opposing running backs as he interrupted their timing and routes in the process. For whatever reason I got the sense that Stanislawczyk did not fully trust his speed. This ought to be something to mindful of this coming season.

Shocked as I am writing this, it is hard to believe that bib #183 just wrapped his freshman school year. At 6'2" 205lbs, you will be hard to find a more menacing presence at linebacker than St. Augustine Prep's [player_tooltip player_id='1279669' first='Akeem' last='Jones Jr.'] Jones had a really well-built, long frame and is able to crossover run well. I noticed that Jones prefers to give a cushion than press people at this stage in his career, indicating that he may not yet trust his feet. Moreover, his hips are acceptable for a prospect at his age, but he must work, maintain, and operate at a lower pad level... Speaking of pad level, St. Joseph's in Metuchen returns [player_tooltip player_id='910090' first='Jaylen' last='Frias'] for his upcoming junior campaign. For this campaign to be as fruitful as he wishes, Frias must keep a low pad level. He showed flashes of this at camp, but it tended to waiver some.
