Ryan Layeux
About Ryan
Expert Analysis
Brian Jerzak | Prep Redzone Scout
Layeux plays the edge well for the Lightning. He holds the edge and uses his hands well. His hands enable him to get off blocks effectively, allowing him to close down the off-tackle gap. Not just a run defender, Layeux has a great swim move – making him effective coming off the edge in the passing game. He has good power attacking the passer as well and adds solid speed on the defensive line. He can play in a three-point and two-point stance.

Read EvaluationHayden Lindquist | Prep Redzone Scout
A returning starter from the Lightning’s defensive trenches, Layeux totaled 20 tackles, 1.0 sacks, and a fumble recovery in just eight games. Primarily a defensive end, Layeux is a tenacious force on the edge who does a stellar job of plugging up run lanes. He boasts a quick first step off of the LOS and a FILTHY swim move when pass-rushing. Time and time again, he proves difficult to move out of the neutral zone and is both plenty capable of stopping the run and the pass. Layeux should bring a valuable veteran presence to the defensive line next season, and he’d be a great pickup for MIAC and WIAC schools.
