Last Wednesday, on a rainy afternoon in St. Paul, the prestigious Macalester College put on their High Academic Camp right on the turf of Macalester Stadium, deep in the heart of the beautiful Mac-Groveland neighborhood in St. Paul. High Academic Camps are a much more common occurrence in the Northeast part of the country, where the density of old, tradition-rich, and prestigious colleges and universities are high, so it's nice to see the MIAC contender Macalester College bringing a bit of variety and flavor to the Upper Midwest's Summer Camp Circuit. A rare and valuable opportunity for kids to compete in front of some of the best schools in America, the inaugural Macalester College High Academic Camp brought nearly 100 prospects from 11 different states to the 651 for a day of on-campus touring, academic and athletic informational sessions at MAC, and of course, on-field drills and competition, led by the Scots' coaching staff and joined by the likes of Cornell University, Pomona, Carleton, St. Olaf, and Oberlin. Check out the event's Top Performers below!

[player_tooltip player_id='1602687' first='Aiden' last='Zapzalka'] (Minnetonka, MN) 2026. OL. 5'11, 273 lbs.

The most impressive prospect at the Macalester College High Academic Showcase, whoever lands Minnetonka offensive center Aiden Zapzalka is going to get a heckuva land on the recruiting trail. At 273 lbs., Zapzalka was extremely fluid throughout drill work and indy, with quick nimble feet, bendy hips, and overall great change of direction ability at his size. First-in-line type player, extremely coachable, and can flip a switch and turn the physicality up a couple notches when necessary. Zapzalka was the stalwart centerpiece of the Minnetonka Skippers road-grading offensive line in 2024, arguably the best in the state during the year, and to see his athleticism and ability in person makes us even more bullish on the rising senior. Brother plays at MAC and it sounds like the Minnetonka product is prioritizing academics in his recruitment, so keep an on the DIIIs for this standout student-athlete.

Jack Larsen (River Falls, WI) 2026. DL. 6'2.5", 230.

One of the biggest and baddest players in attendance at the inaugural Macalester College High-Academic Prospect Camp, defensive linemen Jack Larsen passed the eye test and had a good day of testing, and his drill work stood out amongst his peers thanks to his overall mobility and athleticism. Change of direction ability showed up during 1v1s as well, as did his heavy hands and overall technique. Larsen rose his stock on the recruiting trail in St. Paul, that's forsure.

Joshua Miller (Dowling Catholic, IA) 2026. 6'1+, 275 lbs.

Coming out of a powerhouse Iowa program in Dowling Catholic, Miller was one of my favorite linemen in attendance at the inaugural Macalester College High-Academic Prospect Camp, proving himself to be one of the top performers and athletes in every phase of the on-field work. Miller moves well and changes direction smoothly at 275 lbs., and given the high level of coaching and competition he sees with Dowling Catholic, I really like how he projects to the interior OL at the college level, especially DIII.

Chase Low (Wayzata, MN) DB. 5'11.5", 183 lbs.

Wayzata sent a very strong contingent of athletes to the inaugural Macalester College High-Academic Prospect Camp, and Low may have been my favorite of the bunch, although it was hard to choose amongst the group of top performers. After noticing his acceleration and hustle during drill work, the DB opened skelly - in which the skill athletes wore shells - with a booming, as well as legal, hit on a WR over the middle, creating an electric PBU that got an ex-safety like myself very excited. Now that I was locked in and excited about the rising senior DB, Low showed that he was fast out of his breaks, physical at the catch point and top of the route, and is able to read & react to WRs in both man and zone coverage to disrupt timing and passing attempts all around the field. Highlighted his day on a beautiful INT on a well-read corner route to finish a strong showing in St. Paul. Great job, Chase.

[player_tooltip player_id='592135' first='Will' last='Raymond'] (Maple Grove, MN) LB. 2026. 5'11.5", 206 lbs.

One of the biggest stock risers of the inaugural Macalester College High-Academic Prospect Camp, as well as a top performer, defending 6A state champion Maple Grove is obviously full of depth, and LB [player_tooltip player_id='592135' first='Will' last='Raymond'] was stuck behind three D1 LBs in 2024, including 2025 grad Bo Draheim, who is going to high-academic Cornell University to play his college football. Cornell was at the Macalester High-Academic Camp, Raymond tested off the charts in St. Paul in front of Draheim's future coaches, including but not limited to a 30.5" vert and 9'1 broad jump, and he displayed a good built that passed the eye test amongst his peers at Macalester. Good showing during competition and brings an overall balanced rsume to the table as a prospect. Could be a breakout year for the senior Crimson 'backer!

[player_tooltip player_id='1683376' first='Carson' last='Stay'] (Zimmerman, MN) 2028. OL. 6'2.5", 240 lbs.

