High schools around Louisiana wrapped up their weeks of spring football practice this month with scrimmages that provided a pre-summer glimpse of their early progress toward the upcoming season.

Holy Cross and John F. Kennedy, neighboring schools separated by less than a mile, met at City Park's Pan American Stadium for their May litmus test.

Prep Redzone Louisiana was able to catch a half-dozen of those matchups during the span of eight days, including the Tigers' and Cougars' showdown.

Here's a look at some of the top eye-catchers from the matchup.

[player_tooltip player_id='1757631' first='Anthony' last='Augustin'] — 5-11, 160 WR — John F. Kennedy (2026)

and Brandon Boles — WR — John F. Kennedy (2028)

No matter which quarterback was at the helm during the course of the evening, the Cougars didn't hesitate to take shots in the passing game. The youngster Boles was a tall, long target — with good size and reliable hands — who had a particularly active stretch as a go-to target around the chains and along the sideline. Augustin meanwhile just getting back to full focus on football after a run to outdoor track and field state championships showcased not only his speed, but his ability to go up and make leaping, body-control catches downfield.

[player_tooltip player_id='1239776' first='Dario' last='Carey Jr.'] — 6-0 WR/LB — Holy Cross (2026)

The versatile athlete had hit the Prep Redzone Louisiana radar as a wide receiver, but provided one of his biggest highlights of the scrimmage on the defensive side of the ball. Carey showed great anticipation and ball skills from his outside linebacker spot as he jumped a route, cleanly snatched the interception in stride on his way to the end zone.

[player_tooltip player_id='740985' first='Jokoby' last='Farria'] — 6-2, 190 QB — Holy Cross (2026)

The Tigers' new starting quarterback was an intriguing young player at the position early in his career at St. Augustine and, after patiently developing behind the scenes during the past couple years, looks poised for his breakout varsity opportunity this fall. Farria has good size and athleticism for the next level, which he showcased as he extended plays, worked away from pressure and made throws on the run.

[player_tooltip player_id='463125' first='Savoy' last='Guidry'] — 6-0, 180 DB — Holy Cross (2027)

Guidry has been on the Prep Redzone Louisiana radar from the beginning of high school with his long frame, instincts and ball skills on the 7-on-7 circuit. And while he's never shied away from contact, he's continued to become a more effective tackler and well-rounded corner as fills out and gets stronger. Guidry showed both his ability to blanket receivers downfield in coverage and to break and securely wrap up on plays underneath.

[player_tooltip player_id='1752147' first='Sebastian' last='Perez'] — 6-3, 235 EDGE/DL — Holy Cross (2026)

The defenses led the way on both sides of the scrimmage, both starting with effective pressure up front. For the Tigers, the rising senior defensive end was the biggest eye-catcher. Perez is a tall, strongly built athlete off the edge who was tenacious working through blocks and getting into the backfield.

[player_tooltip player_id='934585' first='Grayson' last='Powell'] — 6-2, 230 EDGE — John F. Kennedy (2027)

The rising junior edge rusher has been on the Prep Redzone Louisiana radar from the initial watch list for the 2027 class entering freshman year and has continued to develop physically into a taller, more well-conditioned athlete who was able to spearhead the Cougars' pressure with a handful of plays behind the line.

[player_tooltip player_id='920695' first='Ke'Rynn' last='Smith'] — 5-9, 190 RB — Holy Cross (2026)

The highest-ranked prospect in the scrimmage is taking on a bigger leadership role this year with notable graduations not only of a pair of 2025 running backs, but veterans all over the offense. Smith popped a couple longer runs where he was able to show off some of his track speed, but also ran strong through contact against a stout John F. Kennedy defensive group.
