2028 Prospect Watch: Charlotte Area Athletes

We're well into the offseason, and we're keeping things going ahead of spring workouts and summer practices. Our <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2025/04/deep-dive-johnston-harnett-county-wrs/">county-by-county Deep Dives</a> (Matt Morrow is hitting the Charlotte area while I take the area around RDU) are going strong and we're nearly the end of our prospect watch series. We've looked at almost every freshman in our system, both ranked and unranked.   We're onto the athletes, the final group in the 2028 class. We're starting with all of our ranked and unranked 2028 athletes in the Charlotte area.    We might eventually change Watson's position in our system to linebacker, as that's his best position, but we think he still has some offensive upside as well. He had a huge freshman year on the defensive side of the ball, racking up 73 tackles, including 10 for loss. He's a stat sheet stuffer, forcing two fumbles, recovering another, and picking off a pass as a freshman.     Taylor can absolutely fly, a trait that should allow him to see the field both as a receiver and defensive back. As a freshman, he got the most run on offense, partially due to the depth of Providence's defensive backfield. The special teams upside is obvious here and he could end up as one of the state's best return men by the end of his high school career.     Sutton is first and foremost an instinctual corner, but he's electric in the open field, so he also finds success as a punt returner and offensive gadget guy. He's probably not going to be a guy who gets 50s snaps a game on the offensive side of the ball, but rather a guy with some packages in the playbook designed to get him the ball while moving, whether in motion or down the field. We like what we've seen so far.     Hamilton has good lateral movement skills and should be able to contribute in multiple positions over the next few years, especially if he grows a bit more. We've seen him in camp settings and like the way he moves. He's on our radar as a guy who could potentially impress down the road.     It took Clark two games and four touchdowns receptions to work his way from junior varsity to MIC's varsity team. Once he got to the varsity level though, his best position was corner. He picked off four passes on varsity to go with 40 tackles and five receptions, a true athlete. Perhaps most impressively, he's an excellent tackler, even at his size. We're excited to see him progress.