An up-and-coming OL prospect that we at PRzMN are excited about in the 2028 class, Zimmerman's [player_tooltip player_id='1683376' first='Carson' last='Stay'] has put in some serious work on the summer camp grind, and he was a Top Performer out of a good OL group that congregated at the inaugural Macalester College High-Academic Prospect Camp, testing well, showing off mobility, smooth COD ability, and a general play style and athleticism far above that of your typical rising sophomore OL. Athleticism, technique, physicality, Stay is ready to make some noise on the varsity scene these next three years.

[player_tooltip player_id='1648464' first='Johnny' last='Evans'] (Wayzata, MN) 2026. WR. 5'9, 169 lbs.

Another Top Performer coming out of Minnesota 6A heavyweight Wayzata, Evans had a stock-rising performance at the inaugural Macalester College High-Academic Prospect Camp, balling out in every phase of the camp, including a 9'2 broad jump and 29.7" vertical to spotlight some explosiveness in his game. Evans, who played both WR and DB during competition, was a strong route runner and effective & comfortable in space. He cut his routes off well, could beat DBs vertically, and showed off body control and soft hands when playing the ball in the air, extending his arms and plucking the ball out of the air and through contested DB play. Evans also was effective after the catch, breaking a DBs ankles in space during drill work, and he tracked the hip well when pursuing ball carriers as a DB. Evans had a nasty back-shoulder catch during 1v1s to highlight appearance at MAC.

[player_tooltip player_id='1516213' first='Malik' last='Quadri'] (Apple Valley, MN) 2026. DL. 6'0.5", 245 lbs.

Quadri is having a great offseason, making use of both DL-specific events and training as well as prospect camps, and through the handful of in-person visibility points we have on the Apple Valley product, he always turns it up during competition. Quadri had the coaches at the inaugural Macalester College High-Academic Prospect Camp buzzing, in large part to due to a power ball toss that seemed to go as far as a regular pigskin toss, and his ability to unlock his hips, as well as overall pass rushing skillset made him a win machine during 1v1s as well. Someone earned himself some recruiting looks in St. Paul last week!

Cash Newberry (Glendale, MO) 2026. QB. 6'1, 176 lbs.

I liked all three quarterbacks who descended on the inaugural Macalester College High-Academic Prospect Camp last week in St. Paul, and Newberry may have been the Big Dog of the talented QB group. With a tight, compact, quick release, consistent footwork and mechanics, and accuracy to all three levels of the field, Newberry's touch was especially impressive, as he threw a couple beautiful fades and corners during skelly and 1v1 competition. Good size, good athlete, and has a 5.0 weighted GPA as well. Get at him!

[player_tooltip player_id='923855' first='Kyler' last='Thom'] (Minneapolis Southwest, MN) 2026. QB. 5'9.5. 159 lbs.

Another exciting talent out and third of the impressive QB group to make the inaugural Macalester College High-Academic Prospect Camp, gunslinger Thom is a name we're well familiar with at PRzMN, as he attends my alma mater Southwest High School and is going into his third year as the strarter for the Lakers, a 5A team in Minneapolis. That amount of reps is always a plus in QB recruiting, and Thom has a good arm as well, throwing the best deep balls in attendance and really stretching the field vertically, to the stress of the competing DBs in St. Paul. Thom's timing was consistently on the money, and he threw a couple beautiful back-shoulder fades to highlight his performance at Macalester College. Good resume for a DIII suitor representing the 612.

Lucas Kaplan (Ardsley, NY) 2026. 5'8, 177 lbs.

A good athlete who had a couple of the college coaches in attendance excited, Kaplan was the third of the talented QB trio to make the inaugural Macalester College High-Academic Prospect Camp, New York native Lucas Kaplan had a strong arm, especially for his size, with consistent zip on his underneath throws, and he was able to fit the ball into some of the tightest windows presented at the 1v1 session in St. Paul. Kaplan also threw a couple gorgeous deep balls during 1v1s, dropping the ball right in the outstretched bread-basket of the WR and only where his wideout could get it. Would love to see this kid on a MIAC roster in a year!

Honorable Mentions

Henry Ruf (Regis Jesuit, CO) 2026. RB/LB. 5'9, 200 lbs.

A bowling ball of a rising senior LB, Ruf is a good DIII prospect, with a balanced skillset that includes solid testing numbers, and his effort was up there with anyone in attendance rep to rep. Ruf also paired it with visible acceleration and good aggression and physicality during drill work and 1v1 competition. His play speed showed up all over the gridiron, and he proved himself to be a tough kid, reeling in a big catch through contact to the inspiration of his group mates. Good showing from the Colorado prospect!

[player_tooltip player_id='1476066' first='Tristan' last='Harris'] (Blaine, MN) 2026. ATH. 6', 214 lbs.

One of the most versatile 2026s in the Great State of Minnesota, Blaine Bengal [player_tooltip player_id='1476066' first='Tristan' last='Harris'] was once again playing a new position when seeing him at the inaugural Macalester College High-Academic Prospect Camp, taking most of his on-field reps at TE and RB to strengthen his profile as an overall football player. The speed was evident for his size, and he was sure-handed and had a little bit of juice in the open field when working against LBs in coverage and after the catch. Big School Minnesota experience, tons of positive in-person live evaluations, and good size behind him as well.

