Elite 2027 Kansas 8-Man Prospects

I have been showcasing 8-Man prospects throughout the State of Kansas a lot recently and this write-up will be much the same. I'll actually have one of the elite 6-Man prospects in the state in the update as well. These five prospects are some of the very best small class performers the state has to offer regardless of class.   I'm trying my best to showcase the kids and their programs and here are five 2027 prospects hailing from the Northwest Kansas, the Northern Plains, the Mid-Continent, the Southern Plains-Iroquois and from the Western Kansas Liberty Leagues. Be on the look-out throughout the off-season and summer for these kids as they prepare for this upcoming football season. The 6-Man superstar comes from very good stock, as his father Derek Wright (Tri-Plains) is arguably one of the greatest 8-Man players of all-time. The elder Wright held the state 8-Man rushing record for numerous years and went on to play college ball at Garden City CC and then Fort Hays State.   Talking of records, Karsyn broke the Weskan school records in both the 100m and 400m this track season. In the 100m he ran 10.96 and in the 400m he ran a 1A best 50.86.   On the gridiron, the 5-foot-11, 165-pound RB/LB rushed for 1,029 yards and 25 touchdowns on the ground and also had 18 receptions for 374 yards receiving and a additional six scores.   He was a First Team All-State 6-Man as a Flex. Keep a definite eye out on the Coyotes superstar this coming fall.       The 6-foot-3, 170-pound Schroeder is a long lean athlete that has already proven to be a big playmaker for the Longhorns this past season.   Also a stand-out in the high jump, he has a season best of 6'5". He played third in the event as a freshman at the Kansas State High School Track Meet.   On the football field, he had 13 catches for 206 yards receiving and two touchdowns offensively. On the defensive side of the ball he had 47 tackles (36 solo and 11 assisted), 1.0 sacks, 1.0 forced fumbles and lastly also have 3.0 interceptions from his secondary position. Schroeder is a player to keep an eye on these next couple of seasons as his body matures.     Lightning in a bottle best describes the 5-foot-7, 175-pound Pattangall who was one of the top rushers in all of the 8-Man ranks this past season.   In eight games, the Oberlin native rushed for 1,285 yards on 182 carries and 17 touchdowns. On the other side of the ball, he helped lead the Red Devils with 70 tackles, 2.0 fumble recoveries, 1.0 forced fumbles and 1.0 interceptions from his linebacker position.   He was a Honorable Mention All-State 8-Man I at RB and was First Team All-Northwest Kansas League at both RB and LB. Look for Decatur County to build upon their 4-5 record and first round loss to Wichita County in the playoffs.     The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Whelchel is one of the better 8-Man defensive prospects to watch in the coming years. Long and physical, he excels on both side of the ball. He has played all over the field as a tight end, offensive tackles, defensive end and as a linebacker.   He finished this past season with 65 tackles and 11 tackles for loss from his defensive end position. On offense he helped the Grizzlies with four receptions for 46 yards and two touchdowns. Look for those numbers to rise on both sides of the ball for his junior season campaign.   Whelchel was honored as a All-Northern Plains League DE. Colleges will definitely be beating down the door for him as the seasons go on and he further fills out his elite frame.     The 6-foot-0, 200-pound First Team All-Mid Continent League and Honorable Mention All-State 8-Man I performer at LB is looking to take over some of the leadership roles from departing seniors such as [player_tooltip player_id='1112373' first='Duncan' last='Bell'], Samuel Watkins, Easton Nickelson and [player_tooltip player_id='1228531' first='Braydon' last='Scheetz'].   Those seniors were a big reason why the Indians went 13-0 and won the 8-Man I state title this past fall.   The ballhawking Bretz was a tackling machine for the Indians, where he had 106 tackles (35 solo and 71 assisted), 9.0 tackles for loss and 3.0 interceptions.   Also a state participant on the wrestling mat for the Hoxie powerhouse wrestling program. Explosiveness and toughness are his calling cards in both sports.    I really look forward in catching many of these studs this coming season. 8-Man football as a whole should be a lot more open up compared to last year where Hoxie and Axtell were the cream of the crop in their respective divisions. Both lose a good number of players from their title teams but I would never count out either program. Wright looks to help his Weskan ballclub repeat as 6-Man state champs after beating Cunningham in a classic 49-48.   Be on the look-out for more big time studs from across the State of Kansas.
