We're approaching the end of one of our bigger rankings updates in the life cycle of Prep Redzone. As we wind down with the 2028 class, we're looking at a strong defensive back class.

Here, I'm breaking down five stock-risers at the defensive back position, including four guys who moved from the watchlist into the rankings. Which guys moved up enough in the rankings to be stock-risers?

Dobson moved to the rankings from the watchlist as soon as I saw his full highlight tape. I'm glad I was able to see his tape early enough to get out ahead of the offers, as Wake Forest recently stepped in to offer the varsity starter with the ability to play both safety and corner. He's physical, and I think he may have the hips and footwork to stick outside at corner long-term. Either way, he's a high-upside, talented rising sophomore.

Walker was actually listed as an athlete in our initial 2028 rankings, but we like his potential as a box safety too much to not move him to defensive back in our system. After starting on junior varsity last year, Walker moved up to varsity midseason and played extensively during West Charlotte's title run. He's physical, but still has room to grow. The early returns are excellent and we're excited to see how he develops.

Holloway has well above-average closing and recovery speed, something that allows him to be more aggressive early in routes. Like all Hough corners, he's well=trained, and has a technical ability ahead of most freshman. If Holloway can grow a bit more, he has really high potential, a guy who could move up in our rankings over the years.

Despite playing at a lighter weight than many of his peers, Dines was physical on the outside in the running game, a trait that allowed him to contribute as a box safety as well as a corner. His future is likely as a boundary corner, though he could probably flex down into the slot as well, thanks to impressive change-of-direction. Dines entered our rankings after a film review of our former watchlist defensive backs.

Jones has a frame that can hold weight and he may grow into a linebacker later in his career. For now, I really like him as a safety, a guy who can play in the box or back in center field in single-high looks. He's a raw, moldable defender with plus athletic traits and a willingness to hit both receivers and running backs.
