Four area high schools from northern West Virginia and Pittsburgh, PA, participated in the 3rd Annual Spring Showcase at the Highlands Sports Complex on Tuesday evening. Host school Linsly welcomed Weir, University, and Westinghouse (PA) to join them in front of college coaches for a spring evaluation, with many prospects standing out. Here are prospects from Weir High in attendance who caught our eye at the Spring Showcase.

The Weir Red Riders have an opening at quarterback this season, and 2028 ATH [player_tooltip player_id='1624447' first='Ryant' last='Lyons'] looks primed to step in. We thought of Lyons as more of a DB prospect before the camp after seeing action their last season as a freshman, but he showed upside as a passer during Tuesday's Spring Showcase. He's a good athlete with length and threw some good balls at the camp. Lyons should settle in nicely as a young quarterback in year one of the Quincy Wilson era with dual-threat capabilities to build their offense around.

2027 Weir EDGE/RB [player_tooltip player_id='1657565' first='Connor' last='Lancaster'] showed off his versatility at the Spring Showcase. We got to see him work out as a defensive lineman at our recent Combine Series camp, but he elected to showcase his ability as a skill player this time around. Lancaster has good size for a power back on offense who can be utilized in short-yardage situations and as a blocker. He proved he can run routes and catch the ball out of the backfield when going through drills on Tuesday and should be a valuable asset to the team on both sides of the ball this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1674255' first='Andrew' last='Caprarese'] caught my eye at Tuesday's Spring Showcase as a two-way lineman with potential. He'll be a key piece on their offensive line this season and can give good snaps on defense as well. Caprarese will benefit from added size over the next two years, but he had some good reps during 1-on-1s as a young, undersized lineman. He has the physicality and toughness to develop into one of their top lineman by his senior year and will begin that process as a junior this fall.

2027 Weir RB/DB [player_tooltip player_id='1674257' first='Tyrek' last='Petteway'] looked like he had the potential to develop into one of the Red Riders' top playmakers over the next two years. After seeing him live at the Spring Showcase, Petteway has an athletic build that he can keep adding to, and he looked fluid when running routes and moving around. There are still steps for him to take to reach his full potential, but Petteway is well on his way to reaching it. He should provide a spark on the varsity team this season as a junior, as they look for more out of their running game in 2025.

Weir has some talent in their 2028 class with WR/DB [player_tooltip player_id='1674258' first='Elijah' last='McShan'] being the next young Red Rider to keep tabs on over the coming years. He's on the smaller side right now, but has athletic traits to build around as he develops as a future playermaker in the slot. McShan saw varsity action as a freshman defensive back on defense last season, as the Red Riders had a youth movement after their playoff semifinal team in 2023 had mostly graduated. He looked quick and fast when running routes and appears to have the tools to be dynamic in time.

Weir has some young talent coming up through their program that will be vastly different players by the time they graduate. That continues with 2028 OL/DL [player_tooltip player_id='1674259' first='Chandon' last='Slusarek'], who saw varsity action as a freshman last season and will be another key piece to build their offensive line around for multiple years. Slusarek took some lumps during the Spring Showcase in 1-on-1s with some talented linemen in attendance, but you could see his potential and upside once he grows some more, both physically and developmentally.

A young lineman with great early size to keep tabs on over the next three years is 2028 Weir OL [player_tooltip player_id='1674260' first='Garrett' last='Yeager']. Yeager has size that you can't teach, being listed at 6'3 265 and appearing even larger than that in person. He'll need to focus on his overall athleticism and footwork moving forward to reach his full potential, which is expected of young linemen. Yeager has the size and potential to reach said potential if he continues to put in the work by his senior year.