Ryan Fresquez (Orchard Lake-St. Mary's Prep, MI) 2026. LB. 5'8, 209 lbs.

Go-hard rising senior out of a talent-factory in the Mitten, Frequez's burst and twitchiness stood out during both drill work and competition, and he's a good athlete who popped off a 30" vertical to add to his recruiting resume. 4.0 GPA too!

Kayden Maverden (Wausau East, WI) 2026. WR. 6', 166 lbs.

Good showing from the Badger State wideout, who tested in the top tier of the inaugural Macalester College High-Academic Prospect Camp, including but not limited to a 9'6 broad (best at the camp) and a 29" vert. Maverden translated the explosiveness to 1v1 competition, including half-field skelly, proving himself to be the biggest deep threat in attendance and consistently winning vertically against competing DBs. His length, athleticism, and strong performance during 1v1 competition - when the lights were the brightest - make me bullish on Maverden's projection into the college level, wherever he lands.

Raymond Kasal (St. Paul Johnson, MN) 2028. OL. 6'3.5", 271 lbs.

A hulking rising sophomore offensive linemen and one of the biggest players in attendance at the inaugural Macalester College High-Academic Prospect Camp, Kasal has a ways to go development-wise, but he's a big, strong kid with some pop in his hands who is doing a good job of sharpening his skills on the summer camp trail in 2025.

Jack Law (Iowa City West, IA) 2026. LB. 6'.5, 196 lbs.

Popped off a 33" vert and 8'9 broad and put them, as well as his good overall size and frame, to good use during 1v1s. Throwing his weight around and staying with RBs and slot receivers in coverage well. Great frame to add weight in a college strength & conditioning program, comes out of a loaded Iowa City West program, and has the size/athleticism to play earlier than his peers, especially at the DIII level.

[player_tooltip player_id='1395226' first='Oliver' last='Kuhn'] (Breck, MN) 2026. WR/DB. 5'11, 201 lbs.

A big-bodied and versatile skill player out of the Minnesota private school ranks, Kuhn - who is fresh off a standout performance at this past spring's PrepRedzoneMN Combine Series stop in Plymouth, had another positive in-person visibility point, this time at wide receiver. Kuhn is dynamic at his size, broke some ankles at the LOS and after the catch, displayed a big catch radius, and made a couple eye-catching snags in traffic. Really exciting high-academic prospect.

[player_tooltip player_id='1695550' first='Griffin' last='Prevost'] (Breck, MN) 2028. 5'8.5", 168 lbs.

Strong athlete for his age who popped off a 26" vert and 8'3 broad with three full seasons of high school football left in front of him, Prevost caught my eye with a tough, high-flying catch that saw him sacrifice his body to make a full-outstretched diving catch in explosive fashion. Toughness, ball tracking ability, strong hands, and deep speed were all on display from the exciting freshman out of Breck.

Caleb Kukuroboman (Cretin-Derham Hall, MN) 2026. WR. 5'9.5", 182 lbs.

New name to the PrepRedzoneMN radar who popped off a 27" vertical and 8'5 broad jump at the inaugural Macalester College High-Academic Prospect Camp, Kukuroboman proved himself to be a strong route runner who created consistent separation and earned some strong wins during 1v1s. DIIIs get on notice!

[player_tooltip player_id='1694140' first='Gage' last='Halvorson'] (Eagan, MN) 2027. RB/DB. 5'11.5", 175 lbs.

One of the biggest additions to the recently-updated PrepRedzoneMN 2027 rankings, Eagan High School's [player_tooltip player_id='1694140' first='Gage' last='Halvorson'] is poised for a breakout season with the 6A Wildcats, in large part to the verified athleticism he's shown on multiple stops on the summer camp circuit. Halvorson added a 29" vert and 8'8 broad to his growing recruiting resume in the PRZMN database, and he showed some of the quickest cuts and fastest breaks in attendance, as well as closing speed that really caught my eye during competition, where I believe he played multiple positions. Get to know the name now!

[player_tooltip player_id='1120550' first='Jordan' last='Brouwers'] (NRHEG, MN) 2026. DL. 5'9, 205 lbs.

Brouwers popped off an exciting spin move for a good 1v1 win during competition. Good name out of the Minnesota small school ranks for local DIIIs to know in the region. 3.74 GPA too!

[player_tooltip player_id='1262647' first='Ryan' last='Layeux'] (Eastview, MN) 2026. DL. 5'11, 259 lbs.

Another offseason stop, another write up-worthy performance for Eastview's stock rising DL [player_tooltip player_id='1262647' first='Ryan' last='Layeux']. Bringing a 3.80 GPA to the table while fitting in well at the inaugural Macalester College High-Academic Prospect Camp in both academic acumen and athletic ability. Layeux was one of the most effective DL during 1v1 competition, using his strength at the point of attack, pad level, and consistent and effective ability to play an opponents hands led to one of the biggest win totals of the 1v1 session. Layeux is going to have a big senior year!
